smallfrowne Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Have you checked that the stator is in fine fettle? That went on my nc30 as well as the reg rec. There are some electrical tests you can do Quote
RideWithStyles Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 NC 92’s…Wonderful era of bikes and nearing the “last of the greats” Honda made imho. youve opened yourself up for a world of possibilities to spend time at the garage and an a parasite on the account. if after it warms with that id be checking the rubbers and plastics like hoses, rusty /shitty stuff in tank, carbs (and their diagrams) etc. with your lights and dropping out of things (after youve now changed the main component) relays etc, would be looking at whole loom and their connections, after that you’ll probably need to check closer to the specialist works like ecu connectors and boards, its an old bike now and degraded/corroded parts (even in sealed boxes) are to be expected. Welcome to the learning curve, we've all been there. It was rubbish Honda cam chain tensioners, dodgy Suzuki regulator/rectifiers & electric problems, setting points, balancing carbs and many many other mechanical oddities & idiosyncrasies in my youth. Some find fixing & tinkering annoying, some find it therapeutic, but if you learn to spin the spanners now it's a skill that never goes away. Good luck. Quote

Hopeless w electrics tbh so fingers crossed that’s all it is Quote
smallfrowne Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 You'll find out when you get in there then most likely. If it looks and smells like you've left it in the toaster a bit too long you know that it's that. Burnt bits, and you can't just scrape them off over the sink. Other things to upgrade maybe, it's not really "fixing" anything, but the connectors from the stator and to the reg rec were not good on my bike and not really up to their job. The 3 pin plug from the stator got quite hot which indicates that there is too much resistance in the connection. I replaced with (iirc) 45a Anderson connectors. But that was once I got everything working again and wanted to keep it like that. It's fairly common to see melted stator plugs, probably accurately specced by honda at time of being brand new and shiny, not so much after a few years. Also, easy one, replace fuses in general, they are known to corroded after a few years, increasing resistance and weirdness. On my VFR750 the main fuse eventually completely melted and caused a scene on the side of a mountain. Quote
Paul 66 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Can someone give me some advice. I’ve passed all my motorcycle tests CBT Mod 1 and 2 , I can take a pillion, unfortunately being on the short side . couldn’t flat foot MTO7.. they passed me on the 300 , I’m riding around on a 650 taking passengers , feeling a little cheated , I’m 58 !.. desperate to remove the restriction, hoping I don’t have to take tests again. Any advice, be much appreciated. Thanks !. Quote
Paul 66 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Yes I do … A2 , reason simply because couldn’t flat foot the 700 . ATM I’m riding a 650 . Quote

bonio Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 The Ninja is correct. If you took your test on a 300, they will only have given you an A2 licence. If you want an unrestricted licence, you'll have to re-take mod1 and mod2 on a 600 or a 650. Sorry not to have better news. Quote
Paul 66 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Thanks anyway all … Another Two inches my feet would have touched the floor .. Bummer , cheers anyway . Quote
Stu Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 The only real way to be sure is to check if you have any restriction codes on your licence or what categories you can ride! Post a photo of the back of your licence Quote

RideWithStyles Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 (edited) Even Midget WMO’s wouldn’t look at them the first time! Just aget a bike that fit you right and looks good - their are plenty enough of them if you look hard enough. So the only reason you didn’t take the a cat was not flat footing a 700 for a test? well if you couldn’t get your head around that then most bikes are high bar cruisers and flats etc. Worst case I would have turned the preload down on a normal bike just for the test. Honestly imho I wouldn’t get hung up on a2 cat at all - I spent 4 happy years on a 500CC 46hp out of choice AFTER 4 years on a 955CC with 150hp….most shit a scare themselves and hardly use the full power of the bike with more than 100hp for the road anyway, rest is wasteful and for bragging. I could go into the finer details and points. maybe a different engine configuration would suit yourself better? Edited October 25, 2024 by RideWithStyles Quote
