Bianco2564 replied to julianl's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Great work, pics and details. Keep it up. -
So tackled a wheel tonight, 15 mins with a hacksaw had the old rim stripped out. Laced it up ok, well 2nd attempt was and now I've got the layout in my head should be easier next time. Will have a go at tensioning the spokes tomorrow and truing it up.

Have you sorted the V5 yet? -
Wheel turned up today. Honda fitted the most excellent grab handles on the Silverwing for transporting such objects.

Smells dodgy, walk away. Report the advert to Autotrader as misleading

Not too much though else the mixture won't ignite. When I put the RGV engine back together, it was an arse to get started, fouling plugs . I knew the oil from the pump was through as I have clear lines on it. Put fresh non pre mix fuel in and it started right away. -
Geezer on a blue and white gixxer in Northampton this morning. Went to work on the scoot, pulled up at a set of lights behind a couple of cars all waiting to turn right. Hear a loud bike behind me and gixxer pulls alongside with his front wheel in front of mine in a passive superiority move, my bikes better than yours kind of thing. To be fair he did look around and nodded. I was then cursing my choice of bike, should have been on the R1. Anyway, lights change, cars move off and............he f'kin stalls it ahahahahahaha. I twist and go and leave him behind. Made my day. .I'm grinning as I write this.

I did exactly this on the R1 yesterday, made a left turn then approaching another left 100yds on frowned at a car driver who pulled out on me. Followed her for a bit and she put her indicators on quickly and then realised I'd left mine on, My fault entirely but have to say the "idiot"light on the dash is out of eye line, blocked out by the helmet chin guard and the light is not that large either. Thinking about putting an additional warning light on top of the dash in my view

Assuming the carb isnt stuck open, could be an uncontrolled air leak from intake or crank seals. If you are not sure if 2 stroke oil is getting through run it on some pre mix. -

32 horse power , f**k me ! it hardly weighs anything . What market was this thing aimed at ? Cheers for the advice , have you owned one of these ? 126kgs dry according to the net. You want to try my RGV, reported to be 62hp and 139kgs -

Nicasil barrel , yes I've heard of this . So what do you reckon the bore is going to look like after ten years in a blackberry bush ? It might be ok, just stuck because of time. As Joe says pour some oil down the plug hole and see if it turns. What might not have survived are the main and big end bearings and the crank seals have hardened. If you are going to keep it, I'd recommend stripping the engine down for an inspection. Do you why it was parked up?Could have engine damage already. -
I would be super wary, I have said about a PayPal scam before. Tell him its cash only or he can have his deposit back.

Great find but I'd make sure you get the V5 or some receipt from the owner before doing too much. If the tank is the same as the 250 they are plastic and swell up with modern unleaded. Barrel is nicasil plated and not cheap to refurbish, check it out carefully if you intend the keep it. -
Finished the exhausts this morning, pleased with how they turned out. Pumped up the decades old tyres, put some fuel in and set off around the block. It ran absolutely fine but gutless although I did keep the revs sympathetically down,it is 50 years old next year. First impressions are the brakes are still crap, I have new front shoes to fit which should cheer it up, clutch didn't slip with its Royal Enfield springs and its got a lovely sound you get with a parallel twin. Can't say I would want to ride far on it, it feels very small and vulnerable. Need to look at the centre stand, its a bit bent and doesn't hold the rear wheel off the ground. Just the wheels to do, might buy a C90 wheel so I can practice on the spoke lacing before I rip these apart. Got a VJMC local ride out in a couple of weeks, hope this will be its debut outing and then the Rugby bike fest in May

A Halifax crashed not far from here in 1944 trying to make an emergency landing at Church Lawford airfield. Sadly they were only about 2 miles from the runway when the plane came down. They hold a remembrance service at the memorial each November. http://aircrewremembered.com/wood-donald-zachary-taylor.html

Looking online it looks like an o ring seal on the needle valve body to carb, are they ok? You could take the carb tops off and remove the slide and diaphragm, hook it back up to the tank and see which carb overflows ? Punctured or porous float? Cracked carb body? Total long shot but modern unleaded not doing something to the 20 year old plastic floats?

Hope it all falls into place. Don't get why the buyer didn't leave a deposit when he viewed it, I always go prepared with the money when looking at cars or bikes.

Generally use Sainsbury,Tesco,Morrison's or Asda which ever I am closest to at the time, car or bikes makes no difference to the running. Very occasionally our local BP but that's only because it nearest to home and the ride is on fumes.

Understand your pain. Our first house was in a narrow street of terraced houses, when we first moved in in 1985 parking wasn't so bad but as time progressed all the old people without cars moved on replaced by younger car driving residents. On a Friday night if I wasn't home by 5pm you couldn't park outside the house and if you did manage to get a space close by didn't want to go out even for 5 mins as you just knew it would be gone. When we decided to move ,high up on the list of must haves was a driveway and garage.Where we are has enough parking on the drive for 4 cars and we live opposite a tee junction so no houses opposite to clog the road. And the garage is in the back garden so I can work on the bikes and cars in total privacy.

Nodded at a guy on a KTM trailie tonight, he just glared back at me, haha.

Got my welded up downpipes back today. Fitted back to the bike and connected up the silencers, all lines up pretty good, just got to decide whether to weld it all together or use clamps. Started it up and the engine sounds like the proverbial sewing machine, even got it warmed up and set the idle. I had refitted the chain earlier in the week, so with #1 grandson sat on the tank stuck it in gear and rode up the drive. First time its moved under its own power in around 19 years.
