Continued: adjusting idle speed to compensate for lean engine condition??
megawatt replied to potatobroxd's topic in Pitstop
It's dangerous to run an engine lean for long periods. Get it on a Dyno to establish air fuel ratios at different revs and get it remapped to suit. -
I use silicone on nuts or bolts that could come loose. Never had a problem.

What tools to keep on the bike
megawatt replied to dynax's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
A set of combination spanners, plug spanner, front and rear wheel spanners, set of Allen keys, screwdrivers, cable ties. If you have luggage capacity, a lithium jump starter, wd40, duct tape. -
Fair enough. It's probably not internal then, but if you replace cable and it's still not right, don't discount internal fault.

Back to the original problem. Has the clutch done a lot of miles? Could be wear in the clutch basket, causing the plates to snag. Needs stripping and the high spots removing from the basket.

Be careful spraying WD on sparks. I set my z1000 on fire doing that!!!

Passenger foot pegs
megawatt replied to Trentskywalker's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Could be one of those things when it's up to the tester, but yes I have spoken to someone who just took the pegs off, left brackets and seat on and failed mot. -

If you want to get it through an mot. You may need to remove pillion seat and put a cover on. Remove brackets as well. -
Give it away or sell it cheap. Not worth much with a short mot and 3 different keys.
-
Always used paraffin and never had a problem. I use Wurth spray.

Check seal that shaft goes through isn't being fouled by dirt or rust, if not it's the spring. Easy enough to access by removing clutch normally..

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

There's an ally washer there for a reason. If you put copper there, make sure you wash any salt off in winter or you'll lose your oil.

Always wanted to , since I watched Swallows and Amazon's. Sailed on bigger yachts , but never a dinghy.

Im totally hooked. Recorded the 2am screening and watched it at 0700 to avoid spoilers. Yes, it was confusing as mostly filmed in the dark. A lot going on , but couldn't see most of it. What an ending though. Some great characters are gone , but that's GoT. Wish i could work out how Arya appeared from nowhere, but she is a trained assassin. Sorry to lose Lyanna Mormont, but she was fearless as usual.

Try pulling the chain straight back from the 3 o clock position on the rear sprocket. If it lifts off more than 3mm it's fooked.

soft link broke when replacing chain and sprockets
megawatt replied to Fidgetgreen's topic in Pitstop
Most soft/ rivet links already have a dimple in the middle of the pin anyway? -

Yeah, why aren't those indentations in the middle of the pins? -
Never had a problem. Loads of service kits from loads of suppliers. No problems.. If it bothers you buy OEM parts from a main dealer, pay the extra for peace of mind. Better still, pay way over the odds and get them to do it. My experience is, I can do a better job, coz it's my bike and my life. Been doing it for 42 years and never had a problem.

I based myself in Lairg for a few days. Think there's 3 or 4 single track roads out of Lairg. Best route is head north to Tongue, turn left and do northwest Scotland to Ullapool and then head due East back to Lairg. Awesome.

As I said before, you won't bend or break the sidestand unless it's an aluminum one that's been abused. I know a guy that made his own Fireblade sidestand out of PLASTIC. The forces are almost all straight along the length of the sidestand, so there is no failure mechanism.
-
Only side stands that break are aluminium ones, as fitted to Ducatis. Mainly because the so called mechanics spin the bike around using the side stand.
