  1. If and when I can afford one I will get one. At least for my commuting.
  2. I think if CBT was not enough people would not be insured following only a CBT. There is plenty of actuarial evidence that people take CBTs and are able to ride adequately. not necessarily well but adequately. that said our system seems weird to me.
  3. I am 39, two years ago I took my full A license and can now ride any size bike. I could have taken my test on a sub 33bhp bike and been limited to it or on a 125 and been limited to it but there was no need for that. I could and did go directly to unlimited Bike licence. I had risen on a CBT on a 125 for 18 months but could have taken CBT a day before my mid 1 and 2 if I wanted. The person you spoke to has chosen the route they have taken and the limitations or they have been incorrectly advised.
  4. Definitely earplugs. As essential as a helmet and gloves. Oh and get proper clothes. You can do being a biker however you like. those starting in mid forties and buying litre bikes to use on weekends in the sunshine on nice twisters are more at risk of it going wrong.
  5. That would make sense. Sound gone with new chain
  6. I do, ish. I’ll drop you a line :/)
  7. With many safety ones covered I’ll offer something different. a motorbike is a god opportunity to learn some basic mechaniccing skills and it is surprising what you can achieve with the help of people on here.
  8. If you have @fastbob I would appreciate it. If not I will buy one thanks @TimR for highlighting it. it was a clank but seems to have gone. I was put in mind of when riding a push bike and free wheeling and then going for it and taking the slack out of the chain system and it suddenly driving the wheels. One of the reasons for wanting to change the chain. 22 miles to work this morning. Brilliant!
  9. I looked with my measuring device thing that part of me wants to call a micrometer and part wants to call callipers and part thinks if I said either I would be wrong. the plate is the same on both ends. I think one rivet is collapsed/splayed more than the other. took bike out, feels great and there was sound I was hoping changing the chain would eradicate and it may have. more reflection later when not parenting.
  10. Finished the bike, took it out for a run. Then the allotment with the kids for a few hours. My peppers and chillies don’t look happy too variable a temperature. I might start again.
  11. Will do that in the morning. I need to go and run through in my head everything I did and undid and make sure I am happy. I then need to go and buy some chain lube. I had run out. going to post something once I am sure it is done about what I have learned
  12. I did it. I think. I think the rivets are splayed enough. I am nervous to go to far. Any tips to know if it is enough?
  13. Good idea. my next pause is that my chain tool thing; the plates to press the master link on; the holes in the plate that go rivet side do not line up with the rivet holes. surely this will prevent the plate from going on past the point that the rivet can then be rounded off/splayed? I have the offer of a better riveter if I need but I am wondering do I need? I could make the holes in the plate a bit bigger, I could use a different part of the tool to push in the middle of the link. Do you have any advice?
  14. That spacer is a washer for between axle nut and the plate thing. Problem solved
  15. Cush drive housing? I have two spacers that could be described as top hat, I have one on the left and one on the right, I kept the one on the right on the axle so I think I have them the right way round.
  16. I have a spacer I cannot seem to fit. I think it goes between the calliper bracket and the swing arm. I am not 100 per cent sure and I cannot quite figure out the parts diagram. where am I going wrong. Is it just that it is tight and will require some fiddling? I did not spot this spacer when I took it apart hence my confusion.
  17. Okay, spacers. I think I have them in the right order. I have checked parts diagrams. I just want to check because the one that fits against the baring seems to stick out and is free floating around the axle if the axle is through. Is that right?
  18. I used a Grinder and just cut through. That was a few hours ago. Waiting for new specs then home to try and sort it all I have r-clips, split pins, thread lock and copper grease thanks to Halfords
  19. Happy Birthday
  20. Going out on a hunt for stuff. I have to go to Glos for an eye test for 11:30 so going to try some tool places there.
  21. Thank you. Seems medium strength is the same as non-hardening? local motor factors is checking they have some in stock for me.
  22. Would PTFE tape do it?
  23. High gang. help me out again please. Book says I need non hardening thread locking stuff to fix the new sprocket to rear wheel. i cannot find such a thing on the net. I can find thread lock, and plumbing thread sealant. I need to be able to get it from a shop today unless one of you says it is not necessary.
