onesea Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Seriously looking at getting a pair for me and my misses. Any recommendations cheap, fit and forget auto on off, motion sensor for when parked would be nice. Not looking for name and shame quality, just this is what happened. The driving round here is dire in the last 2 weeks: Two idiots crossing junction at 40mph not looking, 4x4 deciding to pull out into on coming traffic to pass donkey on his side of road - I stopped so he had to pull back on his side of the road, slowed right down then gave me in abuse for going to fast! Having slowed to let on coming traffic through gap, had the car behind try and over take (he terrified on coming traffic and had to reverse down high street), Countless cars pull out of side roads and parked car on there side of road - I am coming through like it or not, Don’t even mention cyclists, who I will no longer overtake unless I can literally be on the other side of road, Oh and the ever fun car over taking cyclists on a blind bend, Quote
manxie49 Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 My wife has a Blackvue front and rear camera in her car, it was in the car when we bought it. Good camera though, picture quality is spot on, it also switches itself on and records if someone bumps the car when you're not there. Not sure how much they are but it is good kit. They are a good idea in the case of an accident. A lot of people seem to fit them over here then become "dash cam warriors", always amuses me, they post videos of other peoples wrong doings and expect everyone else to think they're perfect . 1 Quote
Steve_M Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I have rarely considered having one, but having moved to a rural location with all routes home via narrow roads, the number of cars drivers, in particular, who can’t judge the left of their vehicle or cut RH bends leaving little room for a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. It is making me consider buying one. Quote
SometimesSansEngine Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 We have a nextbase one that uses one of the add a fuse thingies, so turns on and off with the car. Overwrites the oldest footage as necessary. Never had any cause for complaint with it. It's always been there just in case, there's mini roundabout near our house where people constantly cut it at speed and if you were there a second before would have reworked the front of your car. After yet another close call I wanted it to make the insurance case easier to prove they were on my side of the road and flew in Quote
Bender Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Just beware some record and embed your speed in the data I need to get one, things I come across in the van is just mad, had a loon trying to reverse into me twice last week on purpose Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I had an expensive one that recorded your GPS position and speed. Good quality picture but it broke quite soon after it was out of warranty. I bought a RAC one for £15 which is ok but not brilliant. For my wife's car, after two people ran into the back of her whilst she was stationary at traffic lights, I got an Apeman off Amazon. Really impressed with it for the price. Doesn't do GPS or record your speed, but it does everything else and picture quality is very good. 1 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Just now, Bender said: Surly they not recording speed is a bonus. Yes. Though some people think there are advantages to being able to prove your speed in some circumstances, it wasn’t a feature I particularly felt necessary. I'm happy with the Apeman because it’s cheap and does what I need. If it breaks it’s not a huge loss, as opposed to the expensive one I had previously. 1 Quote

Just been looking at them, can get a dual camera, 2k front HD rear for just under 90 Quote
Throttled Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Running a couple of Nextbases. Very good picture and features, even with basic models. Just watch out for the bump facility, that switches on if it detects movement. It flattened one car's battery by thinking closing its door was the car being bumped into. Quote
