Welcome .... Love those old photos, great fan of the classics
  3. He sounds just like my mate, weekend warrior …. So long as the sun is shining, I call his bike a sun flower
  4. Very good .... reminds me of my work mate, a power ranger who always likes to have a dig about me riding a Beamer. So I've turned the tables now, and do the same to him for retreating, come the start of October, to the comfort of his SUV until Spring next year .... My motto is "please don't tell me my bike is dirty, at least I ride it"
  5. Regardless of what the range is I believe you can only fly these in line of sight anyway? I also believe they're restricted to a maximum altitude of 400ft above ground level? There was a post about them over here not that long ago, I was talking to a guy flying one using something called FPV, he was getting some brilliant footage around the old mines. Dji drones aren't particularly cheap .... But what is now.
  6. For some reason I never seem to get letters about re-calls, I tend to find out about them from friends. I was finding that a lot of the re-calls I have had were for computer updates, the dealer told me that BMW are always pushing out new software updates, and they apparently take ages to download and install.
  7. Don't know how much room you have but these are pretty good. I rented something similar years ago, pretty damn secure with the right locks. https://containersuk.co.uk/storage-shipping-containers-for-sale.html
  8. This was forwarded on to me, something I found useful. You may already know about it but I thought I'd share it with the group just in case. It's from the Federation of European Motorcyclists, it lists all the current and past recalls on different makes of bikes and equipment. I had a check through to see if mine was listed. https://www.femamotorcycling.eu/consumer-information/rapid-alert-system-recalls/
  9. Sweet F/A this weekend, still covid positive so feet up, hot whisky and a bit of tv
  10. I agree with you, I've been using them for a couple of years now and nothing but good things to say about them .... The squaring of was the usual run of the mill rumouring you hear flying around, usually from people who have never used them.

    Taxes

I feel sometimes that all I'm doing is working to pay tax in this country! Maybe start taxing people with second and third properties (buy to let). IMHO that drives up the cost of property prices and makes it impossible for local people to get on the property ladder. I also think it's about time they dropped VAT. I'm sure the new PM will find numerous, well thought out and ingenious ways to take more of out hard earned away from us.
  12. Winter rider here as well, Michelin Road 5's for me, when they need changing I'll be going over to the road 6's. I've ridden in some horrendous weather and they have never let me down, excellent all rounders. I have heard though, if you do a lot of motorway riding, they have a tendency to square off, although I have only heard that rumoured.
  13. Couldn't do any worse .... Surely!
  14. A couple of sites that may be of use: https://www.bikerinsure.co.uk/motorcycle-insurance-comparison.html https://www.bikecompare.com Good Luck
  15. As Mike said, insurance is a lottery! I tend to stick with Bennetts, always given me a good deal and always match or give a better deal if I get a more competitive quote elsewhere. It really is hit and miss, all you can do is ring round, try comparison sites, and do things that, in their eyes, lowers the risk. Things like where you leave it, how you secure it, when you use it, all the usual stuff. I feel for you, been there myself and it really can be soul destroying.
  16. I've noticed this as well, the amount of people that come on, ask a question of some kind, get responses but never respond back, then just vanish .... Maybe it's the same sort of mentality that some social media sites have, posts are all about how many likes you get, rather than genuinely wanting to engage with others.

    Over revving.

My Beamer does it when it's cold, As Tiggie alluded to, I think it's just the bike doing what chokes used to do in the cold weather.
  18. Personally I don't think it does? I have Data tag on mine, didn't make any difference to my insurance.
  19. I totally agree with what you say there, we learn something every time we get on the bike, all learning is good learning. One of the best courses I did for building skill and confidence was a slow a riding / manoeuvring course. The bike was never out of 1st gear and it really built confidence for moving the bike around in confined spaces, it's an acquired skill, I've seen loads of riders drop their bikes slow manoeuvring over the years, I even did it myself once. We learn from our mistakes though
  20. I've got the S1000RR (although I am going to be selling it), I do love the bike, but you're right, I'll never in a month of Sundays use all the power it delivers. The sound, torque, look off the machine, and the feel of all that power in the throttle is amazing. However, I've come to look at it as a weekend toy. I don't find it comfortable to ride long distances, can't tour two up, even riding it round town is a pain "it doesn't like to crawl around", and be careful .... it's a true licence loser if you get carried away. Let's be honest though, the bike is designed for racing, and that just isn't me anymore. Great for track days though . Get one of the bikes you're looking at, you'll love them, providing they fit in with the type of future riding you intend to do. I think you've just got to ride one for a while to see the appeal. As for me, I love to tour, camp and ride in a bit of comfort now, so it no longer fits the bill, plus I can no longer afford "or justify to my other half", the luxury of two bikes.
  21. I use Spotify which is great, it also links in nicely through my helmet intercom. There is a free version that you can download, however, you'll only be able to listen to and play your saved music, I have it on my desktop as well and sync it with my phone. There's also monthly subscription plans which I think costs around a tenner. The app is pretty intuitive, and easy to use.
  22. All the best, have good one ....
