Ross99 Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Hi I went past a SPECS average speed camera today and noticed 4 small black boxes one on top of the other all at slightly different angles on a post about 20-30 yards in front of it and wandered if they were additional cameras? The camera didn’t have an IR box directly next to it on the overhead pole so wondered if they were IR floodlights for image capture? EDIT…I should have said Vector not SPECS as the vector ones don’t have the incorporated IR sensor Edited November 27, 2023 by Ross99 Quote
Bender Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Could be infra red could be microwave traffic counters. Quote
Ross99 Posted November 26, 2023 Author Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Thanks, anyone else know what they are? Edited November 26, 2023 by Ross99 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Specs dont need additional kits, pretty much works in all conditions including fog. Most likely what bender said or emissions/noise monitoring is another possible. Quote

Bender Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 The AI cameras will hopefully catch loads of folks on phones. They are also starting to creep out separate speed sensors that work with the camera and sensors to catch you speeding before the camera and also acceleration after the camera, data is all collected along with a nice pic of you from the camera. Sound limit enforcement will also be expanding. Then soon a terminator will be waiting at home for you to take all your money and blow up your bike or car. The futures bright, the futures orange 2 2 Quote
Guest Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 My bike can't go over 30mph so even I wanted to get caught I can't go fast enough. Quote
Pie man Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Its about time cameras like these are actually put to good use instead of unscrupulously used as a revenue collector. Due to the amount of car crime where I live, we have campaigned for surveillance/CCTV cameras located at certain access and exit routes in the area. Both the police and local council are not interested. We have a large neighbourhood watch group on Whatsapp and now share Ring door bell footage and other home CCTV footage whenever someone reports an attempt or theft of a car etc. So far, the evidence we have provided has lead to one arrest. We report every incident to the police (for what it is worth) however, in doing so, my house and car insurance has doubled you couldn't make this shit up. 3 Quote

S-Westerly Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 I noticed during g my recent ride up to Northumberland and back that there seems to be more of an effort suppressing any kind of speedy progress. So much managed motorway where all 4 lanes chug along at 65, cameras all over the place and increasing numbers of mobile speed cameras on bridges over motorways. Really makes m'ways even more of a drag. At least in Germany on most autobahns you can go as fast as you dare and make progress. 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Well im surprised they haven't shoved the emissions side argument of that yet (all doing a slower speed) just to enforce it and push aside the possibility its not revenue driven. Quote

We have the clean air zone coming too and that is all revenue driven, all in the name of sustainability, of what I might ask. Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Sustainability- in the modern parlance wtf is that supposed to mean? The parent company (Swedish) of the group I work for put out a group wide directive about "Sustainability" which having read it left me completely in the dark and clueless about its point. I got the idea it was to do with the weather getting a bit warmer and that more vegetarian meals would be a good idea. Try telling that to some crusty old seamen plus trying to have fresh veg on a 45 day sea passage isn't practical. Reckon they've employed the Swedish gnome St. Greta. 2 Quote

RideWithStyles Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 (edited) And they are seriously arsey about enforcing it too, let alone the coppers lacking normal human empathy face to face... so you can face the dreaded brown envelope like the rest of us. Gerontious Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 I went to Wales last weekend and I saw no difference. 20mph signs in the villages. but there's nothing new about that, well not for me anyway. they have been totally normal In Das Eifel for a number of years. Speed limits were unchanged otherwise. much ado about nothing. Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 I go at the posted limit in towns and villages. Might not agree with 20 mph but in a lot of Europe they've had 30 kph in villages for years. NSL I tend to take a chance on. 1 Quote
