Anyone use the Litelok and how much is too much to pay for security. I have locks and chains and ground anchors etc for home use and a disc lock as a portable deterrent along with a tracker when out and about however I’m looking at the Litelok touring bundle, but it’s a staggering £350. or a little cheaper for the X1 bundle. I’m thinking security when touring. Currently I use a disc lock and a MulTi lock with a 12mm thick cable to attach to a post etc.

what do you use when away on the bike, apart from trying to find secure parking

the X1 is supposed to be excellent.

Personally i dont use anything, mainly as i dont really leave my bike anywhere where theft is a big risk.  There is underground secure parking at work and when i use it for pleasure i am generally riding it or in a cafe car park.  At hoome it is in my back garden locked in a metal shed, very few people will even know i own a bike.  Plus its not a hugely desirable bike, street triples are 2 a penny.

I am going on a trip in May to the Italian Alps but we are only booking hotels with secure parking.

I've got the X1 and it works well enough. I use it when I'm visiting my Dad along with an alarmed disc lock. Not sure how well it'll deter a serious thief but it will stop the casual one I think. Also although my bike isn't cheap neither is it on the must have list.

I wouldn’t have thought mine is on the desirable list and especially with it being a KTM. But the more I think about it, it will probably be nicked for parts and joy riding across fields. I’m thinking if it takes more than one grinding disc to cut through, I wouldn’t have thought the scum would have additional discs and the tools to change the them, well I hope not.

I've got a core moto that I use in conjunction with an Abus 8077 disc lock. If I was looking to upgrade either end I would be looking at the Hiplock which is around the same price as the X3.

Quick change on my grinder, no tools required, swap a disc  in seconds........

True, and I suppose it’s their tools of the trade so to speak. It will probably have already been nicked from a tradesman’s van. I suppose the theory I would hope the battery depletes before they cut through the baronium or whatever it’s called, then again they would probably carry a spare battery too

I would like to see how it would stand upto a tct circular saw disk rather than the grinder, I get the heat killing grinding discs but tct saw blades take little chips of and run pretty cold compared to slitting discs.

Your right on tools used probably all stolen.

If your talking about touring in Europe I don't think the risk justifies 350 quid

seems to be just UK & Ireland that thieving little sh1t bags are running riot with Ireland probably being the worst country in the world for thefts one of the statistics that popped up was that for every 100 bikes  registered 44 were stolen

Well that takes Ireland off my list of places to tour. Sounds as if your cops are even more pathetic than most of ours.

I wouldn't even consider it ( touring Ireland ) and I live here and know where to avoid

the Cops here simply don't care as in literally don't give a fook they have completely and utterly given up on the idea of law and order

The whole country is best avoided

I have never had any issues in Ireland, but I have always ridden and stayed in rural areas. As for Litelock, the Youtuber Freddie Dobbs left his motorbike overnight with the front wheel locked and found it had been attacked with an angle grinder, but only the outer plastic coating had been damaged. He could still use the lock. Very impressive. But, I would not get one as I do not need that level of security. My bike is never left anywhere risky.

I've been using one of their Core Moto locks for about 2 or3 years and so far so good. Okay nobody's had a go at it, but it's easy to use and looks the part as meaty bit of kit. I'll admit it doesn't roll up that small and I don't carry around with me if I'm just going out for a ride that just involves a cafe stop, but if I'm going somewhere and I know the bike is going to out of sight for a while, it gives me the confidence that at least I've used something that'll make the scrotes work hard if they have go at it.

Even rural areas are not safe anymore

A poor chap in Rathdrum ( rural area of Wicklow ) had the bike stolen even with half the engine missing they still took it :-(

I would like a litelock as they look impressive but that kind of U shaped lock is prob only going to be able to lock through the wheel as in not big enough to go round a pole or anything

At the mo I have 6 locks an alarm and the monimoto 9

@V650 That's frigging awful. Here I only use a lock if I'm parking the bike on a city street or hotel car park. Which is hardly ever.

It would be very rarely I would leave my bike out of my sight at all maybe once in last 2 years while I went in to Halfords and parked the bike on footpath outside with an alarmed disc lock on it

I think it is just a matter of time before insurance company's pull out of Ireland altogether

At present there are only 3 that come to mind that will insure bikes at all

Carole Nash 'principal 'and axa direct and at the moment I am paying more for insurance on the bike than for the car :-(

I can't see how it will continue at all

I've a couple of Core Motos from when they did an offer a year or so ago. Tend to use them when out and about. I've a growing collection of locks, chains and U-locks I use at home, along with multiple ground anchors. We now live in a really low crime village - it's complete overkill.

Had two bikes nicked in my life. My XL125S was from a secure parking facility, they pushed it out and no one did a thing. GPz900R MK.II was from our back garden in Brum and had Abus chains, locks, and an Abus lock on the gate. Said to me that none of it matters, if they've targeted your bike they're going to get it.

Touring Europe, I'd take a lock, chain and U-lock/disklock if we were heading into cities. If we were camping in the countryside I'd just use a U-lock.

I don’t think Europe is any different to the UK when it comes to bike thefts. So I have opted for the Litelok X1 supported by what I already have, an alarmed disc lock, tracker and mul-T-lock and cable. When I tour I usually try and ensure I have secure parking however there may be a slight chance I have to leave the bike for a few hours to go and climb a mountain 🤣. This year’s tours are slightly different. I have 1 hotel accommodation with secure underground parking garage, another small guesthouse type with secure parking yard with a high wall and gates to match, which is locked at night and away from the main road. The other nights I will be camping, well if the weathers good enough that is.
