Took the BMW to a hell hole of a shopping centre near me (Rushden Lakes) no way was I going to try and park the car there. All in all ended up with a 50 mile bimble to do something that should have taken about 7 miles lol. Roads lovely and quiet but that wind is definitely building. Cheers Ian

They don`t leak and are fantastic at avoiding damage to expensive Dymags from the filler nozzle. Also standard fitment by several manufacturers including Guzzi, BMW and Indian just from a straw poll in my garage. Definitely fit them but in the meantime zip tie one of the screw on ones somewhere on the bike. Cheers Ian

Quirky little belt drive number and more reliable than the 250 scorpion I recall a few on the London despatch scene. Can`t have been bad to end up there. Cheers Ian

Chilly Willy run Billing
Ian Frog replied to Bianco2564's topic in Midlands & Lincs ride outs and meets
2025 Chilly Willy with guest starter Steve Parrish is on 12th Jan ! Anyone going? @Mawsley I presume you could unsorn the Harley for the occasion. Cheers Ian -

Thanks for that I am sure a lot of us will find that interesting. Any country that has a museum dedicated to the penis must have a great sense of humour. Cheers Ian

I would definitely listen to the advice above from @onesea particularly if he is going to explain his maintainence regieme. Like women they can also be high maintenance cleaning chain adjustment, tyres servicing. I would also like to know how to adjust the chain on a woman ! Maybe get the Harley at least it`s belt drive and possibly has the best residual value if you look after it (again like a woman). Cheers Ian

I don`t tend to use paint on calipers as they have a hard life. I will investigate powder coating at some point, I have heard good things about the guys at Redditch Coatings and if I am not in any rush I will give them a call. Alternatively Cerakote is available locally so I have options. Cheers Ian

Front end reassembled just got fork settings to put back to my preference and the brakes to bleed. Quite pleased with the calipers but I think a better coating to match the Dymags is in the future . Cheers Ian

Tokico 6 pots cleaning
Ian Frog replied to Ian Frog's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
From what I can tell the dishwasher tablets don`t have salt, however even if they did the calipers were totally dry when I retrieved them and I always intended to give them a wipe down with brake cleaner prior to pads etc going back in so I am hoping the salt effects will be minimal??? As a footnote I have also carried on cleaning and I have used WD around the seals and outer surfaces (NOTE prior to the re-installation of pads etc). Cheers Ian -
Tokico 6 pots cleaning

For what it's worth this is where I am so far. Both calipers have been through the dishwasher ( with grudging permission lol). Caliper on the right hss then been GENTLY polished using a toothbrush and Solvol being very careful. Now the controversial bit to remove the last of the polish residue following the brake cleaner I have dampened a rag with WD40 and gone round all the crooks and nannys. I have been cautious and the pads are already out and in a seperate bag with the pins etc ( before the inevitable horror stories about lubricant and braking lol ). Interested if I can find an easier way to improve the results? Cheers Ian -
Tokico 6 pots cleaning
Ian Frog replied to Ian Frog's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Copious amounts of brake cleaner already used as first choice but the matt finish clings on to the brake dust residue. I don't own a sonic bath so the dishwasher was an idea. It's more a case of not wanting to go too heavy with scrubbing etc as the gold coating is probably not that robust. Cheers Ian -

Fair point ! Cheers Ian -
progress ! Fork oil arrives this afternoon and query about calipers in new thread on old bikes and restorations. Cheers Ian

Just a thought which you might be able to help with. The calipers on the ZRX have that horrible matt gold finish that is a pig to clean ( see attached example) so I wondered as the pads are out and the fluid holes are blocked with bolts would it be worth running through the dishwasher? Obviously I would either wait till Carol is out or otherwise distracted. Its just that after ages of scrubbing with brake cleaner I dont want to damage the gold finish. Cheers Ian

weather is horrible so decided to start the service stuff on the ZRX. Oil and filter today fork oil change when Wemoto delivers the 10W hopefully tomorrow so I will strip front end down and get ready maybe leave legs to drip out overnight. Cheers Ian

Less than 10 miles away we had a dusting of wet slimy snow which is disappearing fast. Do you find that washing and ACFing your duvet helps? Cheers Ian
