  1. Why was starter changed? Was work done by garage? I would be back to who ever changed it, or checking my own workmanship to see what I got wrong? Has the new starter failed?
  2. Some thoughts for you: New Lid, and gloves, Second hand gear - what you want will change, eBay Facebook etc Second hand bike (you will drop it some how, we all do), Watch the MPG of bigger bikes - particularly if commuting, Have second mode of transport - bikes need maintenance, and snow and ice not sensible riding weather, If commuting look at bikes baggage carrying capability - even a ruck sack can be a pain, Insurance costs can mount up in early years - it's not always about engine size,
  3. You don’t work for the press? Looking for sound bites
  4. I am going to add a situation I am faced with almost daily. Routinely I ride and drive up this road. Cars barge past the road narrowing, into on coming traffic. In the car I drive at them sensibly, leave just enough gap. We all do the same and routinely get abuse. On the bike its challenging, If you have to stop you are stuffed. I think my record is 12 cars till one stopped. Being stopped by cars on one occasion a car tried to overtake me when a gap eventually appeared. No surprise the car behind me felt it was my fault and gave abuse. On the bright side going the other way I have nearly caused a few crashes whilst on the bike. There is a gap between the curb and road narrowing wide enough for the bike. Ride on then nip through gap. The on coming cars drive aggressively to stop you, the car behind trying to follow you. I have heard several squeals of brakes.
  5. Tornadoes in the UK but as uncommon as you would think. "Between 1980 and 2012, England experienced 2.2 tornadoes per year per 10,000 square kilometres (3,861 square miles) – which equates to one per every 4,545 square kilometres (1,754 square miles) annually. By comparison, the entire USA (including the non-contiguous states of Alaska and Hawaii) experienced 1.3 tornadoes annually per the same area – or one per 7,693 square kilometres (2,970 square miles)." https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/most-tornadoes-by-area#:~:text=Between 1980 and 2012%2C England,(1%2C754 square miles) annually. With a warning atmosphere there will be more energy to create bigger, more or more intense tornadoes. Glad your ok.
  6. I think you made the right decision, no harm done. Dropping bike on slippery roundabout and she would just drive off, your loss. I never turn my head (helmet) towards a driver waiting at a roundabout. I watch them 100% they rarely pullout, unless I turn my head/ helmet (try it). However in the car I normally make eye contact with car driver. Normally whilst accelerating or making my driving wild or exaggerated, same for junctions. At Junctions on the bike I deliberately swerve to position so I can be seen and will be seen to turn my head to see them. Seems to work for me some of the time.
  7. How I know this problem until this winter. 2 wet dogs, wet sailing gear and short journeys meant the car never dried inside. One reason I use the bike whenever I can. It's actually warmer, warm jacket on in house with lid. Out to bike start gloves on heated grips on. Ride to work, into garage gear off. If I do the same in the car even the heated seats barely get warm by the time I am at work. The car heater never kicks in the car gets more damp. I do find one of these works well: Cheap and effective, can also be used as a funnel. Sadly not so effective on concave inside.

    Flue jab

I had the flue jab for a few years, however after covid no. I had covid before the had, I plastered the ceiling. Next time I had covid I had one jab, I was not so active, 3rd time after both jabs I felt worse. I have had a couple fevers not covid, nothing serious paracetamol and 24hours, I have been fine. So this year not for me.
  9. My last one malfunctioned, I had to do it all myself, including the stuff it made themselves. Be careful the problem is getting old ones out of your house Many models of there but not a design I recommend.
  10. As normal for me I would not necessarily agree, through your leg over bikes lots of bikes. Decide what you want to use it for, if your, the practicalities of each bike. I started thinking my bike was going to be an occasional toy. Now I use it daily to commute. Its your first bike and blokes often change bikes like women change handbags, don’t get to hooked up. Like women they can also be high maintenance cleaning chain adjustment, tyres servicing. Another thing about big bikes is they can be thirsty Harley Davidson Nightster 45mpg. Honda Rebel 500 80mpg. 125cc 120++ mpg If your using it to go 20+ miles a day to work that can soon mount up. Possibly enough to justify 2 bikes. Buy a bike you like in good condition with good history at the right price, second hand.
  11. However like your dishwasher if not given a good hot setting regularly acquires crude it drains and blocks the drains. Don’t ask how I know.
  12. Good morning all
  13. I haven't but tried but I was going to say to @Stu I can see no reason not to plug them into the bike. Other than the flaf of having to set the temperature each time you walk away from the bike. I have gone for battery packs as I have used my jacket when sailing to good effect as well. Tempted to buy some of these to put in my old boots: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electric-Heatable-Infrared-Washable-reusable/dp/B08LL8478D? But it's running wiring that puts me off. There is also these that have become affordable: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007941832673.html? But heated pads that close to the skin might create hot spots. This jacket is tempting except for the hood: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Upgraded-Waterproof-Windproof-Outerwear-Temperature/dp/B0BJW17C4Y/ref=asc_df_B0BJW17C4Y?
  14. I believe they are, OEM although back only has afew couple of thousand on it. Thanks for advice.
  15. I started on a 600cc, (FZ6N) then jumped to a 1200 sports tourer. On most roads solo the 600 was quicker. I agree with a tall bike. IMHO if you value your licence big sports bikes are off little use on the roads. It's not about the bike it's about you the rider
  16. Interesting I was pondering this today, my Himalayan came with Knobblys. And they have given me no reason to doubt them, until today. A couple of cold damp corners on road they where a little squirmy. However when it got a bit more snowy. I rode through car parks that on road tyres in the dry I am cautious. They gave me no reason to doubt. 99% of my riding is road 40% of that is dirty "B" roads. The knobbly have not squirmed like my road tyres did. My next tyres are going to take some consideration, so watching with interest.
  17. Ok today I went for a ride, yes it was a little nippy. However I was warm, those that have seen my posts know I swear by a cheap heated jacket similar to: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clearance-Electric-Washable-Clothing-Heating/dp/B0DHZY23XQ? Well added an addition today: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156450233284? I wore these and unlined trousers. Both on low and I was comfortable. Both connected to the same battery pack out for about an hour and I used 10%. Would I recommend? For £30 hell yes. Coldest part of me was the tips of my fingers and feet. Once home all cold has gone quicker, much.
  18. Local hobby round here, temporary lights should have cameras by default. I have sat through 2 light changes as cars just kept driving through. I have stopped as lights changed and been "overtaken" by cars jumping the red lights. People don't seem to give a fook about temporary lights. Makes me want to get a dash cam.
  19. Was hoping to head west for a few days next week, weather really looking miserable. Might take the There is cold wet and Windy I don’t do all three…
  20. I stopped shopping by car many moons ago unless essential, one thing I enjoy about bikes is free accessible parking. If they remove that I will reduce my shopping trips further. When It’s cheaper to get delivered and return than go to a shop, the local shops are going to close. When the common answer is we can get one in for you there is no point visiting a shop in the first place. I can order to my door. When I go to the shop I want to look touch, not order in virtual online manner.
  21. I will look and probably get seduced into something I don’t really need. There are afew bargains out there but few far between.
  22. The other day I was using an old cart (actually old push bike trailer) to move logs around. Long story I had to take the valve out of the tyre. Then the valve, to let the air out, it was then I remembered some 20 years ago I had slimed the tube. The Enfield I have has tubes tyres and given recent post on puncture repairs on the road. Bike is 90% road use the only punctures I have had on other bikes have been nails. The thought came to my mind is there a reason I cannot slime my Himalayan tubes/ tyres?
  23. Not moored but figured I should get some plugs, thinking non fitted but should let intercom work through them without breaking the bank… I see plenty on Amazon any suggestions, if I find I wear them and don’t loose them to easily I may well go for moulded. one step at a time.
  24. Morning and good night just in from my ride back from work and that’s why I am not keen on loud pipes…
