This is the Loire at Anger. You can see just how high it is. Obviously Climate Catastrophie ! A rather elegant wee But 'n Ben on the riverside . I'l bet they're hoping that there's no more rain ! My trusty old Yamaha TDM 850, now officially a " Moto de Collection" and exempt from any ULEZ crap....at least here ? Did my Munro bagging in winter … some epic days … and no midges … took me 3 winters with RAF Leuchars Mountain Rescue Team … 2 Quote

Steve_M Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 I had a little jaunt up past Kielder and return home via Hermitage Castle and Langholm Moor. Some interesting roads and some “interesting” roads ridden with fine views pretty well throughout. Note. Finding an open tea room or coffee stop around Kielder was a challenge. The only available stop was a burger van type outlet by the castle. 3 Quote
Gerontious Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 I do like it when the zumo just says “road” - it can turn out, occasionally, to be quite exciting especially when we have different ideas on what actually constitutes a road. 1 Quote

There's never been anything at Hermitage or much down Liddesdale until you get to Canonbie. Quote

Then the visitor centre, which was also closed. Having had a cuppa at Kielder Castle I intended to stop in Newcastleton but gave it a miss as it’s less than 20 miles home. 1 Quote

Yup. I quite enjoy ambling around the single track roads such as those past Hermitage Castle or over Langholm Moor. The road past our house appears as “road” on the Garmin yet is wide enough for two vehicles to pass. Quote
S-Westerly Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Rode it north but God I hate motorways. Endless roadworks with average speed 50 for mile upon mile. Variable speed limit motorways with cameras every 3 miles or so and absolutely dense traffic with effing idiots in lanes 2 and 3 going 50 - 60 mph or in the 2 lane sections trucks trying to overtake at what seems like a metre per mile. Then there's the filtering for when everything goes stationary or nearly so and the knobs who try and squeeze you out. 5 hours riding and 2 x 30 min stops to recover slightly. Get to do it allagain on Sunday when I come south but going down the west side as I'm totally hacked off with the A1M etc. 1 3 Quote

Gerontious Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) I gave it a wash and rather than faff about I’ve taken it out to blow dry proper like.. currently down by the Trent and it’s rather pleasant for 8:25 on a Sunday evening. Little 10 mile round on one of my favourite local routes thru some very posh villages. I think its dry now. Edited June 30, 2024 by Gerontious 3 Quote

S-Westerly Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Rode it home - according to Tomtom it was 301 miles and 6h 37m riding. Average speed 45 and max "ahem". The first bit through the Pennines to Kirkby Lonsdale and Devil's Bridge was pretty good, not too much traffic. Was going to have a brew at the Bridge but it was rammed with bikes so didn't bother stopping. Next bit- A683 - to Lancaster used to be really good. Alas no more as it is covered with average speed check cameras and most of it is 50 mph or less. Then it got worse. The M6 was awful so ended up filtering for damn near 30 miles. Followed 3 loud Harleys for a good bit of it and it was like Moses parting the Red Sea. As soon as I got south of the Mersey I headed for the A49. That was pretty good all the way down to Leominster. Although traffic was moderate there were plenty of opportunities to overtake and from Leominster it was a straight forward run to home. A bit weary but really happy with the bike. 6 Quote
Simon Davey Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 @S-Westerly Glad it was a fair ride home, and glad you made it safely. Quote

Looks pretty tranquil there, all that's needed is a fold up chair and a telescopic fishing rod. No bait needed, just sitting there taking it all in should do. 1 Quote
