  1. First thing to ask is what is the fuel you are using like ?

It may be worth changing it for fresh and if you are storing the bike over winter might be worth draining completely (including carbs) to prevent the seperating and formation of water at the lower points.

If fuel fresh and ok then start to look at battery health then all the usual things that affect sparks on older Hondas.

Feeling that your description is not clear enough I have done some pain staking research…
This gentlemen is modelling suspenders amply hi-lighted by his thumbs.

These ladies are using suspenders to hold up there lower leg protection, some riders prefer this minimalist approach to bike gear.

Maybe they find the zips difficult to undo when it comes to toilet stops?

I hope this helps reduce confusion.

  3. Mine was a Z650 B1 in a pale blue bought 2nd hand and despite loads of miles and adventures I regret not buying it back from the guy I sold it to in 84 or thereabouts when he returned from an overland trip to Greece even though the colour had changed and the miles were stratospheric by then lol.

Just be sure you’re sitting down when you start looking at the ferry costs. Some of the prices I’ve seen quoted lately for Santander and Bilbao have been staggering.

I’ve seen mention though that some people have found it cheaper to cross to Ireland and travel south to Rosslare and catch the ferry from there.

Thanks for that @Gerontious I will investigate as every time I look at Brittany Ferries prices I get palpitations of the wallet and I want to go back to Northern Spain as soon as I can.

As a bonus a couple of days in Ireland would be a good craic anyway.

But while fitting a lay down bracket for the number plate access to the inner rear mudguard was tight and it was an opportunity to check and grease fittings that had probably never been disturbed since she was born 15 years ago.

I haven't forgotten @fastbob and the filter photo lol.

It just a bit more naughty, a bit more exciting. It has that something that gets the blood pumping when you give it a bit of throttle. There was always something ‘meh’ about the 1250. Great for touring, superb actually, but for a bit of fun on a weekend? Nah.

New 1300 just felt fun to ride.  I feel like I could enjoy commuting on it. Something I could never do on the 1250 (Adv).

Insurance are tearing my pants down, though. £1800 quid! Part exchanging the S1000R softens the blow a bit.

If you get the chance go and see the off road clever kids on the 1300 at the NEC show.

Proper talented little buggers who appear to be having a lot of fun in a limited space.

Ok then . That proves conclusively that I do NOT have a Stage One filter or backplate . I would be interested to see what the new one looks like when it is installed. ( Without the chrome cover obviously )

I will hop the chrome cover off a bit later and take a pic.

My filter came from Uppingham and I have found that both they and Vee Twin in Northampton can do the ecu flash so then I can do a true comparison.

  8. Hi @fastbob

You really need to work less hard lol.

What I have photographed is the original back plate and filter that I have removed and the label is from the stage 1 kit I have installed.

My hope is your set up is already a stage 1 filter as your pipes are already in place and I found it ran absolutely spot on.

    Cheers

  9. On my stage 1 kit the filter had a different backplate that goes under the original cover, which is what I suspect you have.

The pipes I went for are identical to the ones you have.

just the remap to do as soon as I get a chance.

The new p[pes are on the post that @janinej put the right way up for me last weekend lol.

    Cheers

  10. Hi Bob

I never actually took the battery out as I just used the maintenance cables for my Optimate.

Your bike already has the stage 1 and what I a doing to the new one is just copying what I experienced before.

Your bike was always a good starter and I found it a much smoother runner than other Harley`s I have encountered.

What does the difference feel like with the Stage One tune ?

So far unridden but it seems to start easier and the tickover isn`t as lumpy.

I suspect there are lean spots in the original mapping for emission targets.

I will report back once new map completed and test mileage under my belt.

Back in the 1990s there was a magazine I used to buy at the time called Motorcycle International. And one issue had a HD special which I must admit caught my eye and was up to that point the only HD based bike that I ever thought: "I would buy that." This when the Cafe racer style was being introduced. or reintroduced by Triumph most obviously with its Speed Triple 900 (I owned one a year or two later): Sadly, only 20 were ever made in 1994. It was called the HDS1200 and was built by the grandson of the founder of Velocette.

    • Reynolds 531 tube bronze welded frame and swingarm
    • Full floater cast iron Brembo brakes
    • Goodman designed magnesium wheels, built by Techno Magnesia
    • Marzocci front forks, independently adjustable compression and rebound damping

That looks really nice, I wonder if I will be the only one who sees a bit of the Hesketh in there?

    Probably better built though.

    Cheers
