Don’t worry about getting your bike wet, as has been said ACF50, good bike cover, if you use it on salted roads rinse it of with cold water or use salt away. I never have any issues ,,,, touch wood, during winter use

Is the ballache of potential thefts worth having a motorcycle ?
manxie49 replied to Drifter86's topic in Motorbike Chat
I hear what you're saying on this one, and I know full well from experience that insurers, annoyingly, do try it on. my insurance policy stipulates the following "your motorcycle must be secured with an anti theft device when left unattended" I did check with them ages ago, they don't mind how it's secured so long as it is. I had an attempted theft of a bike years ago, they snapped the steering lock but couldn't get the shackle lock off. I was left with a bike that I couldn't ride, ignition barrel was knackered and yokes damaged, cost me nearly £400 for repair. Since that I've never been a fan of crappy steering locks, the only time I ever put the steering lock on is if I'm going in to pay for petrol or quickly nipping into a shop for something. The annoying thing is that manufacturers know the steering locks are crap but still haven't addressed the problem. -

We all go through this at some stage or another, I know I do whenever I have to leave my bike somewhere that isn't that favourable .... As has already been said, make it as undesirable to any potential scrote as you can. Invest in a good quality lock and chain Almax is a good one but there are others, secure it to something immovable if possible, lamp post or a ground anchor if you're allowed to fit one. I use a good quality disc lock, Abus, front and rear and last but not least I cover it up. I don't bother with the steering lock, firstly it's crap and secondly, if they break it, which they're likely to do, then find out they can't get your other locks off, you'll be left with a repair bill and probably won't be able to ride the bike till it's fixed anyway. I would also, in your situation, look at maybe renting a lock up or garage. You can consider an alarm, personally I'm not a fan, and also a tracking device, which would hopefully mean your bike will be found, I use Monimoto, cheap and effective, but there are others, such as Biketrak. Consider when you leave it, parking it somewhere well lit, and when out and about, if possible, park it somewhere covered by street cameras. Personally I wouldn't let the fear of having my bike nicked stop me from riding, the pleasure and stress relief I get from motorcycles far outweighs any of these concerns -
Same here, I enjoy the classics, love the sound and smell of Castrol oil

There was a speed limiter fitted to a loan car we got when we took my wife's car in for service .... It failed after four miles!! We were driving along in a 50mph zone and all of a sudden the car slowed down and wouldn't go above 20mph, whenever I put my foot down it just kept flashing up LIM on the display. We rang the garage and they had to come and get the car, fault with the onboard computer apparently. The guy who collected the car said they'd had a few issues like this, I commented at the time how much fun that would be on the M6 on a Friday afternoon.

Not sure if I've put this in the right place?? Our glorious leaders are now reviewing the Manx Grand Prix, looking at future changes and its ongoing sustainability, covid is yet again being used as a convenient reason. If there are any road race fans here, could I ask that you help by completing this online government survey, everyone who puts their opinion forward will help ensure the future of this 1st rate road race that is often a stepping stone for riders to continue into the TT https://us5.list-manage.com/survey?u=d4c3b2aba0787cdb36500861f&id=f2426438ce&attribution=false&fbclid=IwAR2Vkwmv2Wined7lJF2KNpUOl6r-vatxYPI2J3lJb-yMTow0A_4RBY9z7qs

I had one when I lived in Leicester, fitted with a Pantera fairing, good old, reliable work horse for commuting to work and back.

Interesting, I wonder how much extra the tyre would cost as oppose to using something like auto-seal, which isn't that expensive. Never used the stuff but have read some good reports. I still think, if you get a nail in your tyre, on the outer two thirds anyway, that the tyre will need replacing. Nice idea to stop you getting caught out in the middle of nowhere though and having to fanny around with a repair kit and plugs.

Disc lock and a cover should be good enough ..... If they really want the bike they're more likely to pick it up and put it in the back of a van anyway. I usually just use my ABUS alarmed disc lock. If I'm going down the south of England to visit family then I take a chain as well, but unless it's secured to something immovable or another bike then TBH it's probably not gonna stop them nicking it. I think you're reasonably safe in the Shetlands, hope you have a good trip

I hope you have more luck with your new one …. I was on the road for a day and a half and got a nail in the rear tyre, had to shell out for a new one, also struggled trying to get hold of a 34mm socket to undo the axle nut local garage came the the rescue and loaned me one

Looks like a good trip, glad you enjoyed, looking forward to getting up that way myself in September ..... As for the ar*ehole in the van, rest assured, with an attitude like he had, sooner or later someone is gonna give him a right good hiding, richly deserved IMO

Kawasaki Z1100, most unreliable bike I ever had! If it could break on a bike I guarantee it broke on this one .... The last straw before getting rid was the starter motor packing up when I went to the NW200

Happy Belated Birthday Rennie, hope you had a good day

One for S-Westerly Retired sailor puts on his old uniform and goes down to the docks once more for old times sake. He hires a prostitute and takes her up to a room. He's going at it as best he can for a guy his age. The old sailor asks "How am I doing?" The prostitute replies, "Well Sailor you're doing about 3 knots." "3 knots?" he replies, "Whats that supposed to mean?" She says "Your knot hard, you're knot in, and you're knot getting your f**kin money back."

I'm ATGATT all the time, every ride. If people want to ride in shorts and T shirts, like one guy I seen this morning sat astride his gsxr, then it doesn't bother me, it's their decision and it's their skin at the end of the day. I've seen enough accidents though to know that the ones who are lucky enough to be up and walking afterwards are usually those who are wearing the right gear.

Pics will follow in due course .... I've gotta fookin wait for the bike so you can wait for the pics!

OK, a couple of months ago I decided to give up off road riding. I sold my off roaders (one really good one and an old nail of a bike), plus a load of parts for it and my off road gear. Afterwards I said to the wife "the garage looks empty" So I decided to have a look around for a bike I could have a bit of fun on. I have my Tracer, which is my work horse, but I wanted something a bit sportier, something I missed after getting rid of my MT10. After much looking, and much deliberation, I found a 2016 BMW S1000RR and absolutely love it! Took it out on two test rides, read a shit load of online reviews, it's only done just under 6k miles, totally immaculate and the price was right. The ride and handling on this bike is absolutely outstanding. So, I'm now looking forward to Saturday when I pick it up. Got that "I'm getting a new bike" feeling again, yet again I find myself wishing my life away wanting Saturday to be hear quicker.....I'll post pictures when I get it and do a review once I've had it for a few months so I can make the review meaningful.

Guy who lives near me drives an electric car, or EV as he likes to call it. He is the most pompous git I've ever known, he seems to think that come 2030 not just ICE but petrol and diesel is just going to vanish from the face of the earth! Anyone who believes that, is, IMHO, delusional. Let's take cars and bikes out of the equation, for which there are millions on the UK roads alone, but what about boats, ships, large and small aircraft, industrial equipment, gardening equipment, home heating and that's before we even consider military requirements, the list goes on and on. Unless they totally ban the use of petrol vehicles on our roads then I will continue to use my ICE powered motorcycle. Getting rid of Petrol and Diesel vehicles will cost trillions of pounds, where the F_ _ k do some of these holier than thou individuals think all this money is gonna come from, I have no doubt that when tax starts to rise they'll whine about that as well. And for those who spout on about not having to pay vehicle tax for their EV, really! Let's see how long that lasts when the government starts losing millions in fuel revenue....Rant over, deep breath and time for a beer
