Final quote for BMW service - (32k miles hasn't been serviced since 21k) unfortunately has  to be dealer because all the mechanics in my area have waiting lists of weeks, and my rear tyre is right above the legal limit at about 1.7/8mm

It's gonna be an expensive monday.

Have you tried Eric at ECM in Worthing? He’s a well respected bmw independent mechanic. There’s also Podge & Steve at SBS motorcycles in Lancing. Both have websites.

If you’re up for a ride, I can recommend Ed at Bavarian Bikes near Godalming. He’s the only person I’d trust with my bike when I can’t do the work myself.

Edit. I can see you already  got those answers on the GSer forum 😀

You're correct - unfortunately ECM does not take F series and SBS had a bit of a waiting list at this time of year 🙃 - might look into bavarian bikes for the next one

Dragged the 380 out into the sunlight and got it ready for the Rugby bike fest tomorrow. Fired up after the 4th kick and went over the tyres, brakes, chain, oil levels etc. Stripped the front brake down, they are pretty useless at the best of times, so need to keep it in tip-top order. Gave it a good clean.

Will have owned it for 28 yrs in a couple of weeks.

Went for a ride to the Old Stores to use up the rest of the fuel, then took the tank off to replace the air filter and fix the six pin light connector.

Messy job, managed to catch most of the petrol. Air filter no problem, but replacing the connector is proving tricksome. They're fiddly little beggars.

Makes me think how the fancy new Tiger we saw at Chester Triumph on the way home would be nice. Three year warranty... Hmmm...

Now that’s a blast from the past, one of my best childhood friends had one of them, from new. Late 1970s.  He thought it was the bees knees. After a couple of years he traded it or sold it and bought a Meriden Triumph, which promptly put him in hospital after launching him head first through his dads garage roof!!

it looks like a very basic and crappy

frequency adjustment, if it was a fork lift truck it would be for different doors to open but if its a bike then id say its a richment adjuster at the airbox side.....

where does the wire go?

if it splits between the air box sensor and the ecu then it is a enrichment enhancer, if not tell us where its connected to then we can say more...

Got it now, I had to take out the battery and fairings but it's attached  to an automatic chain oiler on the bike so I assume the dial increases the amount of oil

Attempted fitting a scottoiler.

Given up until their support can help.

Bike out of action unless I want to waste a load of scottoil trying

to remove it all until they do reply.

Absolute nightmare.

Cleaned corrosion from the microswitch on the front brake lever. Brake lights more worky now.

Also refitted the tank after sorting the corroded light connector. There's a theme developing here..

A bit of heat shrink on the wire to the spotlights replacing the messy wraps of electrical tape.

Last job, new rear pads.

Test ride to Southport to watch the sunset. Now relaxing in Westherspoons as its the only place serving food this late.

Fitted a centre stand but I'm really struggling to get one of the springs(inner) on as it seems much shorter than the outer spring!

Is that outer spring supposed to be the inner spring?

No insult intended, but just a thought....

I'm not sure how I could get a large diameter spring inside a spring with a smaller diameter! ;)

They look like these but the inner spring I have is about 5/10mm shorter than the outer.

Lol.

I thought you meant inner spring was inside /underneath the stand , and the outer was outside/to the side?

Stronger spring to assist pulling the bike up, and the other spring to keep the stand retracted under the bike when not in use?

I don't understand why you would have one spring inside the other.

Nothing to the bike… but I made a slight upgrade to my newly rented council garage - needs 8 more of these sheets but I think it looks good.

anyone has any other tips besides more security? This place is pretty filled with insects and spider webs.

Service  done at BMW dealer - they did a further check

- Front brake pads need replacing

- Headraces very notchy so also need replacing

Will go to the local for that as they are wanting to charge me 192 to replace front brake pads and 300 for the headraces.

Last night. Nothing. I was intending to do quite a lot. As the bikes stood for 3 months. Check tyre pressures. Start the engine, fully warmed up. Pre MOT checks and so on. Instead I made the mistake of having a nap (after a difficult night shift) and next thing I knew it’s 02:30am.

Oh well.. never mind.

And of course it’s tipping it down with rain today - all day. So all I’m going to do is check the tyre pressures before attempting to set off for the MOT and trust to luck.
