I posted about this before. Maybe a year or so ago. And almost exactly the same thing happened again this morning. On the same stretch of road. Travelling in the opppsite direction this time … so I exited a roundabout on to the A1 relief road near Boroughbridge. Passed a police traffic car parked up. At about 55 ish. So the police vehicle pulled out behind me. And then pulled over into the other lane. Facing any oncoming traffic. There wasn’t any at that time. I thought he was going to overtake. But he just sat there. Just off my rear quarter. For probably quarter a mile. Same as before. And instead of overtaking just pulled in behind me again … my best guess is that he thought he had positioned himself in my blind spot. And was expecting me to nail it. … I was quite expecting to get pulled over but didn’t. … does seem weird. To have happened twice now. And I’m a very staid motorcyclist

I cant speak for what happened with Police but do know that it was on that roundabout by Boroughbridge 5 years ago my wife got 3 points for going 37 in a 30!!

She didn't know it had been changed, as it was always a 40 before that

Yes. There is a lot of police activity around that area. There was a speed camera vehicle nearby as well

Could be on a driving school practicing following and overtaking positions like in roadcraft possibly?

Possibly. I was expecting him to pull me over. And I was going to ask him why he did that. And tell him it was a dangerous manoeuvre. Just as well he didn’t stop me. Unlikely to have ended well for me!

If you have a look in roadcraft it's a big part of police driving/riding its all about progress between hazards etc

You’re probably right. Just weird it has happened to me twice now. On the same stretch of road

ANPR CHECKS ....They do it all time ...

Yes. But it isn’t just following me I’m talking about. Actually crossing over into the other lane behind me. I think I’m on the right lines that they think they are positioned in my blind spot.

Do you know. I did actually once berate a police driver for their driving. Very stupid I know. But it was back in 1994. I had a 125 and had done my CBT and was commuting from Essex to Camden for my teaching job. So one day I was badly cut up on the Gants Hill roundabout on the A12. By a police traffic car. I was enraged. They had nearly knocked me off. I pulled over in the stationary traffic. And berated this police officer at his window for cutting me up. To be fair, he apologised and said either we both go to Barkingside Police Station and you make a complaint. Or we just leave it. I wisely said we just leave it … when I was back on the bike I did realise what an idiot I had been for moaning at a police driver. I was very lucky I didn’t end up the loser

If you've done nothing wrong, and are 100% legal, then you have nothing to fear.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after me.

Yes. To be honest it did reinforce my confidence in the police that they are the good guys. He immediately apologised … on reflection though I did think I had acted as an idiot by challenging them

The old Great North Road which parallels the modern A1/M is quite often used by naughty people for fun. I've seen a few camera vans on it over the years and I often use it when I'm bored to tears with the A1 and I'm going to / from Barnard Castle. There's often more of a police presence on that road than on the A1.

Police or not, in uniform or not, they have no special rights regarding using a public highway to anyone else, if they drive dangerously get their badge number and report them.

I had a sticked that said - Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
