Ebike maker Sondors this week unveiled its first electric motorcycle, the $5,000 Metacycle. If that attractive price makes you want to go straight out and buy, well, patience. The Metacycle isn’t expected to ship until the fourth quarter of 2021. In the meantime, a $100 deposit (refundable up to 90 days) secures a place in line with the consumer-direct brand.

The Metacycle is powered by an 8kWh rear hub motor (peaking at 14.5kWh and 4,000Wh lithium-ion battery to deliver a top speed of 80 mph and, according to Sondors, up to 80 miles of range. The battery fully charges in about four hours, according to Sondors.

“The Sondors Metacycle is the newest extension of our mantra of ‘Electric for Everyone,’” company founder Storm Sondors said in a release. “It was a clean-sheet-of-paper design where we considered how to make the best electric motorcycle for people who need an affordable, attractive transportation solution. We didn’t design this bike for enthusiasts, or racers, or people who want a third or fourth toy in the garage. It’s a fun, easy solution for real people who want to enjoy getting on the road every day.”

The frame is a single piece of cast aluminum, which Sondors says is a first for the industry. It also includes a smartphone compartment with a transparent cover ahead of the saddle to read navigation information while keeping the phone safe and juiced up thanks to wireless charging. Sondors calls it the “exo-frame.”

The lightweight frame, hollowed out where a motor would reside on a traditional gas-powered moto, as well as an aluminum swingarm contribute to the Metacycle’s feathery 200-pound curb weight, making the streetbike highly approachable for newcomers to throttle-twisting, including riders already accustomed to high-powered beyond-class ebikes.

Detailed specs were not immediately available, but the Metacycle is equipped with single disc brakes front and rear, a coil rear shock, an inverted fork with rebound and compression adjustment, and an ergonomic saddle.

Chapter than some electric push-bikes.

As for looks, like it or not bikes and cars are going look different as the electric thing comes in.

Well I've timed my birth exactly right then . When the " Electric thing comes in " I'll be too old to give a shit . So everybody with a real motorbike , don't put that trip off or stay at home because the sky is a bit grey . Get out there , fill up with petrol and make every mile and every year you have left count . Ride your bike before the Greta's take it off you . This is the end of days for the motorcycle and I don't need reminding of it by having these ugly , sterile contraptions shoved in my face .

It's not the end @fastbob, I expect fairly soon that someone of some influence will discover that electric vehicles are nett less fuel efficient that the stuff we chug about in now.
