  1. Tried the Beeline app on my mobile today. Mostly ok but not sure what it would be like in a busy city (maybe not too bad as speeds lower) and it did send me on a merry detour around a village green on my way home (seemingly because I'd manually rerouted the ride home so it would take me a different route and it got a bit confused in one village)
  2. @KiwiBob tbh I'm less interested in the bickering over seizing evidence, more in the idea that if you're riding like a bit of a dick it may be used against you when deciding any reduction in payout
  3. In the end hers were easier to fit than mine... At least once I took over (possibly didn't help that I may have been making rude noises we she tried to get them on and suggesting she tried to twist it a bit to really get the good stuff)
  4. Here's our local weather guru explaining what the hell is going on https://www.facebook.com/496339580557163/posts/1591078424416601/
  5. The Grip Puppies I ordered for @Magpie84's bike have arrived, so I get the joy of watching her try and get them on her bike. Knowing my luck they'll both go on fine, unlike the left hand side on mine which was a right pig, despite the throttle side being easy
  6. Parkopedia sometimes has details but not always. I think where motorbike parking is involved it's also useful to know if it's free and whether there's any security features such as attachments for chains available
  7. I saw this FOI response the other day and it tickled me https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/anpr_cameras_cctv?nocache=incoming-1774065#incoming-1774065
  8. I'd suggest some of you avoid rural roads, much much more dangerous. Even before you factor improvements that could still be made to smart motorways in terms of stopped vehicle detection and more frequent refuges. But then humans always are poor at risk perception.
  9. I've done exactly the same before, Streetview is getting better at mapping car parks but as you said it relies on being up to date. One council I looked at under motorcycle parking said "please check the information board or plate for any restrictions". Great help.... Companies like NCP aren't much more helpful....
  10. @Mississippi Bullfrog was spot on and I was going to post exactly that. So now just posting to say he's right. Note they'll also take a dim view that you stated you were the registered keeper when commencing the insurance. So as well as having to pay out they would also likely cancel the insurance, you then have added pain taking out any other type of insurance in the future when they ask "have you ever been denied insurance or had insurance cancelled/voided"
  11. Not an answer sorry, but I have been wondering if there's a need for some sort of crowdsourced parking directory - it can be so hard to work out where parking is. I think some people have done them for London but around here it can be a nightmare as even within a council different car parks/bays can have different rules
  12. I want something in between really - something that doesn't put people off BUT does keep them safe. Those KSIs for kids does it for me and clinches any other argument. I know some will always have a certain attitude, will perform as they need to during the training then just carry on 'as normal' but for all the other 16/17 year olds with zero road experience I desperately want them to have more training to give them the best chance. Funnily enough I wonder how many ditch it anyway after a terrible first few rides after only being on the road for a few hours on the CBT. Further how many parents tell their kids they're not learning to ride because of 'the danger' and the lack of in-depth tuition? I do think the A2/A1 expense and faff is a bigger turn off longer term. I'm not sure a theory test and two days training for a CBT would cause a cataclysmic drop off in CBT attendance.
  13. Arguably the cost of learning to drive a car is more (40 odd hours of lessons is average, about £30 a lesson, plus everything else on top comes to about a grand and a half), but can't disagree on the complexity. And absolutely if you're younger and starting out you have to repeat tests which bumps up the price.
  14. Other than marketing, I thought the definition of marmalade is it includes the rind?
  15. Funnily enough this popped up on my YouTube suggested videos today, some of you may have seen it before https://youtu.be/DVPeZg4Imqw
  16. We have a nextbase one that uses one of the add a fuse thingies, so turns on and off with the car. Overwrites the oldest footage as necessary. Never had any cause for complaint with it. It's always been there just in case, there's mini roundabout near our house where people constantly cut it at speed and if you were there a second before would have reworked the front of your car. After yet another close call I wanted it to make the insurance case easier to prove they were on my side of the road and flew in
  17. Haven't you got a chain to clean? Amazed you have time to post on a forum ps does my timing chain count?
  18. Ah, belt drive. As I frequently remind my wife when she starts doing maintenance on her Tiger.
  19. Potential survivorship bias there @NeilM!
  20. Yes @Old-codger, I've known a few drivers who thought (whether stupidity or reading stuff on the internet) that if they ignored a request to identify the driver then the police couldn't do anything. Without realising that failure to do so lands the registered keeper in hotter water (and as I understand it, insurers take a dim view of that offence on your record too). Perverting the course of justice is another layer higher
  21. Fitted the MRA X-creen which was a recent eBay bargain. I had one on my last bike and missed it, so seeing if it helps with higher speed buffeting on my shoulders on this one
  22. Easy to lose control and then take out another road user. Something that seems to be lost in the comments on it.
  23. Indeed..... https://themotorbikeforum.co.uk/forum/topic/36832-kawasaki-and-yamaha-are-closing-many-of-their-plants/?tab=comments#comment-548985 The logic is sound for younger rides to give them a progression in power rather than just swinging their leg over a litre bike at 18. I think there should be similar for car driving (eg 17 year olds can only drive a 1.0l engine). What I don't agree with is the fact that kids have to retake the same tests (theory, mod 1 etc) several times to get there.
