No relatives till boxing day, with gammon cooked, found the drive unit retainer in shed, last place it should have been, reassembled front wheel and with weather mild and roads empty, we went out for a long ride, success the speedometer is working brilliantly, with no one about and  the roads drying out, had a stress free ride and so much wildlife to see on fields, lamp posts etc, was great time, very satisfying to finally solve the speedometer problem, the drive unit retainer was very damaged but dust plug came out in very good condition so no need for ordering, good day all round

That's awesome, a Happy Christmas!

One of my 10W safego spotlights gave up the ghost

Luckily I had bought a spare set with the amber lens :-)

So disconnected the old ones and connected the new ones and headed out for a jolly for an hour or 2 while the weather was good :-)

Lovely stuff, was it wet? It's been drizzly here all day.

Both spots are dead on my Explorer. They seemed to both get dim, then stop working. They're aftermarket ones wired into the battery. It's not the fuse, as the switch lights up. I'm guessing the switch itself might be dodgy.

You could try bypassing the switch if it is not difficult to access

The switch I installed on the 500X is a bit of a pig you had to move the headlight to get it in :-(

My cunning plan was to go for a jolly this morning on the bike. This miserable effing weather has put a stop to that. I completely detest the average winter weather in the UK.  It's not fit for anything except making mud pies. At least with proper winter weather you can do proper winter sports but this crap we have isn't even any good for "traditional " British winter sports. They're all better when played in conditions other than miserable dank gloomy crap. Did I mention i hate this shit!

Well, I was all set today to pull the drive shaft and replace both the oil seal to the gearbox, and the one to the rear transfer case. Having peeled back the rubber gator to check, I decided the few drops of oil that had collected in there in the last 3 or 4 months didn't warrant the effort. (Never do today what can be reasonably put off until tomorrow.)

Instead, I changed the oil and filter, dug out the old Windows laptop to reset the service indicator, and checked the throttle bodies while it was connected. They were all 69/70 which was good.

Then onto the spots, a new led switch sorted the power out, but the connector to the left hand side one was loose. Snipped it out and crimped / heatshrinked the wires. Bit of a hack, but didn't have a spare connector handy. The chances are the spots will outlive the bike.

Next time round should really be a valve service, so I might draft in some help and do the shaft seals at the same time.

First ride of the new year yesterday. What started out as nice ride on empty roads turned into a nightmare as it absolutely pissed down.

Took a peek under the cover for the first time since November and yes it's still there! Seriously though, in November I attached an Oxford Solariser to the battery (it sits in the front of my Stormex cover) and it started up like a good 'un today so it appears to be doing the job. I would have taken it for a little run, but to be honest I would have had to dress up like Nanook of the North and couldn't be arsed.

Bike is undergoing warranty repair- defective water pump / thermostat housing. Expecting delivery of part by end of week. Given weather this is not too depressing as my little road was sheet of black ice this morning and I went arse over tip just seeing what it was like. Loan bike is not getting much use! No heated grips and nowhere to plug in heated gear so not riding much. Next week I'm on a training course so won't be riding then either.

Collected it from Frasers after service and warranty work. It's so nice to get it back and the heated grips make a massive difference. Had a short bimble but roads are full of crap so not as nice as it may have been.

I'll be out tomorrow afternoon assuming this stupid course finishes the same time as today.  I'll be out on Thursday and Friday too but the latter is because I've a medical to do up in Brum. Making hay while sun shines (or not) as office has confirmed I'm back to sea around 30th January.

Was out today. Went down to Somerset but the roads are filthy! I ended up being barely able to see due to muck over my visor. The ride home in the dark was challenging.

Same here. Simple one hour trip each way, mostly motorway. The bike was properly cacked up when I got home. It's all the grit from last week's icy weather.

Still, I enjoyed getting the bike out.

I haven't ridden her for well over a month, so I Had a 1/2 hour each way trip to J&S planned to buy summer boots, but feared I may end up with a shitty ride like the chaps above.

So pulled her out, after a fair bit of winding over she started and I let her get up to temperature. Turned the fuel off, let the remaining petrol in the carb's run out to a splutter then engine off.

That'll do until the roads are dry.

I took the car, and I was so glad I did, the roads were absolute shite, wet, greasy, and gravel all over the place, not to mention salt.

Some little angels, ,who have never done anything wrong, and are perfectly well behaved, if their parents were to be believed, decided that since they couldn't nick my bike, as it had a disk lock on the front and a chain through the back, they would instead kick it over out of spite.

They scarpered in every different direction upon seeing me coming, and more than a few choice phrases were yelled at the top of my lungs.  Only damage done was a bent clutch lever.  Managed to get a new lever, and have it fitted, within an hour of it happening so take that, you delightful little angels!  Your attempts at spiting me are naught but a minor inconvenience that cost me a mere tenner to fix!

I then went to the beach and had coffee to calm me down.

Bendy clutch and beach pictured below.  I'll leave you to figure out which is which.
