Been playing with possible luggage mounting options for an upcoming trip. The brand it Rhinowalk, which I really cannot fault for the price, time will tell how water proof it really is. Option one is using the bag mount system with a 20l bag either side, or option two is a possible single 20l bag on the pillion.

I test rode option one on some twisties and motorway and did not have any rubbing marks on the underside of the mounting. The fount mounting goes to the footrest plate, which being a little sharp on the inside, I used some cable pipe held with insulation tape.

Option two just lightly rests against my back, which was only a tshirt at the time. So by the time I've got my jacket with spine protector, I'm not sure if I'll get annoyed with it.

I would have the weight either side. It'll give better stability, and make cornering easier.

Had a hoopoe on board this morning. Hopefully made it to wherever he was going.

Saw a hoopoe at Sea Palling on Norfolk coast, rather grand figure to see, hope like you say @S-Westerly it gets where it's going, too nice not to

We quite regularly get them in our garden from May onwards.  They fairly kick up a racket when they're courting.

This weekend there's no advanced bike course, but we do have a viewing on Fiddlesticks towers.  Other than that, I'll try and carve out an hour to replace the clutch fluid on the Explorer. Maybe even pull the suspension linkage apart and re-grease it all.

Then over to East Yorks (Humberside, in old money) for a meal in memory of her mum who passed this time last year.

Another little task just came to light for the weekend...

Bathroom hand basin suddenly started taking a lot longer to drain.  No probs, pull the trap and clear it out.  Plinth removed and we get a look at the trap.

Whoever fitted it had the old silicone sealer fetish.  Great.  Everything on the trap glued together with 20 plus year old, turning brown colour silicone, even the plastic nut threads.

Out with the water pump pliers and a tousle with the offending nut.  Off it came in the end, but is a bit chewed up.  Cleaned horrible grey slimy shit out of trap and cleaned the silicone off as best as I could, but clearly I need to order a new one.  Silicone left on basin drain threads are ensuring the nut will not tighten more than moderately hand tight without slipping.  Nevertheless, I gave it a try..

Drip, drip.  Where is it coming from?  Yup nut is not tight enough and despite oodles of ptfe tape on gasket face, no dice.

In addition, we now have another leak from the plughole.  Nut is also glued on with silicone....    Must have disturbed it trying to get the trap off.  So removed the basin outlet.  Much silicone smeared everywhere...  New outlet required.  Had to get all medieval with it to get the nut undone. It is a plastic part, so cannot wire brush it and it is damaged now in any case.

I finally finished swearing.  How is it that a simple 10 minute job always ends up as a run around the houses?

So tomorrow I am under the sink trying to pull the pipework apart and hoping he has not siliconed the slip on fittings too.

How it usually works for me is remove a bit of pipe, to find the pipe its connected to bodged, I remove that, then find that is also bodged, so pull apart the boxing in, to get at that bit of pipe, to find the one going through the house wall is bodged up and I am chiselling out mortar.

From a simple 10 minute clean out of a basin trap to a fairly involved operation replacing every pipe leading to the outside drain...  And several trips to the hardware store.

Yup.  That is my life.  Did I ever mention how lucky I am?

You're lucky that you know what you're doing.

Some folk would have to spend a fortune on a plumber.

I like using a plunger, I recently discovered that the upward (suck) action on a plunger actually clears so much quicker than the downward stroke. Basin filled with water, of course.

Going to a nice restaurant tomorrow for all 4 course dinner. In the past 3 years I’ve been introduced to the pleasures of fine dining by my lad who’s an assistant restaurant manager at a wine estate. His job’s also his passion so since he started working there we have gone to a restaurant every month for a treat, taking turns to pay. We went halves at a Michelin star, that was only fair I suppose. My personal favourite is Fallow in central London. Love it there.

After our meal tomorrow, we’re off to the cinema to see the 20th anniversary of Shaun of the Dead. How’s that for a slice of fried gold? 😀

I took a Yam MT09 AMT out for a demo ride. The manual gear change bottons took a little while to get used to, but once I put it in auto mode it did most of it quite well. The downshifts were smooth, but the up shifts however have a noticable power cut and coming onto a motorway from a roundabout with the bike lent over the gear change unsettled the bike a fair bit. Hopefully they sort that out.

Would I own one, not really.

That’s why I save up watch motorbike racing for the staying in/grounded days.

women’s racing fills an hour or so ,great racing with so many nationals attending only wishing it gains real traction, with more laps and tracks attending .

Bsb and wsbk fills those needing more filling days (I don’t bother with MotoGP).

while world endurance bikes fills up winter time quite well.😅

Not the weekend - weekends are kinda irrelevant when you’re retired.

Currently scything one of the (under development) wildflower areas of the garden. It’s quite tricky being on a steep sloping part of the garden, and exhausting. I’m not particularly adept at the skill but it’s most satisfying when you get it right - about 5% of the time. 😂

Not strictly the weekend, but tomorrow I am going to look at a bike with a view to a potential purchase.

I’ve spent ages looking  for a reasonably priced example, there is nothing but overpriced tat on eBay ( eg why is the silver swinging arm painted black, why is there a missing hand guard, why are all the fixings rusty ) etc etc & dealers are asking more than my budget:

Finally,  after asking fellow TRF members for advice, one of them said he’s giving it up & offered me what I’m looking for at a good price and decent condition.:.. watch this space

Brilliant! I used to love scything my wee bit of land in Northumberland before I moved down south. It is very therapeutic and calming and without the annoying noise from lawn mowers. I really wish I had some grass to scythe nowadays. I miss it!

It’s also knackering when you’re doing it on a steep slope. Still, not much more to do.
