  1. I would get on contact with the owner and give him the following options. 1. Collect the bike. 2. You deliver the bike to him if its not to far and you have a trailor or van. 3. Buy the bike back off him. 4. If he doesnt want to do any of the above notify him that from a set date you will start charging him storage fees ( state costs per week ) and after a set period and no resolution the bike will be disposed of or sold to pay storage fees. Deliver the letter to his address and keep a copy for your records and hope this jolts him in to action or his family may just spur him on to do one of the above. Good luck keep us updated on how you get on.
  2. Hi there this thread may be of use to you and give you an idea what can be achieved 2001 Honda Cityfly clr125 Restoration - Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations - The Motorbike Forum
  3. Have a look on this siteHonda Motorcycle Parts, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Motorcycle Parts - ATV, Classic Bike, Dirt Bike Parts (cmsnl.com) you will need your model number probably on the chassis plate then you can look up the part numbers and then you can search the web from there. The caliper was probably used on other suzukis so that will help. Try Robinsons foundry suzuki dealers they are very good at old stock parts to.
  4. To all those interested in road racing the North West 200 racing is being shown on BBC Northern Island today and the big race on Saturday. The weather is looking good it has been a bit wet this morning (thursday) but its drying rapidly and forcast good for Saturday. You can watch it live on BBC I player or on catch up.
  5. Your best bet would be ring a few Harley dealers and get their advice for a price and look on all the bike selling sites ebay, Autotrader and MCN. A lot of Harleys are individual or customised in some way so that can add detract from the base price. If you get talking to dealers if they are interested send them loads of pictures or spec they may even want to buy it. If you sell it privately DO NOT give address details or info where the bike is garaged to anyone you do not know if they want to view unfortunatly there are scum out there who will want to view check out the location then nick the bike on another day. Do not let anyone test ride the bike without handing you the selling price in cash before riding it and you want to see proof they have insurance. Do not let buyers see or photograph the V5c reg document especially the referance number as this can then be used to apply for a V5c in their name once they have nicked it later. If the bike is currently insured the moment you sell it cancel the policy as it has been known for the new owner not to have insurance and to crash the bike then the third party claim on the previous owners insurance. If you want to take the hassle and the strain out of selling the bike ring round a load of dealers for that style of bike and see what they would offer. Play one of against the other you wont get as much but bikes gone and one thing less for the family to worry about. I know this sounds a bit pessimistic but its better to be wise to the scams and scum out there these days. Good luck for your father in law on the stroke recovery road.
  6. For what its worth from the picture its got to be worth 500 quid. You could take a punt and advertise it and see what offers you get. People will buy anything to do up these days and parts a available.
  7. I listen to a radio consumer prog most morning down here on Three counties radio and it is unbelievable how companies still try to fob customers off and to take it up with the Manufactuer even huge retailers and online sellers. Your contract is always with the company that you paid the money to.
  8. Your contract is with Homebase as you brought it from them, Under the consumer rights act 2015 it is their responsability as the retailer to deal with it. Dont get fobbed off it failed within 6 months so it is up to them to prove you have broken it so you dont need and engineers report. So its up to them to pick it up free of charge and either fix, replace or refund. Just quote the said act and state the product has to be of reasonable quality, fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time for the price paid. Good luck.
  9. Batteries on small bikes take a bit of a beating really and unless you do a good hours riding with the revs up you probably dont put enough back into the battery for the omph you used starting the bike up. Plus you have the lights on indicators and stuff so the battery has a hard life. Throw in winter and cold and you can knock 25% of a good battery before you start. How old is your battery? if its getting on a bit it may pay you to keep it on a trickle charger to keep it topped up and have your lights turned off when you try to start it. Plus a alternator doesnt really start putting charge back into the battery until its reving over 4 thousand revs, so you can see how they can soon lose its power.
  10. Thats a nice job and hopefully saved a few quid.
  11. If it is a strainer you usually just wash them out then put it back in but if its a filter then that would be replaced. If the bike is brand new Honda may say the strainer does not need cleaning at such low mileage and just advice a change of oil then at the next service the strainer is cleaned. Have a look in the owners book or service schedule it may say what is done at each service.
  12. Do you mean something like this?? 6PCS Fix A Zipper Zip Slider Puller Rescue Instant Repair Replacement Durable UK | eBay
  13. But you worked it out and you fixed it so you should be proud of that, every day is a learning day.
  14. Check that the cable is seated properly in the slide, its easier if you remove the carb so you can see the slide moving and look for obstructions.
  15. Have you put the slide in the wrong way round? usually there is a peg in the carb that stops you doing this but I know of old carbs that dont have this so if you put it in 180 degrees out the bike will rev its head off.
  16. That brings back memories I saw Rush around 1980 at Stone in Staffs what a gig.
  17. If it cut out when it started to rain then water is getting at th ignition somewhere so try to dry all the connection blocks out check the wiring for damage or water ingress. Look at the HT lead and cap and dry out and seal lead and possibly change plug cap if it looks suspect. Dont understand why there was water in the airbox but check dry out if water in there and dry filter or replace. It may pay to drain all the petrol out of the tank as there could be water in there and carbs injection systems do not like droplets of water. Once you get the ignition dried out get a spray can of ignition sealer and spray on exposed leads and tape if anything looks bodged. If ts got a injection system it probably doesnt have a choke so the ecu will adjust mixture from cold. Look up the cold start procedure some bikes need the throttle closed others you have to open slightly, what does the manual say on starting.
  18. It sounds like you have a break in the wiring on the left side sending power to the dash light.
  19. Good luck Rennie I hope it works out for you and your family
  20. It was and is the greatest track in the world but I fear like others that it will be consigned to the history books soon. I have been many times since the early eighties and its like no other races. You are so close to the action you get the turbulant air go over you as the bikes race by ( 6 feet away on the Cronk y voddy straight). You can see and hear the torture the tyres as they fight for traction you can see the riders eyes as they concentrate so hard. It has changed over the years it has had to due to deaths and accidents which was inevitable. Before covid I had started going to the Classic TT in August as it was just as good racing but there was a lot more variety of bikes being ridden by visitors more like back in the eighties now everyone is on sports bikes. Sadly the Jurby show has now gone and the classic TT has been shortened so no sure what the future will be for that. But If you get the chance get to either before you die it is like no other race/place on earth.
  21. Also on the outside hedgerow as the bikes approach Ballacraine its very heavy braking and banking left and usually where bikes starting breaking down so they pull off here. If you park on the back road you are on the outside of the coarse so you can get to St Johns and then over to peel and on towards Kirk Michael where you can watch as the bikes go around school bend into the village or go into Glen willen campsite and follow the footpath along to get to a few more viewing points. As others have said mountain is good as long as its decent weather if its not go into Ramsey and watch in the town. The gooseneck is a good point to as they start to haul up the mountain, Windy corner is another great spot but as the name suggests a bit exposed. Rhencullen just outside Kirk Michael is another great spot on the bank as they scream out of the village.
  22. Good places to view from is about 200 yards along the Cronk y voddy straight the bikes have reach full chat and you are only feet away also further along as they bank right and dive down the hill. My favorite of all time has to be on the village green in Kirk Michael with the refreshment tent run by the WI. To see and hear a race bike blast through between the houses will live with you forever. Another great viewing point is on a sharp left hander before Laural Bank. The entrance is a farm entrance 100 yards after the bend into a field. You will be there for the duration of the race and a donation to the local charity but you are loking down on the bikes as they come through great sound and sights. There are so many great places to watch from including the mountain, Braddon Bridge, Hillberry, The bungalow so so many you could spend a lifetime and still not get to them all. If you want to move about turn right at the pub and the start of the sulby straight and you can get to the bungalow via back lanes and a few other viewing places. You will love these roads on your V strom. Good luck you will have a great time.
  23. If the bike is fuel injected could it be the tank is pressurised by the system and what you are hearing is as you stop the engine the pressure is vented.
  24. Thats usually the way if it looks bad on the outside you can be sure the inside will be worse unfortunatly, you did the right thing replacing it. They are made so cheap its lucky there is paint on the outside of the arm but you can be sure they wont have put any rust prevention inside.
  25. From your brief description it could be the circuit board in the housing that is playing up as its got hot, or as you say could be a sensor somewhere that is sending a rogue signal. Your best bet would be to speak to a bike dealer that has experiance of this make and pick their brains and hopefully they have seen the same problem.
