  1. Nearly got knocked off my GSXR by a squirrel!! Edit, just realised this is an ancient thread and I'd already posted the video!! https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=776757#p776757

    Bike storage

Why is every so obsessed with draining the petrol out!? And leaving the tank open exposes the inside to damp air allowing surface rust to form. Keep some petrol in there and periodically slosh it about to coat the inside of the tank with petrol and help prevent surface rust.
  3. Haha but but but, that's not the way things are done anymore.. can't be expected to work stuff out!

    Bike storage

Why do people always say drain the fuel? Storing a bike with an empty tank is a great way to encourage the inside of your tank to rust. And starting a bike up weekly just generates condensation inside the engine/gearbox. Full tank, turn off the petrol tap if you have one, plug it into a trickle charger, stick a cover over it to prevent it getting dusty and leave it! Rotate the wheels occasionally if you don't want tyres flat spotting but even that's optional.
  5. Useful for weekends and holidays.. get one.
  6. Less than 6months old or more? Makes a big difference.. And how long is it taking to repair the helmet? Read this. https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act
  7. Setup android Family Link. I use it to restrict screen time etc on my daughter's Chromebook. You can use it for any android/chrome device.

Take a spare spark plug out with you. When it cuts out again, pull the plug cap off, insert the spare plug, hold it against the engine and check for a spark. Try not to shock yourself!
  9. Wind the preload up and see if you still bottom it out easily. If you do then you need stiffer springs. You want the suspension working in its optimal range which is why the sag setting is important. You've already said you're a big lad about twice the weight of the rider the bike was designed for so if you want optimal suspension it's unlikely the standard springs will be stiff enough.
  10. Ktech will be able to stick some stiffer springs on it. That will and a huge difference.
  11. Not saying this was an unsafe site, but the willingness to hand over sensitive information without question is what's interesting from an infosec point of view and your device you used to visit the site handed over far more information than you think
  12. Great thread that perfectly demonstrates how people are surprisingly trusting of websites just because they have been shared by people they know and happily supply sensitive information without questioning where it's going. From a infosec point of view it provides great insight into how to build a successful phishing site.
  13. I've got Bluetooth earbuds wired together with the mic part way down the wire instead of in the earbuds. You can position the mic close to your mouth so it hears what you're saying under the helmet. Also means they don't get lost as the wire goes around the back of my neck.
  14. Excellent way for bike criminals to collect a list of valid VIN numbers for cloning bikes...
  15. Start by setting maximum preload. You're a big lad and standard springs aren't designed for your weight especially when going fast! You can wind back from there, but I'd be surprised if you can even set the sag correctly given its a standard bike with heavy rider. I like my suspension quite stiff when going quickly, but you might not..

So I take it dont need to apply for a totally useless for touring Revolut card no doubt it has its uses If all you buy is petrol from prepaid pumps and food from easyJet, I'd hardly call that touring!! Revolut gives you real bank accounts in multiple currencies so if you know you're going to a specific country and expect the exchange rates to move against you, you can load up your account in the local currency before the FX rates move. Or you can just use it to spend close to the current interbank spot rate with zero fees and no massive spreads like most zero fee cards charge.. I loaded my EUR and DKK accounts up with cash a few months back before GBP dropped so when in Denmark or Euro zone I can spend at the exchange rate as it was a few months back instead of today. I was in Switzerland last month so moved money from one of my other accounts to my CHF account as the rate was better than from GBP to CHF. And I was in Portugal and Spain last week spending money from my Revolut EUR account and saved money using the exchange rate from a few months ago instead of the current pathetically low GBP/EUR exchange rate. I also use my Revolut USD account for payments to US companies. Again making use of favourable exchange rates and zero fees. Lots of other benefits too. Worth a look

I use Revolut https://www.revolut.com/ card for all my international transactions, but it wont work at french petrol stations (pay at pump) and EasyJet wont accept it onboard the plane (but i can pay them in sterling). I started using it here in the UK for daily spending too because the phone app is good for seeing your spending.
  18. Thrash it, blow the engine, and demand a new bike.. Better that it blows up early on in your warranty period than after.
  19. Still sounds a lot of money. Did you insure for limited mileage to bring it down further?
  20. If you're convinced bit won't get nicked from your secure garden, some people just tell them it's in a garage to bring the premium down.
  21. Transport for London (TFL) did a study on motorbikes in buslanes. Their recommendation was to allow motorbikes into all buslanes to reduce motorcycle deaths. Then the London Cyclists Committee got involved and despite there being no evidence that motorcycles in buslanes increased the danger for cyclists, they successfully campaigned to have motorcycles banned from bus lanes. So not only are streets being made narrower to accommodate Cyclelanes (making filtering for motorbikes more dangerous), the cyclists are also laying claim to the bus lanes of London. So much for "sharing the roads" it's a blatant land-grab with no consideration for biker deaths. Expect the same result to happen where you are as councils continue to pander to every cyclist demand.
  22. Could you have positioned yourself between the back of the wide load and the rear escort van just to p1ss them off? And ridden slower than the wide load to make sure they had to drop back even further?? Pretty sure deliberately blocking you like that would have been illegal
  23. Was getting worried these weren't going to be mentioned! I bought a Kreiga bag on a whim before two weeks in France on the bike. One of the BEST things I've ever bought for biking. Has a inner waterproof bag (Great for the unpredictable weather), designated pouch to put in a water bladder if you want (which on the hotter days is Sooo nice ) and so comfy, even for long periods of time which I've really struggled with in the past. Massively happy with mine, So worth the extra cost. Edit: This was the one I bought. But they have a good range. R30 - same as mine. Fantastic bit of kit
  24. I've got a Kreiga rucksack and its great, but riding any distance with a rucksack on its crippling for your back.
  25. Not really. They only go as fast as you tell them to go so it makes no difference what you ride if you're sensible. If you're not sensible then it still makes no difference because you can just as easily hurt yourself on a smaller bike.
