Joe85 Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Apparently *pinch of salt* there’s a wider issue with people struggling to get insured on the new GS, because BMW haven’t released certain details to insurers to slow them to appropriately price insurance. FFS. 1 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 I did notice it wasn't on price comparison websites a couple of weeks ago. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Really??? I mean they know how much it costs and its not really that much different to the old one.... now if bm put a super or turbo charger, nos, carbon wheels with weird custom tyres, carbon brakes, super suspension tech, trick swing arm as std then id be thinking fair enough. Yeh, seems unlikely. And I looked at the GS forums and no one seems to be whinging about it. Quote
Joe85 Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) Been riding a BMW F900R on loan from Arden Tunbridge Wells. Very cheeky little middleweight. You can’t be the sound of a twin, either. Rather impressed, actually. would make an excellent first bike. Edited December 5, 2023 by Joe85 Quote

FFS. Took me three days to get a quote on the CRF because I made the mistake of going ‘yes, that’s my bike although it’s not because it’s not called that’…and expecting them to agree. I can only guess everyone else with a post-‘20 DCT base model has been technically uninsured because it’s only now featuring on underwriter’s screens because I kicked off about it. 1 Quote

I remember seeing posts about this at the time. The answer that seemed to work for a lot of new owners was to use the signifier, rather than the name. So, for your bike that would be (I believe) CRF1100D2-L with or without the dash. It came to a point that some insurers, or rather the underwriters recognised this new model. and some did not. So, they lost the business. Of course such is the way these pirates work. if you simply stay with your current insurer for a new bike, they will charge you more. Switching generally leads to a 'new business' discount. Which is why I switch almost every year, though not last year as my very reasonable premium went down to become even more reasonable. which was a good enough excuse to stay put. Quote

Dual clutch transmission.” ”So it’s not a CRF1100D2-L then.” *cue hair pulling and gnashing of teeths 1 Quote
Fish Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Well the Optimate didn't help me, so went and got a new battery. 1 Quote

That matched your bike. you were asking for insurance for a DCT - letters that do not exist in the signifier. which the insurer wasn't seeing. and risked chipping a tooth because of it. OK. Fortunately tonight I am back with the rampaging schizophrenics. so a distraction from any further attempt to get my head wrapped around this. 1 Quote

Imagine that conversation extended to 5 minutes, four times on Day 1 to different people, once on Day Two and twice on the third. All because I made the mistake of mentioning DCT. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Today I signed on the dotted line for a new Moto Guzzi v100 Mandello S. Should take the keys on December 14th. Had a test ride today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Frasers of Gloucester were the dealer and were really helpful unlike Ducati Worcester. Went there this morning to ask about a V2S. First off they wouldn't do a part exchange. Okay I thought I can work around that but the kicker was the earliest day I MIGHT get a bike was in July 2024. I made my excuses and left. Frasers gave me a decent trade in for my bike which given its 2018, close to 27,000 miles and not concourse condition I was more than happy with. Christmas comes early for me! 8 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Much like Joe I was shocked by my insurers. I was paying a tad over £300 for the Multistrada. For the Guzzi Bennetts quoted me firstly over a £1000! They then negotiated down to £850. I went elsewhere and got it for just under £500. Bloody blood suckers. Quote

Joe85 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Picked up the 1300 GS today. Didn't really get to have a good ride as I just wanted to get home before the rain so can apply the XCP without having to give it a deep clean. Also removed the central locking pannier rack thingys, never gonna use that. Also, the blind spot detection thing really does make the rear end look awful, it pokes right out. I'm afraid that's gonna have to go in the bin in favor of a tail tidy. 4 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Removed all the bits I wanted to keep and cleaned the chain etc. for the last time! Hooray. 3 Quote
Joe85 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Something else i've noticed is the GS doesn't appear to be comp[atible with the Abba Skylift or superbike stand, which is a bit shit. Quote
Joe85 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Also, I picked Gold wheels and I’m regretting it. Quote
