  1. Tell her you could almost double your money . It says the starter dosen't engage but it might be as simple as dirt in the starter motor itself . Either way you could easily get £900 + for this if it had no issues . You're going to get me into trouble!
  2. That's not true! .. You can book your own tests now! ... But slots are as rare as hens teeth! https://driverpracticaltest.dvsa.gov.uk/application?_ga=2.172855462.465283256.1600696866-1536756588.1593164909 I bookmarked the main page but as usual with dot gov sites not been updated so i might be able to get mine done by the end of the year afterall Plenty of test slots available at Rotherham.
  3. I spotted that .. 5/6 miles up the road from me and was tempted to make an offer. But wifey says I haven't got room for another one.

  5. You should think yourself lucky that you got a test! .. There are no Mod 1 slots available near me for the rest of this year! As soon as I can book one I'll book some DAS lessons.
  6. We've seen what you can do so .. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cc1MXQiHFhY/TN8fTdn-VSI/AAAAAAAAAAM/WkvhG4HV8Ws/s1600/oddballkellysheroes2T1.jpg
  7. This one has a better range ... https://electrek.co/2019/02/25/zero-sr-f-electric-motorcycle-launch/#:~:text=The%20SR%2FF%20electric%20motorcycle%20is%20now%20Zero%E2%80%99s%20fastest,such%20as%200-95%25%20charging%20in%20just%201%20hour. Here's a review ..
  8. I had mine done about 5 yrs ago(just one eye, probably as a result of an old rugby injury). Its quite simple and painless but not something I enjoyed having done. I got Posterior capsule opacity occur a 3 years later which is a complication of cataract surgery. 2 minutes of laser treatment at the local hospital soon sorted that out and no problems since. As you say driving at night with a cataract is scary but I'm ok now.
  9. Well done! ... Can't even book a test where I am.
  10. Took the noisy engine out of the ER5 yesterday and today replaced it with a spare. It runs and is quiet so that's a result .. doesn't seem to want to rev above 4,000rpm though. Looks like that will be tomorrows job trying to sort that out.
  11. Opening your visor at the lights etc wo'nt be a problem for your pinlock, they need ventilation to work efficiently. ..it may also help the Pinlock insert release the moisture it has absorbed and prevent it from saturating. https://pinlock.com/insert-lens-optimisation/
  12. Checked and set valve clearances on the ER5, cover back on and even figured out where all the pipes go. Just need a new jubilee clip for one of the petrol pipes then I'll start it up and see if the clatter is still there or not.
  13. Hi fastbob, what thickness flexoid did you use for your gaskets? I'm sorry , I don't know . I bought a selection pack and just used the thickness that felt right . No worries! .. Many years ago a guy I worked with used a cornflake box to make his gaskets.
  14. Cheers Bob, I’ll give it a go when I’m ready - the best place to buy decent gasket paper is? I just buy it off eBay , its called Flexoid Hi fastbob, what thickness flexoid did you use for your gaskets?
  15. Bingo! .. I can see it! .. Lodged itself on the cam chain so I should be able to pick it out with a magnetic tool. More shopping!
  16. The Nuremburg defence .. I was just following orders! https://www.manualslib.com/manual/375061/Kawasaki-Er-5.html?page=302#manual
  17. Thanks fastbob! .. I was hoping it would have gone to the sump(fingers crossed). I'm taking off the starter motor and I have to undo the chain guide screws. I don't have the correct size driver, mine are too big or too small so I need to buy one.
  18. I've set the valve clearances, the exhaust on number 2 was a little out, so I'll close up and see how it sounds now. I also had a disaster with my spare engine! .. While fiddling about some clumsy sausage fingered oaf(me) dropped a locating dowel which slipped past the cam chain and has gone down into the workings. Looks like I have to do a complete strip down to get it out! A couple of quick questions for those who know. 1: Are the screws on ER5's Phillips or JIS? 2: Can I fit the rocker cover with blanking plates and dump the pipes and gubbins that go with it?
  19. Finally! Got the rocker cover off. After another half hour jiggling it still wouldn't come off so if slackened te engine mounting bolts and supporting the engine on a jack removed the front bolt and lowered the jack a fraction. It may have given me 1 millimeter more room or just been psychological but the cover slipped out. Cams are sound and valve clearances don't appear excessive (can't check them properly as my son has nicked my feeler guages) Manual cam chain adjuster should arrive by the weekend. Time for a brew.
  20. Yep! Everything removed. Call it morbid fascination if you will , but I'm dying to see this ( alleged ) broken cam lobe . Oh by the way , if you decide to hand crank the engine it's CLOCKWISE which is somewhat counterintuitive . Well I still haven't got the cover off but I can see and feel the cam lobes! .. They're all good! When I eventually get the cover off I'll check the valve clearances but I can't think that one would be so far out as to make the racket that it does.
  21. Hopefully this is a daft question but you have removed the water pipes haven't you ? Yep! Everything removed.
  22. That's it! .. I've had enough! .. The engine is coming out! I don't care what the book says it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the rocker cover with the engine in the frame! I've spent over an hour wiggling and jiggling every which way and there is no way its coming out! Time for a beer!
  23. Bung it in but swap the alternator cover and clutch cover because they look nicer . Don't mess with the water pump cover for now . If that runs ok , buy a complete cylinder head off eBay , stick it on your original engine and smarten up the appearance at your leisure . Then flog it on eBay to get your money back . That sounds like a plan!
  24. Well I've not taken a look at the cams on the bike engine yet but as I strongly suspect a knackered lobe I picked up a spare engine. It's not pretty but it's a runner and the camshafts are in good nick. What to do? .. just bung it in? .. or swap the heads? If I was brave and had fastbobs talent and patience I would strip it and make it look pretty.
  25. I've just bought this 21 year old bike mainly to learn more about bike mechanics. I'm not the world best mechanic but my thoughts are if you can read and follow instructions then you should get by. If you hit a problem there's plenty of help and guidance on forums. Get yourself a manual for your bike and take plenty of photo's when you remove something so you know where it goes/comes from and you should be OK.
