I don't think it will make much difference which bike you use as they'll all be new to you. I would say that practicing mod 1 at the test centre is a good idea. At the end of the day its what you and your wallet feel happiest with.

Fozzie, I can assure you that there are no "more personal feelings" involved! I am as appalled as you and everyone else as to what is happening in Ukraine. I just don't like a lot of the way the press is hyping up the propaganda! In Ukraine civilians are "murdered from the skies with banned cluster bombs". .. In Iraq they were "collateral damage" The press and public also welcome Ukraine refugees with open arms and so they should! .. They aren't so keen on refugees from Afghanistan and the Middle East!

The same reason the UAE have nuclear power stations! They have "oil coming out of its ears" too

I would think that the amount of use and abuse a helmet gets is more important than its age! I'm sure a well looked after helmet worn once a week will last well more than 5 years. If its worn all day, 5 days a week and chucked around when you take it off then you probably need to change it earlier than 5 years!

If its a runner and has an MoT 'till June then for £500 I don't think you can go far wrong!

Even though its exempt I would prefer to buy a bike with 11 or 12 months MoT ... As for tax, its only £20 for a year on a 125. You should be able to get a decent 2005/6ish CG or YBR 125 for around the £1200 mark. .. it will have better brakes too.

Having just ripped the gusset on my old bike trousers I bought a pair of Oxford Montreal 3.0 trousers from SBS now down to £75 .. Quite happy with them..
