They wouldn't last long just doing gear changes never mind in an off imo you can get regular boot looking gear or even an old pair of doc martins or army boots would be better

I think the point Adam was trying to make is that you can knack your battery in by using jump leads from a car if the cars engine is running. It is safe to do it without the engine running though.
