  1. I am with you. The manager knows me, the day they shut down for “modernisation” and addition of a mini Waitrose. I told her I would find another garage if turns out like the Co-op down the road. Where you wait for people to put there months shopping through the till separated for meet frozen and veg. It was one of 2 proper garages sold fuel, chocolate bars, coffee and a handful of spares. Now you can go admire all manner of fine and fancy foods, most of which will not fit on a bike. They do try and serve you quickly I did suggest a fuel only till.
  2. I was with Orange for Years, never had an issue. Then they became EE and customer service went to pop. First year they sold me an expensive contract that I could not use. When I went to the ombudsman’s they lied saying we told you it had these terms and conditions. At the time I double checked and they never found phone recordings, Contract over I went to Tesco ok but not great signal for me. Have settled on sim only with Three, every year when my contract is due I go on U-s Switch and get them to price match, they reluctantly do. Presently it’s 100gig unlimited call and texts, the only thing I am charged for is MMS however WhatsApp covers that. Becarefull using ID, Tesco etc the ones that don’t own there own Ariel’s. If you live in the A-hole of no where and have poor signal strength the main network’s priorities there customers. If you have reasonable signal you should be fine.
  3. Lady in fuel station, about to get in the back to car, I was next in queue. All pumps busy she saw a friend, went did obligatory hug. Hi must catch up then started conversation, then they carried on talking. I climbed back on my bike and re-started my bike every time she spoke there was a blip on the throttle. She looked at me and I indicated she should park her car in empty bay next to her friend and carry on conversation. She just tried to carry on conversation, again I see the throttle. When she came to speak to me, Top GunStyle (unfortunately I am no Tom cruise) the revs went up when ever she opened her mouth, she finally turned and drove off. I apologised to cashiers and there response with a smile oh no your alright, don’t worry about it.

    Phone mount.

This question pops up regularly, every 2-3 years for me. That seems to be how long they last. I have used x mounts and am presently on one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-Phone-Holder-QC-3-0-USB-Charger-Mobile-Phone-GPS-Mount-Stand-gib/195626018647 Its done it’s job for 3 years and is only just big enough. However I would like one that will survive a bit longer with wireless charging. My phone is waterproof but big Dimensions: 6.76 x 3.21 x 0.42 inches (171.64 x 81.5 x 10.64mm). Plus a couple of mm all round for the case. I am pondering one of these: https://q-mount.eu/products/q-mount-pro Is more expensive better? Suddenly I am up to £50. Anyone any experience of these? I don’t want brackets on my phone case, it’s big enough and spends most of its life off the bike and in my pocket.
  5. The one today seen explaining to an Ambulance crew that he needed 2 Ambulance bays to park his BMW outside A&E. Causing problems for the ambulance crews. His justification he came in on an emergency the crew response was and we don't?
  6. I am with you although sometimes even the misses is to much….
  7. It's Wales the wind will be 50mph but if your by in a valley you will be fine. Until the rain floods the flood the flat area you pitched your tent on at the bottom of of the valley in out of the wind. Ah the New Forest my neck of the woods. Don't worry by the time you bought a beer or 2 down here, you will be needing a new job. You like cider? MynSerCider https://m.facebook.com/MYNERSCIDER/ There is also one in Burley although they are known in to be expensive.
  8. Dr's Surgery: The gate keepers, Drs receptionists.. Try messaging the surgery through the NHS app not there own web page Local Asda: Online shopping get then to bring it to you, or local shops (some of which can still be knobs and expensive). The Pub: Are there 2 in village? Choose the other one. If you feel like that up there don't move South, it's so much worse. I was dealing with a council up there about some bits, friendly helpful nothing like down here.
  9. Well I worked out why my Speedo on the 125cc wasn’t working. Bloody nephew the cable was missing Oh and a bit of tidying up on his dodgy wiring turning it into my dodgy wiring.
  10. The example you gave is an idiot. You can have all the qualifications you want but as proven on the road it licences mean very little to some. It happens on the road in the air in the commercial shipping. There is new legislation brought in that making it easier to prosecute small boat operators both commercial and amateur (interestingly excluding paddle boards and row boats my reading). https://www.rya.org.uk/news/2023/01/20/rya-welcomes-new-watercraft-legislation-2023 Of the poor practices/ incidents a fair share are commercial operators or those that claim to be qualified. I have sailed all my life in and out of the commercial world, I am sad to see leisure sailing beginning restricted due to cost. To the domain of entitled commercial and the wealthy. Rather than those that do it because of the love of the sea and boats.
  11. He makes a few mistakes but seems to get some good advice and leaves the important jobs to professionals. I get the feeling that he knows more than he lets on or does allot of homework. He’s chosen a sensible boat (if IMHO a little over priced) and is doing all the right prep. For all the talk sailing like biking is not that difficult or dangerous, particularly now the world relies on electronic charts and GPS. If someone bought a 55 year old 125cc, replaced bits, serviced it, did a CBT and set of around the uk, no maps relying on his SatNav, would they be safe? UK boating legislation is as @S-Westerly says is all but non existent. However I disagree, considering the numbers of people involved i don’t think the accident rates are that bad, although there are some horror stories. Judging by insurance, when getting quotes it makes little difference qualified or not. There are many similarities to biking some get a bike/ boat: scare themselves/ hurt themselves, sell it, spend hours looking at but not using it, it rots away in a corner, Yet some take to it and keep learning and enjoying learning, The ones who have done a course and think they know everything are the ones that scare me. I know in the Solent if I hear some one say “I have my day skippers” or “RYA Level” I am concerned. Part of the problem with training and certification in the UK is who to do it? The RYA? I have/ had some of there professional and amateur qualifications over the years and there culture is not one I like. IMHO RYA are in my opinion like ROSPA and IAM’s they can be a bit Martmite for many people. Yes the courses are generally ok and do make you better, however you don’t need to do the courses to be a good or even better than that.
  12. Ok which of you stole my idea, my dreams are shattered. https://youtu.be/ez9Cy3P1H9M
  13. Your not the first you won’t be the last, if you have not paid already try FB and finding another school in the area. A change of instructor can make a big difference. It took me 2 attempts.
  14. I am going nominate the local ish car, that pulled out of side road. In front of me, got a honk on the horn. Then brake tested me, I was on my little 125cc, I stopped 2” from his back bumper with my rear wheel what felt like 2’ in the air. I was very tempted to have a conversation with him regarding driving. Given his behaviour I think it would of ended in police involvement. I believe the car behind me locked his brakes as well. Could of been interesting insurance claim if my back wheel landed on his bonnet
  15. Ok thought I would update this. Cheap Stove arrived, followed by alcohol. Played with both, we found it worked. We tried creating a small fire or 3 and managed to extinguish them in good time. We ordered some ceramic wool for the Alcohol well, cut it with misses cake cutters (don’t tell her), filled it up turned it on its side not a drip. If it’s slower than gas it’s not allot, we just cooked 3 boiled potatoes in 25 minutes. Then fried them up for good measure. I am sold, we will be using the remaining gas cylinders and in time doing a switch.
  16. We all know the jokes about trusting your dogs, reaction to people. In the forest we get our fair share of joggers and cyclists (often well away from the cycle tracks, which I try to avoid. Has learned a dislike for MAMIL’s, he doesn’t mind women running or cycling and regular cyclists passing (they generally give polite warning and slow down or pass wide). Men in Lycra however bark an aggressive warning and expect us to move out of the way. How the f*&# is a dog meant to know aggressive sounding shouts are meant to mean get out of my way? He is now seeing it as aggression and barks back at them, they generally see it as aggressive often passing close enough kick out at him (in there defence of course) and it goes down hill from there. My concern is he’s clever enough to work out its men in Lycra, he will one day take exception to the foot coming in his direction. If they choose to discuss the matter, I have to keep a calm voice or it really goes down hill.
  17. Yes most of them become breathable in 2 ways fairly quickly, water gets in you get wet. If it starts raining the trousers normally just add the extra insulation you need to keep you warm due to the cooling effect of the rain.
