  1. Just learned that my best friend's dad passed away
  2. I pretty much doubt it...
  3. Can anybody explain why I woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep???
  4. The valve @manxie49 says is the 3 way valve. What it does is to manage the water flow for heating and/or hot water. It could be simply blocked with limescale and in need of a good clean up. Depending on the system age it could be filled with silt (black sludge) and blocked. Worth to drain the whole thing and refill adding a cleaning agent, you can get it from toolstation or screwfix. Then drain it again and fill with some corrosion prevention additive. There are some plumbers that will do a system clean but that will cost you around £500 and you will be at his/her mercy.
  5. Sounds like the 3 way valve. get a sledge hammer and start tapping
  6. Is that a room thermostat or the boiler one?
  7. here's my ridiculous story... Had smart meters installed by Pure planet. They never managed to get a proper reading out and I would have to send readings every month. Then changed to Outfox the market, cheaper and a wee better costumer service. A few months down the line I went to take a read from the gas meter and I couldn't turn it on. Contacted OtM and they said I needed smart meters and they will replace the existing ones. Well.. I know I'm a numpty but I know the difference between a smartarse and a dumb meter. But they said it must be replaced so I just played along. On the set day the guy come to install the meters and told me. "You already have smart meters, they just haven't been commissioned properly." "Oh really?? I told them that the problem was the battery on the gas meter but they said it needs replacing." For a moment I thought I was talking klingon considering the way he looked at me. After 2 hours he come back saying that there was a problem with the system and he couldn't commission the meters. "Someone will book an appointment to do it in the next few days." Got an email booking the appointment for 2 months later... In the meanwhile lockdown come and nobody showup. Called the cowboys and was told the appointment was cancelled. "When are you making a new one?" "We can't tell until the lockdown will end." "So, say 2 months of lockdown, then 2 months for a new appointment. I'll be 6 months stuck to the same supplier because I can't change until you finish the job you were supposed to do." "I apologise..." "Sure, are you giving me the difference for the cheaper energy?" "Errr. no." "We'll see about that... I'm not spending money that I don't need to just because you have no idea what customer service is." "Yes, please gives us a call as soon the lockdown ends and we will sort it." Now! (Billy Connolly's "Now") I'm not going to phokeng call anybody so I've emailed OtM yesterdayas they are the suppliers and I don't deal with cowboys. Today got a reply with a long apology and that they will have it sorted.
  8. And he's a biker
  9. Good morning everybody. Snow is going
  10. Glad I didn't put the covers back Just need to plug the multimeter and check what I have. Glad I asked before starting cutting cables and messing with it Just ordered a flux core reel from amazon by £33 free delivery. It will be enough for my few diy projects. I don't need anything fancy to be used a couple times a year. Thank you @Bender and @dynax for your help. Much appreciated.
  11. AH... I thought welding would only work on DC It's yours if the missus won't sell it on crapface
  12. True @dynax but if I can use normal wire instead then it will be cheaper and the wire won't get rust as flux cored one. Then the postage will be almost the same as the cost of the wire. A 5kg normal reel is around £20 while flux core is £35 and rust free
  13. First a bit of background. 2019 I bought a Lidl welding machine. This is a Parkside PFDS 120 A2 For under £100 the machine is well worth the money. I made so far my trailer's frame. My Floodlight stand and a few other minor works. No complains about it except the wire needs to be a flux core, for those who don't know about mig welding there are 2 types of wire for welding. Now, I know that some, more expensive mig welders can use both FC wire and gas shielded wire and this becomes possible by inverting the polarity (IP). My question is, how can I invert the polarity on this welder? I've open it but opposite to the mig welders doesn't have the connectors for IP. The cables connect directly from the secondary coil into the cables. with some small cables feeding into the circuit board, I believe these will be some load protection. I would imagine that inserting 2 connectors just before the cables leave the box will allow the IP and the machine becoming normal and flux core wire. By the way, yes I know the normal wire used without the gas will make a hell of a spatter, even more than flux core. The reason why I want to invert the polarity is because by mistake I bought a 5kg reel that instead being flux core is normal wire. Although the normal wire is corrosion resistant because of the copper coating. Thanks in advance
  14. That is correct. See? You're not as thick as you look
  15. Hence me saying that a metal shed could be a solution. Not everybody have the space for a garage, or know how to build one or even can afford one. A metal shed is a cheaper alternative, slightly more expensive than wooden shed, and far more safer than just leave the bike to the elements.
  16. Yes. The card is where the camera will save the images. Being thick will award you prizes in here. just ask @Six30
  17. I understand that you have this weird fixation on me but quoting my post so many times???
  18. It wouldn't cross my mind to park my bikes anywhere else other than my garage, well protected from weather and unwanted people.
  19. Yeah you will need a large polytunnel and a larger gazebo Last thing you want is to be bumping into stuff because you don't have space. There are some air pumps, like the ones you have for bouncy castles, but with heating facility, that will keep dust out and they are quite powerful
  20. You could have a great improvement if you apply another layer of plastic membrane over the cover. gazebo.
  21. Short answer is no. You will need a mega heater to compensate the heat loss, there will be too many gaps where the air will escape and the thickness of the cover will be minute
  22. More like...
  23. Does anybody know where I can hire a flamethrower? Need to clear the snow on the drive
