  1. I seem to recall that my old Z1000 ST would go into second because many's the time I had to scoot it down the drive to start it .
  2. And yet again there is no response from another one post wonder .
  3. Ok, I've taken delivery of my £50 " Bargain " ER5 engine . I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do with it yet . It mostly depends on if I can determine whether the gearbox works or not . ER5s have a peculiarity that means they will not change from first to second unless they are in drive mode and moving . The seller apparently didn't know this and sold it dirt cheap in the belief that it was knackered. My assistant Bob has examined the engine and has given his approval to proceed . Either that or some other moggy has pissed on it .
  4. I agree but it just seems odd that none of the suppliers of aftermarket parts are aware of this .
  5. This may help, I see the CB125F is made in China and the CBF was made in India. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CBF125
  6. Interesting, I've had a look as well and its like the CB125F simply doesn't exist as far as after market parts are concerned. The thing that puzzles me is that if the engine was identical to the CBF then you would expect the various makers of these piston and barrel kits to say so . That way they would sell more product . An alternative approach would be to buy a genuine Honda oversize piston and take it with the barrel to a reputable engineer to have it rebored and honed .
  7. The reason that the sprocket has threaded holes is so that it can be fitted to other bikes . What you have there, by the way , is the rubber cushioned version as described in the links I posted for you . PS although I do enjoy offering my advice , some acknowledgement would be appreciated.
  8. Evening, I had a look in the JT catalogue and It shows that ALL ER5s have the same front sprocket JTF512.17 . As you can see 17 is the biggest size this sprocket comes in .http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/sprocket/JTF512/

  12. "That guy's gotta stop...he'll see us " James Deans last words according to his passenger. Glad you came through unscathed .

Couldn't resist , welcome to the forum , can you post a few pics of the carb .One thing worth checking is whether the pilot air screw is the correct number of turns out or it might just need a service ie a new plug and a clean air filter . I'm surprised you even need choke in this recent weather. If you're not sure about where the pilot air screw is let me know . Actually, come to think of it , the pilot jet system might be blocked up .

Just leap out from behind a bush and shout BOO !
  17. And I think that's probably bullshit . I doubt that there would be any oil pressure behind a clutch cover gasket . The clutch is lubricated by splash and is inside the crankcase which is ventilated through an oil breather the purpose of which is to relieve pressure . Make sure they haven't just disconnected something to keep you happy . The clutch cover wasn't leaking oil was it ? I don't suppose they have offered you any compensation for all your trouble. Not good enough. EDIT ok I take it all back , the net is a wash with reports of faulty clutch gaskets being at the root of the issue with these bikes
  18. Did you get run over by a horse and cart? Or was the model T out by then I was knocked down by a red mini .
  19. Just a thought, if all this heat is being generated either side of something that is designed to generate and dissipate heat then I can only assume that the reg rec is at fault . Try upgrading to a Honda CB 250 n pattern one .
  20. If they had installed them outside my primary school in the 1960s I probably wouldn't have been knocked down by a car . If you had paid attention to the green cross code or looked we're you was going you would not been knocked down . One my best friends was knocked down (more thrown in the air about 20ft) right in front of me .due to wanting to get to the chippy before us run down off the footbridge and right across the road right on to the path of a 6th former driving a Ford escort .speed bumps would not have stopped him from getting hit .. Also he was killed about 6 years ago riding a bike hit a pot hole throw him in to path of a.lorry and it went over him dragged him under the lorry and about 20ft till it stopped he was killed out right but scraped along the road it was like a long red skid mark.. The Green Cross Code was not introduced until 1970 . Up until then we had the Tufty Club which was quite incomprehensible to a five year old with Asperger's syndrome .

  22. That would be me. I was atempting cleaning the jet when I saw the needle wasn't sitting properly and a poke reviled it was not clipped in It's ok for the needle to wobble around a bit as long as it rises and falls with the slide .
  23. A real fingerprint brush is £12 , but if you go to Poundland ...
  24. Like dusting for finger prints, what a good idea .
