  1. Have you put the slide in the wrong way round? usually there is a peg in the carb that stops you doing this but I know of old carbs that dont have this so if you put it in 180 degrees out the bike will rev its head off.
  2. That brings back memories I saw Rush around 1980 at Stone in Staffs what a gig.
  3. If it cut out when it started to rain then water is getting at th ignition somewhere so try to dry all the connection blocks out check the wiring for damage or water ingress. Look at the HT lead and cap and dry out and seal lead and possibly change plug cap if it looks suspect. Dont understand why there was water in the airbox but check dry out if water in there and dry filter or replace. It may pay to drain all the petrol out of the tank as there could be water in there and carbs injection systems do not like droplets of water. Once you get the ignition dried out get a spray can of ignition sealer and spray on exposed leads and tape if anything looks bodged. If ts got a injection system it probably doesnt have a choke so the ecu will adjust mixture from cold. Look up the cold start procedure some bikes need the throttle closed others you have to open slightly, what does the manual say on starting.
  4. It sounds like you have a break in the wiring on the left side sending power to the dash light.
  5. Good luck Rennie I hope it works out for you and your family
  6. It was and is the greatest track in the world but I fear like others that it will be consigned to the history books soon. I have been many times since the early eighties and its like no other races. You are so close to the action you get the turbulant air go over you as the bikes race by ( 6 feet away on the Cronk y voddy straight). You can see and hear the torture the tyres as they fight for traction you can see the riders eyes as they concentrate so hard. It has changed over the years it has had to due to deaths and accidents which was inevitable. Before covid I had started going to the Classic TT in August as it was just as good racing but there was a lot more variety of bikes being ridden by visitors more like back in the eighties now everyone is on sports bikes. Sadly the Jurby show has now gone and the classic TT has been shortened so no sure what the future will be for that. But If you get the chance get to either before you die it is like no other race/place on earth.
  7. Also on the outside hedgerow as the bikes approach Ballacraine its very heavy braking and banking left and usually where bikes starting breaking down so they pull off here. If you park on the back road you are on the outside of the coarse so you can get to St Johns and then over to peel and on towards Kirk Michael where you can watch as the bikes go around school bend into the village or go into Glen willen campsite and follow the footpath along to get to a few more viewing points. As others have said mountain is good as long as its decent weather if its not go into Ramsey and watch in the town. The gooseneck is a good point to as they start to haul up the mountain, Windy corner is another great spot but as the name suggests a bit exposed. Rhencullen just outside Kirk Michael is another great spot on the bank as they scream out of the village.
  8. Good places to view from is about 200 yards along the Cronk y voddy straight the bikes have reach full chat and you are only feet away also further along as they bank right and dive down the hill. My favorite of all time has to be on the village green in Kirk Michael with the refreshment tent run by the WI. To see and hear a race bike blast through between the houses will live with you forever. Another great viewing point is on a sharp left hander before Laural Bank. The entrance is a farm entrance 100 yards after the bend into a field. You will be there for the duration of the race and a donation to the local charity but you are loking down on the bikes as they come through great sound and sights. There are so many great places to watch from including the mountain, Braddon Bridge, Hillberry, The bungalow so so many you could spend a lifetime and still not get to them all. If you want to move about turn right at the pub and the start of the sulby straight and you can get to the bungalow via back lanes and a few other viewing places. You will love these roads on your V strom. Good luck you will have a great time.
  9. If the bike is fuel injected could it be the tank is pressurised by the system and what you are hearing is as you stop the engine the pressure is vented.
  10. Thats usually the way if it looks bad on the outside you can be sure the inside will be worse unfortunatly, you did the right thing replacing it. They are made so cheap its lucky there is paint on the outside of the arm but you can be sure they wont have put any rust prevention inside.
  11. From your brief description it could be the circuit board in the housing that is playing up as its got hot, or as you say could be a sensor somewhere that is sending a rogue signal. Your best bet would be to speak to a bike dealer that has experiance of this make and pick their brains and hopefully they have seen the same problem.
  12. Here you go needs a liitle work but they make a great green laner and you would have money left over. 1987 Yamaha TT225 rare off road TRAIL bike great project us import NOW £1599 | eBay
  13. That is a bummer Rennie hopefully things will work out and it could be a blessing in disguise.
  14. If you are capable and the metal that you need to repair is strong enough you will have no problem with the MOT. make sure the inside of the swing arm is ok as usually what you can see on the outside is usually far worse on the inside. Dont forget heat transfer could bugger up the bushes/bearings. Have you looked at getting one from a breakers in better condition.
  15. That is a bummer for you rennie I hope it all works out for you and your fellow workers. This country is losing so much engineering skill and talent all we will have left is burger flippers and coffee shops.

    50cc

Go for a twist and go would be my suggestion but if she is travelling on poor roads try to get one with bigger diameter wheels to cope with potholes and slippery surfaces. With an auto she can concentrate on the riding and traffic around her. Its only for a year and when she moves up to a 125 the clutch control and gears wont take long to master and already being able to ride. Good luck to her on a whole world of fun and enjoyment.
  17. Have you tried these people, if i remember right they were on the Motorbike show a while back and Henry Cole was out riding one of their trikes and rated the build highly. Trike Shop
  18. Once you have dried it out try and find where the moisture is getting in and seal it up.
  19. I seem to think I have read this problem before that it is a common problem of water getting into the binnicle and all manner of strange things happen to the electrical circuits.
  20. Get it out there and ride it whats the point of sitting there looking at it. Think of all the smile per mile you can have riding it. PS i havnt got a clue what 6 degrees and DCS?????????????
  21. Is it a blind hole or can you get at the back of the bolt thread, if you can get something like plus gas and soak it with that. The bolt probably has thread lock on it so cycles of heat and plus gas over a few days and as said a longer breaker bar or a pipe on the socket and gently ease it undone. Or you could try a an impact driver as the shock they produce can break the bolts grip.
  22. I didnt realise this was a hobby now but it has been a strange couple of years.
  23. I would find a big bucket and stick the engine in there and pour diesel over it until its an inch above the stuck bolt threads then leave it for a week or to. Take it out drain it off then give it a blast of heat and a tweak with grips. If it doesnt move back in the tank for another soak and repeat. It can take ages as the studs have been in there for years. Another way ive used is the stud will be scrap so shorten it to say an inch above the barrel face then using an arce welder weld on a big tight fitting nut. This puts a lot of heat in a small space hopefully breaking the bond of the bolt and cases and you can get a ring spanner on for a bit of leverage.
  24. That has all the style of a biege breeze block what an ugly thing.
