  1. As it's German may I suggest you just get your credit card out. It may respond better, bikes have a different culture when from there
  2. I think the big trick is NOTHING should be obstruct the bike leaving its parking. Your bike gear should be near the door or stored by the bike. Bikes need to be allowed to be put away dirty, maybe a spray to wash the salt of. The best thing I did with my first bike was fall off. Dinting tank and scratching the fairing Instead of being pristine and making time cleaning it after each ride, it made little difference to the value. I rode longer and in all weathers, it changed my mind set. Bikes are made for riding. "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967 My bikes join me in this journey...
  3. I bet you didn't, park it in the river or set it on fire at the local park at the end of the ride, just to be authentic.
  4. As a male shopping mid week alone, it’s probably as important there as anywhere. A great place to learn about when to do them. It is generally assumed by other shoppers you don’t know what you want, or doing, or where your going and have all the time in the world. Making you the lowest species on the food chain. Occasionally you might get an elderly lady who asks for help with a heavy item, they might even say thank you. The rest of the time you are on your own in hostile territory. It’s rough in there I tell you, pushed about carved up bashed by trolleys. “Excuse me can you move out of my?” ”So you can stand in front of me behind the lady who is blocking the isle?”. Very occasionally the person asking is of such style grace and presence (cute ass, nice legs) that you cannot help but say yes. If your female don’t read to much into this, it might equally be that what ever is blocking the isle is so repulsive any view is better. There is only one time I can recall being treated with some civility, I remember it well….. It was spring 2007 late April or maybe early May, the weather was fine, dry a little light cloud, not to cold or warm. It may of been a Friday or Saturday, the super market was busy. I was sent out with new born to buy female sanitary products, chocolate, and baby stuffs. With sleeping baby I was ushered through without a single raised word, for once I felt like an equal in there. The Golden ticket only worked the once, I did try again within weeks however that one event all just seemed like a distant memory. I suspect it was a combination of the newness wearing off, the shopping type changing to include beer and other male essentials. Or maybe it was just a dream.
  5. For me it's cash only for cars, bikes, boats yes that means they are old. They are also used regularly and probably cost me less to maintain than servicing and depreciation on a newer models.
  6. That's my understanding. However keep an eye out the new SI for watercraft could be the start of regulations. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2023/35/introduction/made Regulations are not something that are always good. Particularly when the RYA support it: https://www.rya.org.uk/news/2023/01/20/rya-welcomes-new-watercraft-legislation-2023 More authority and growth in revenue for them.. I know of one case for inland waterways, bought a boat. Needed it a survey for BSS. The gas locker had been well made by folding aluminium sheet to a complex shape then wrapping it in fiberglass. All fitting regulations except... The surveyor condemned the locker "the locker should be made of fibreglass or aluminium". I understand it had previously passed survey.
  7. Slopping out is where the ceramic wick comes in. We will play with cheap Chinese one at home with spray bottles and garden hose and simulate a spill (or 2) and extinguishing it. The boats an old long keel boat low freeboard, what a traditionalist would call a proper boat (except she’s fibreglass). Designed before gas lockers, where a thing when self draining cockpits and heavy Deisel engines where new. However unlike our last larger boat the dogs can get below without lifting them, the we can step onto the pontoon or out of the dinghy easily. Given a 30 knot blow either of us can sail it single handed. The accommodation by modern standards is minimalist and easily heated by the paraffin heater. Sadly self survey has become more difficult, I managed it for years. However I have found insurance companies will accept for 3rd party insurance not fully comp.
  8. Lots of challenges in this the boat is classic design with low freeboard. Originally the gas bottle was in the anchor locker. Previous owner opted for removing this when a surveyor raised various “ issues”. There would be less but similar issues at the stern, the best option would be a gas locker on deck. The challenge is as a private boat owner (not on inland waterways) there are no “regs” as such. However invite a surveyor on board and they can look to the regulations that a commercial boat must satisfy. Then choose which regs, they feel appropriate. A commercial gas fitter will fit to commercial standards at £££ Another thing against gas is Full Gas cylinders on the south coast have been like hens teeth down the last few seasons. Yes we have tried propane butane mix canisters, present ones are said to be that. However they have seriously struggled all winter. Other modern gas free alternatives are induction hobs, microwaves. Not really an option for us. Older examples are pressurised paraffin stoves and alcohol stoves. Both famous for being flame throwers if not lit properly. I can testify to this, we have one already in form of a pressurised paraffin heater with chimney. It takes 3 minutes to light and once lit produces ample heat all day. However it takes 3 minutes of concentration if not you get balls of flame, not what you want when you just want a brew. The cheap alcohol stove shown above would be very much a short term thing. Starting in garden, then moving it the to boat in flat conditions if we get confident. If that worked and we felt we got on with it there is a marine grade alcohol stove but it costs ££ and has no gimbals or pot holders so more £. I was just looking for knowledge outside the marine world where views on cooking fuels have become polarised.
  9. Any opinions? Looking at non pressurised, type. Have been using a cartridge type stove, on the boat however in the cold they are slow. Have also had a couple of minor had leaks / fires. When heating things on low heat. Have been hearing of a few cases of this. I have ordered an alcohol one from China to play with. I know it all works different to photo. Plan is to make it "spill proof" using ceramic wool felt. If this works in garden I might spend £££ on a marine version. Anyone any experience.
  10. I think I was 18 months in when I got my 1200 Trophy. As others have said it's your choice. Depends on your style of riding and confidence. I would not go back to a naked bike, when the weather is chilly a little fairing makes a big difference.

    50cc

Can 16 years olds ride 2 stroke 50cc bikes? 45mph not 30 and inherently more cool? They seem to sell for same price as regular 125cc just older.
  12. We have got one , use it a bit although over the years our use age of it has become rather limit. Alternative to a grill basically, 7 minutes a side suits most things although bacon still cooked properly. Potato peelings make great crisps, drop of oil and heat till your shade of cooked. The steamer gets used as much vegetables, boiled eggs, rice, dim sum.
  13. IMHO she did nothing wrong, or I would not of done. Flipping him the bird was not clever on low powered bike. How did he race of ahead and he end up behind her? Either way he assaulted her. To avoid the situation filter to behind the first car if on smaller bike not capable of out running car at front drop in behind them. If it’s traffic light dragsters and you suspect they will be an idiot. However in this case it would of been hard to know. Second observation stop on petrol station forecourt or outside busy place, witness often stop aggression. I often change my speed if I get a car playing i am not happy with. If I have a car being difficult I have been known either slow and let them be until I can filter passed orto open it up hard to licence loosing speeds for 10 or so seconds the drop back to my motorway speed. Most of the time this deters them from continuing, however there is always the odd one.

Yes my nephew did it, a bit of f googling tells you the gear and speed in the corner.

    c.b.t.

It’s also cheaper than a second CBT if you can teach yourself how to pass the test. With a 125cc you can sit the test on your own bike without using an instructor. Plenty of you tube out there to help you.
  18. Nope but I heard it on the news this morning, from 80 odd miles away
  19. My boss handed me a bit of bike today must of fallen of a couple of days ago. My response 20 year old triumph what do you expect? Then his gleaming 6 month old BMW 1600GT would still not be there like my triumph when you left your key in the panniers for a 10 hour shift
  20. Wash the disc and area with soapy water. Go for ride, ride for a few minutes with brake on slightly till it feels better. Change what ever you feel needs changing, however IMHO it's physiological not mechanical. Unless you can feel fractions of a % in breaking. Edit to add I have had Oil/ grease on my discs countless times and ACF50. Oil I generally wash off before riding, ACF50 burns off fairly quickly.
  21. That's not that helpful... I make calendar reminders 2 months and 6 weeks in advance. Locally getting an MOT for a car at any time within a week is next to impossible. Within 2 weeks it's normally at the time prescribed by them. If your car fails then MOT, getting work completed within the allowed 2 weeks becomes a challenge. Strangely Motorbike MOT's are not so bad. However when the local guy retires the nearest MOT station will be 7 miles away, after that 15 miles away.
