  1. Nice project. Removing the carb and cleaning it will be pretty similar to most two strokes of the time. You might be able to remove the carb by undoing the air box and feed valve block. Or you might need to remove the air box first. While you have the carb off, I would check the reeds valves too. And the rubber inlet for cracks. And definitely flush the coolant.

    Flue jab

Thanks I'm getting there now. It just really sucks I've been pretty bad for over two months this year because of having, to make me healthier.

    Flue jab

I've had the flu jab the this last three years. Feel a bit rough the next day usually. In January I had the shingles vaccine. Lost the use of my left arm for a week. Couldn't even raise it at all for three days. The pain was worse than when I broke my arm. I'm not joking. I then had the second shingles vaccine in September. Was a bit rough for three days. But the second day after really struggled to do anything. I had shingles a few years ago, and believe me you don't want it. Unbelievably painful. Nothing like chicken pox. Just had my covid vaccine about 6 weeks ago. Never again. It's taken me five weeks to feel even half way better. I had the highest temperature. Couldn't stand up, and passed out twice. Lost total control of my bodily functions. For over a week. I was so physically exhausted that even a month later I just slept all the time. I know I'm at risk from covid. But if I don't die of it I can't imagine it being any worse, I was that bad.

The DVLA is a mine field you have to wade through it your really build a special. Someone I know built a Suzuki GSX1100 special. Imported Suzuki frame. But everything else was from different Suzuki bikes. Tank, swing arm, engine, forks, and wheels. The DVLA wouldn't let him call it a Suzuki. Even after passing the SVA test.
  6. It is crazy. Someone owing £16,000 to the insurance company. When their bike was only valued at £6,000!
  7. They really have over stretched themselves financially. Now it's time to face the music I'm afraid. It's not a good time either with the loss of sales because of all the reliability issues.
  8. Looks very similar to mine. But mine has a small oblong window along one side. Only about 100mm high. My mate used old railway sleepers to make a base for his shed. At the time it was a good price. Much cheaper than slabs, and lasted well.
  9. I have a 6X8 wooden shed made for motorcycles. It has double opening doors for ease of entry. You can fit two motorcycles in. But not loads of room for storage. I'm not keen on the metal sheds for the reason above. I could never get rid of the condensation. Especially if putting away a bike wet. My shed came with a hasp with a built in anti tamper cut guard. Which forms a hood over the padlock. It saves the lock for getting water inside. And means you can't use bolt cutters on the lock.

    Happy Birthday

Sounds like a great way to spend your birthday. Have a great time.
  11. My mate swears by those winter tyres. Just fitted them to his Vespa. Had them on all his old scooters for winter riding. He does live in Wales though. I couldn't be bothered with changing the tyres every six months. But with a spare set of wheels. It would make sense.
  12. The crazy thing is, where my brother lives in Aldershot. It actually costs more a year a year to collect the parking fee, than it brings in. There was a debate about it a few years ago. Can't have free parking. It will bring too many people in. Surely that's what a ghost town needs? These are the same idiots who closed down half the shopping precinct, to refurbish it. Kicking out loads of big name stores. Who have never returned.
  13. Motocross is fantastic at teaching you bike control. It sounds like a fun day. The last time I rode an MX bike was about twenty years ago. I couldn't believe how knackering it was. In our 20's we would ride all day, no problem.
  14. This was the subject of some debate on a recent video. A few people have found a way to get cheaper insurance. Watch from 14 minutes in. If you go for something retro like an old XT600, DR650 something like that. I bet it would be significantly cheaper.
  15. So cute. But you know it's going to get messy.
  16. The finish wasn't the best, with some fasteners rusting. The fuel injection was one of the main criticisms, being quite abrupt. The handling was never the best either. On later models they shortened the forks and changed the internals to make the front end more predictable. All of the criticism is something which you learn to live with for the sound of That fantastic engine. That said they are a cracking bike. They were very much built to a lower price point. Which made them a bit of a bargain to be honest. Just keep on top of the cleaning if you ride all year round.
  17. Slinky Glide cables are supposed to be good for the price.
  18. The Yamaha 650 Dragstar might be worth a look as well.
  19. I would make sure you have a good connection between the spark plug cap, and wire. You can unscrew the cap and cut back 5mm till you have a good fresh wire. Does the plug fit tightly into the cap? It should be hard to pull out. If you have the style cap which fits the screw on plug top cap. Is it tight?
  20. I would say that's past repairing yourself. Either replace it or get it sorted by a specialist.
  21. Good luck on passing your test. It won't take long to get back into the swing of things.
  22. Morning. It's a chilly one. But the pup needs walking. She love going out early.
  23. I had forgotten about that crazy bunch.

    Modern stuff

A guy at work got a fine for driving off without paying for petrol a couple of years ago. I wouldn't even think it was his fault. He filled the car up, got a coffee and some snacks. Then went to the counter. Said the pump number, and paid by contactless payment. Then received a fine through the post. It turns out he only paid for the coffee, and snacks. Surely more of an error by the cashier. But what can you do?
