Give DK motorcycle spares in Newcastle-under-Lyme a ring, they break thousands of older bikes and bring bikes in from abroad you may get lucky.
-
You can ride a bike as long as it has insurance to a pre arranged MOT station then tax it when it passes, but if you get pulled as you say on the way to work you are on a sticky wicket and plod may think you are taking the piss and nick you.

CBR600 F3 1998 - amateur restoration
Old-codger replied to Hairsy's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
If you can clean around the stud and use plus gas spray over a few days between heat cycles dont force it as you said. Give the stud a tweak clockwise this can break the bond. Before the thread is completely knackered if you can beg borrow or steal and arc welder, weld a nut onto the stud this sudden extreme heat can help break the grip of the stud on the cylinder. When the stud starts to move stop and check it is moving and not sheering off, if it moved wind it back in a fraction then go again hopefully a bit further this time. It looks like you have plenty of patience so slow and steady and hopefully it will come out. Good luck. -

What to do with keys???
Old-codger replied to Simon Davey's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Just a suggestion but for many years I have put one of those coloured key rings on to all of my keys, the type you can open and write on the card inside. I then put my mobile number on it then if I ever lose the keys and someone finds them they can give me a ring to reunite me with the keys. A word of caution though if you do lose the keys and some one rings, agree to meet them away from bike/car/house that the keys fit just incase they are thiefing morons. 99.9 % of people are decent and will try to reunite yo with the keys. Over the years I have found loads of keys while out with the dog and try to get them back to the owners. -
Yes that will work or an old metal tent peg bent into shape or for smaller springs use an old small screwdriver bent into shape with a bit of heat.

Make or buy a spring puller, it makes life so much less painfull.

How to visit the Isle of Man TT with limited budget ?
Old-codger replied to TheRosssiiii's topic in Biking events
Second the peel campsite but not been there since covid it was council run and a good site, Glen Wyllin at Kirk Michael is very good also right on the coarse. You have the big site on the rugby pitches I think its Bradden bridge that has tents to rent but look it up. -
How to visit the Isle of Man TT with limited budget ?
Old-codger replied to TheRosssiiii's topic in Biking events
Its never cheap going to the TT but to go on a budget and keep costs low go as a foot passenger via the hydofoils from liverpool or the ferries from Heysham further up the coast. TT week is the most expensive but if you go the week before to watch practice and perhaps stay for a couple of days racing on the Saturday and monday then a ferry back can cut the cost. Or go mid race week and come back well after the races as the island winds down. There are campsites that rent tents to save taking all the stuff with you and up in the paddock area there is a hotel made out of container like structures that you can book by the day I think. I think the tourist board have a scheme matching visitors to home owners on the island that are willing to hoast guests, Have a look at that on the IOM website. Good luck with your trip it is well worth a visit an amazing specticle. -

Just a suggestion for modern day problems!!!!! could you not take up smoking again at least you wouldnt go off coarse then.

I would be asking the police if they have evidence of other drivers doing this illegal turn and then pressure them and the highways authority to make this junction safer by either closing it altogether or making it impossible to turn right. The highways could install cameras at the junction to monitor and then make the necessary alterations. Good luck I hope it all goes well and re the horse comment Its a NO from me them things have a mind of their own, a motorcycle is a lot more fun and the stabling fees are a lot cheaper.

I hope the recovery goes well for you all and you can put it all behind you. Sadly in this country the sentencing for driving offences are pathetic and do in no way reflect the injury and damage they cause to others. I hope you have a very good solicitor to fight your corner for the present and ongoing health problems the accident has caused.

CBR600 F3 1998 - amateur restoration
Old-codger replied to Hairsy's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
As others have said a tap with a centre punch and hammer to shock the bolt but not enough to break the hugger keep soaking it with penetrating fluid. By the look of it put masking tape on the hugger to protect it and I would clamp a pair of mole grips on it and then gently move it back and forwards over time. It may only move a mil or two but give it time more fluid and hopefully it will start to free off. Dont try to turn to much or you risk snapping the bolt head off. If it does break centre punch it the drill it out and then run a tap through it to clean up thr thread. Good luck -
I feel for you it is so hard when you lose a much loved pet, I lost my last retriever nearly four years ago and not a day goes by that I dont think about him.

When I get electronic things like this I just sit down and methodically work through button sequences and hopefully start to see different menus and then work through them. Have you tried ringing a dealer that sells or has sold this model for advice.
