  1. Just in case he does pop back here are the fines for speeding in NZ ... https://www.police.govt.nz/faq/what-are-the-fines-for-speeding Mind you, if you're out in the wop wops the chances of getting caught are slim!
  2. There's no harm in asking "If they can sweeten the deal just a little bit more?" .. the worst they can say is no!
  3. At the speed this man works he will have next summers project done by this Christmas!
  4. nope .. private company ..nothing to do with dsa.. try reading official publications designed for those taking the test .. https://www.dsabooks.co.uk/ I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here! .. I know these guys are nothing to do with the Driving Standards Agency! I know where to book tests etc! You stated that advanced cornering techniques are " Not compatable with road craft techniques as taught in this country" I'm pointing out that they are and that they are taught in this country by this group https://motorcycleroadcraft.co.uk/motorcycle-cornering-skills (there are plenty of others) ! I am also saying that people need to learn what the examiners are looking for as it is not always what experienced rider may think.
  5. either way its not compatable with road craft techniques as taught in this country .. evidently you already know enough about riding a motorcycle so you should have no problem passing your test ... do let us know how you get on won't you !!! Not compatable with road craft techniques as taught in this country? .. Better have a word with these guys then! https://motorcycleroadcraft.co.uk/motorcycle-cornering-skills It'll be sometime before I get a test .. No slots available in my area!
  6. looks like race track derived technique Advanced Cornering - The Racing School #6 and race track cornering tuition https://www.circuitbasedtraining.co.uk/motorcycle-training/advanced-cornering-385 I would expect a Racing School to deliver race track cornering technique .. However that's not the training I received! It wasn't this course but it was something similar delivered in NZ .. https://motorcycleroadcraft.co.uk/motorcycle-cornering-skills
  7. the problem is .. this is a race track technique.. and likely to cause an accident given roads are cluttered by obstacles and hazards which you won`t find on a closed race circuit.. No! Its not racetrack technique! .. Its what I was taught as part of more advanced on road training in NZ.
  8. the difficult bit is learning how to avoid being knocked off .. and learning :by rote how :to pass a test will not provide the anticipation required to do this ... I learnt to ride a motorcycle years ago long before there were lessons. Also rode and passed my test in New Zealand and had further training. .. Unfortunately I have to re do my test in the UK and to do that I need to know what the examiner is looking for. The problem is that if you use advanced cornering etc on your test you will fail as the examiners don't consider "learners" have the experience to use it.
  9. Its not difficult to learn how to ride a motorcycle! .. The only reason I have lessons is to learn how to pass the test!
  10. I haven't removed the barrels and as the bores look so good and the mileage is less than 9,000 I'm going to take a risk and assume the pistons are sound too! .. If it comes back and bites me on the arse then I'll know better next time! Fair enough . There's no reason to suspect that there would be anything wrong with the barrels or pistons . What I would be concerned about is what lead to the cam follower being eroded like that . One common issue with ER5's is their tendancy to dump fuel into the sump overnight . It could be that the damage started when the bike was run with petrol diluted oil in it and once the case hardening was broken the milder steel beneath started to wear away . Or it could simply be a faulty component which would be consistent with only one of them failing and there being no damage to the other three or the camshaft . Anyway looks like you've got yourself a decent spare engine once that's fixed . I reckon its had the fuel problem .. When I bought the bike there was a recent invoice for new fuel tap, carb clean, float needles, reset float height. oil change and filter. Whether that is the cause of the damage is anybody's guess.
  11. Just a brand name ..
  12. Are you going to use a new base gasket ? Head gasket yes , but a base gasket would probably be ok. Not much oil pressure behind it and it's metal so it won't have compressed . I haven't removed the barrels and as the bores look so good and the mileage is less than 9,000 I'm going to take a risk and assume the pistons are sound too! .. If it comes back and bites me on the arse then I'll know better next time!
  13. Couldn't wait 'till tomorrow .. So the head is off and the pistons and barrels look really good.
  14. I've got my eye on those .. They're 10 minutes down the road from me. I'll take the head off tomorrow and check the pistons and barrels to make sure there's nothing else wrong.
  15. F**k yeah ! What's the corresponding cam lobe like ? Surprisingly the cams are fine.
  16. I think this may be the problem that was causing the noise?
  17. I would imagine it would be the same as any non UK Licence holders coming here, ie their licence is valid for 12 months You wold, wouldn't you... Last year because of the exit, no exit kerfuffle I got the international licenses to ride to Portugal, needed 1 for Portugal and France and a different one for Spain. Last time I check there was no changes. They are still acquired at Post office for £5.50 each Strange! .. According to the Post Office IDP checker No International Driving Permit is required for Spain, France or Portugal! .. You should also only need one!
  18. I wouldn't hold your breath! ... We're no longer in the EU and the "proposed cbt changes" have been going on since 2016. The one I would like to see implemented is .. Training courses to upgrade motorcycle licences DVSA also wants your views on a proposal to introduce a training course that existing riders can take to upgrade their motorcycle licence, rather than having to take extra tests.
  19. 1) Difficult to say as it depends on the junction, speeds etc. 2) My instructor says do the shoulder checks at lights .. unless you've only just stopped and then the lights change. 3) Roll off the throttle and relax as you realize you've probably failed mod2.
  20. You'll need plenty of pot noodles! https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/316690/motorcycle-manoeuvring-area-multi-purpose-test-centre.pdf
  21. Today is a bad day for me. I have shed many tears! .. A very good friend of mine has just told me that she has terminal cancer and that this Christmas, if she makes it, will be her last. She is so strong and brave and has been an inspiration to so many people during her life. Tomorrow will be a better day.
  22. Not doing DAS, going straight for A1 (125cc), can't afford to do DAS and by the time i can my CBT will have expired, doing A1 is cheaper than CBT does not expire and can upgrade to full anytime in the future ( subject to doing another MOD 1 and 2 ) Its only cheaper if you pass! ... Bloody well make sure you do!
  23. I'm the same . I'm really struggling to get motivated at the moment . It isn't exactly depression because I'm reasonably cheerful . It's more like suppression . Yes, .. I'm not unhappy or sad .. Just down ... Probably just need the batteries changing!
  24. Well, I can say that this covid crap IS getting me down! .. I wouldn't class it as depression but I know I'm not the same. Sleep patterns disturbed, always tired and struggling to get motivated to do anything. I think its not knowing when things will get better and not really being able to plan things that's getting to me. Anyway, I'm lucky in that I'm retired and financially OK, so non of the worries that some of the younger ones have about redundencies etc. I know I'll be ok .. I just want to feel motivated to do things again.
  25. Another one going cheap? ... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/869320397231706/
