  1. Then when you have spent to long in the tropics. You can point out to the locals its a cold day and the temperature is in the low 20's...
  2. With me I believed it was salt water. either way..... I was not so lucky.
  3. Having given this much thought and a list of names to choose from... I have decided to nominate @Trace The lady behind @Stu who puts up with all his crying over New forum software. Or adds more the odd glitch to keep him busy. Either way she deserves my nomination...
  4. Breaks are for stopping, gears are for going... Personally I like a little engine braking, possibly because I have had total break failure twice in cars... Sitting in tropical sun with a hangover and no drinking water for 3 hours is not good for ones sole...
  5. My response is normally that they will never know in futures if I am doing it to annoys them or not.... Re brakes, don’t worry about riding in rain just wash bike regular like. Contrary to some most bikes don’t dissolve with a drop of rain. if back wheel has been removed the callipers will have been pushed back a bit so might of disturbed some crud. See if you can workout which wheel, then you know where to start, having calippers myself it’s not rocket science just read up ask on here and look at U-tube...
  6. Hmm I access the forum through: Ipad - iOS Chrome or safari Phone android - Edge Or the app Tablet android- Chrome Laptop Windows - Chrome Don’t ask why so many devices but it works for me (I have not used the laptop today, although any more typing and I’ll be tempted), the software change is interesting..
  7. Watch it you will have the big guns after you now looking for the easy flounce for TOTY award. Who's going to be first to have a shot @Six30 @MarkW To get @XTreme in on the act you need to identity as a female.
  8. First ride as pillion, it was blowing a gale, my parents friend I think was told to scare the 11 year old pillion (who had just recovered from latest breakage due to pushbike incident). I came back grinning from ear to ear. They kept me off bikes for another 30 years, by bribery and corruption. As a rider my first ride was Solo collecting my 125 shortly after passing my CBT. Straight across Southampton in rush hour, after that I have used a bike whenever possible.
  9. Probably the sexist attitude shown by some on here to mention no names
  10. Must admit I can struggle to find that.. However if looking for particular post I can normally find on search function...
  11. I had always read it as Member of the year but NO YOU have made it QUITE clear* obviously trying for nomination for the TOTY. I do have to apologise to the ladies on here particularly @Six30 who by his own profile picture (although many question what @Six30 actually is) can no longer win the MOTY. Starting to think your trying to take the pressure of @Six30 in the awards for TOTY, not certain why everyone knows he's never going to get the Mod gig until gets rid of his manager and his motorbike (s). *Can I just say this forum is not full of sexist pigs, most welcome females into this male dominated reses of the internet. Being the deprived lecherous men that hang round in such places (generalising not speaking for all (or myself) of course)...
  12. I think the following deserve nominations for(Man of the Year) 2020 : @gymwitch @Slowlycatchymonkey @Hoggs @Emily @helenjp @Six30 Just because they cannot win, as men....
  13. Who says he lets him? I thought he was more like an infestation?
  14. When I was last in London the police where quite proactive on this. There you go 40mph Mile 25+ range. https://www.jacs-electricbikes.co.uk/product-page/52v-2400w-calibre-rake-fast-electric-mountain-bike-40mph-ebike-bluetooth These things are so light they can achieve some good ranges. The way of the future for Electric Vehicles IMHO, lightweight without the refinements of the petrol counterparts. I do think there needs to be some rules, registration, insurance and rider standard for electric vehicles of all types. At the moment they meander round doing what they want. There are several round here of ALL Ages, OAPS to Kids on electric scooters & mobility scooters meandering into the middle of the road into oncoming traffic to pass parked cars, or beeping/ shouting sometimes aggressively to get off pavements or footpaths when they approach silently from behind. The standard only needs a theory test and an equivalent CBT/ Mod1 but something.
  15. Think your right there people will use one to blame the other to push the prices up, the same happened in Europe when they adopted the Euro. Like with COVID there will be winners and losers, those that have the ability will need to adapt to survive. I had hoped this thread would not become a platform for Gammons or Remoaners to vent then I guess emotions are still running high. Things are going to change if we like it or not, just what.
  16. I have heard some say its best left to cool to wash the salt of as you are making a hot acid or something which can increase rust... I clean my bike when I get chance.
  17. I was waiting for your Sewing Circle to be some den of den of iniquity.... "They’re all in their late sixties early seventies" That sounds like a local Yacht club down here, glad your having a better experience, at the time I found there facility's use full, I am no longer a member. When mum was alive I would take her in for lunch, the general assumption was she was the member, I was routinely asked who's boat am I sailing? - My own, Who's boat are you working on? - My own, The old classic so our a member here? I don't recognise you are you new? 10 years of member ship later... For some reason I never felt welcome.. The boatmen and bar staff knew me by name as they where routinely asked by others if I was a member. I still have had a boat on the river for near enough enough 20 years and I am still one of the youngest mooring holders.
  18. I am sure we can find afew Swiss left in the UK to push down a hill.
  19. I know no one really knows but... I saw somewhere that Cheddar cheese is going to go up in price, as we import it. Surely we cannot import that? By definition isn't it made in the UK?
  20. @S-Westerly @Slowlycatchymonkey If your out on bikes and not going Northerly or Westerly I may be game to catch... Week days are often best for me... Depending upon the evils of shifts...t @Six30 had also threatens to catch up but that might might be too far west for him...
  21. I have regular free supply of MCN's I cannot say I read them from cover to cover. However they have historically been superb at lighting fires. 4 Pages of MCN and I could skip kindling ang go straight to small logs, this year the paper will not even burn. Next on the list is Amazon wrapping paper and that strange corrugated/ shredded cardboard which is truly excellent, but there is only so much you can order to get the stuff... Anyway back on my knees to try again
  22. Its impressive stuff, contrary to popular belief it will burn of brakes after about 10 minutes riding with your brakes on..... However put it on your mirrors and even medical grade cleaning wipes (yes ones that can deal with "the virus"), clean undesirables out of undesirable places and do a good job on the chain side of the swing arm don't touch it... Just an observation.
  23. You go there before me Actually many Forest Pubs are VERY Welcoming as long as they can see the thickness of your wallet when you go in, you may even be welcome back again if its emptied before you leave. How ever even before Covid they expected you to que on a weekend for the pleasure of being served over rated over priced food. If its only overpriced expect to book your table a week or 2 in advance. There are rare traditional pubs where the locals will still look at you with distain, there the ones "incomer" locals don't go in unless they have lived the area for at least a decade or 2 and are not mentioned in polite society. If you walk in and the bar staff don't know one of your parties names its best to leave, quietly... For the less traditional pubs, Don't think they are thinking to eat you they are more choosy, the distain might be: You don't have a dog, You don't have the right breed of dog. You have children with you, You where not wearing sailing cloth's or Green Wellies, The clothes your wearing where not the right brand, Your car bike or mode of transport is not of suitable quality, They will however still expect to empty your wallet.
  24. Understand your concerns about Covid, my thinking would be meeting at burger shack or similar outdoor meeting. For future reference Dorchester (top of town Cafe) is well within time limits for tomorrow, Wells (that's now on my list as I have not been there) / Clarks Village would be @2 hours pushy for tomorrow (I had been think Street Clarkes Village and Cadburys Shop till I checked times prior to seeing your post). For future Geography the New Forest is Between Southampton and Bournemouth. I will post again given one encouraging reply.
  25. Things to think about Bikers change bikes like women change there handbags. In 6 Years I have had 5 bikes and I keep looking for the budget to change on of my present ones and I am far from the worst. As others have said sit on as many bikes as you can as for power of bike unless your going for Sports bike I think over 600cc makes little difference. MY first bike was a FZ6 useless for touring but fast enough to get me into trouble easily. My TDM900 is 900cc but much more gentle than the FZ6, the same weight. The Trophy 1200. same performance as FZ6 but better with Pillion. As for riding with Pillion that's a variable, how good is the Pillion? My Partner is 90kg and a good pillion, once she is on I hardly notice her. A friend who goes Pillion and my daughter are not so good both probably nearer 2/3 the weight, my daughter sits seque to look over my shoulder my friend also a rider leans into the bends before I would. If your on a budget check costs of insurance, before buying anybike...
