  1. You could have made that from an old socket with an angle grinder.
  2. The rear pads in my GSXR are the original Nissin ones that have been in there for 25 years and 43000 miles . Given that I have two large floating disks and two six piston callipers on the front , I have always regarded the little disk and two piston calliper on the back as purely for cosmetic purposes . So not much danger of my rear brake heating up because I hardly ever use it .
  3. If it happens again I wouldn't pour cold water on it in case this causes something to crack . The only thing you could do is rebuild the calliper with new seals and check to see if the pads have become glazed . Normally when a rear calliper gets very hot it actually sticks on rather than fails to stop the bike so I'm not too sure what has happened here . Hope you sort it soon .
  4. There seems to be a repeating pattern here . New member , one technical query , a member or members respond and then nothing . No thanks and no further contact .
  5. The idea of a chat forum is to chat . I hope you are not another person who registers , asks one vague technical question and is then never heard of again . So , does it smoke ?
  6. Ah now I remember you from M&P Coventry. Oh shit , well I'm very sorry but there's nothing I can do about it now .
  7. This was most enjoyable to read purely as an example of good letter writing.
  8. They haven't really got engines . There is something inside the plastic that makes a funny noise and they do go along the road somehow. The exhaust looks like a cat's bum . Nice graphics though.
  9. Drones with forcefields. And guns. Hate gulls. I looked away for a second and a gull had swallowed my deep fried haggis in one go . bast*rds ! I even saw one swallow an ice cream cone without breaking it .
  10. Oddly enough that same day was the first opening day of M&P Coventry and we were absolutely mobbed , dozens of bikes right down the street , five deep at the counter , pandemonium. Off topic I know ..... but why did M&P close down? I was gutted, it was local with a wide variety of stock at competitive prices. I worked there for ten years, its complicated and I don't really want to talk about it in detail . Briefly, it was only M&P for part of the ten years it was open . It went stand alone under the name MPS and was re acquired by M&P and branded as Busters . Why did it eventually close ? Among many reasons , the internet probably played a part . Other reasons were disappointed customers, poor stock control , false promises , unpaid suppliers, embezzlement, floods , out of touch management , theft , and a badly chosen location . And that's all I want to say about that.
  11. Well I am taking a spare set of clutch plates with me because of my experience on the Devils Staircase last year . I might save them for the Bealach Na Ba later on in the journey. Great road but unfortunately it's a bit East - West , I need a bit more South - North really. Maybe on the way back. Really? I walked up it like most normal folk do on the west Highland way, is there another route I could have gotten a taxi up, I damd annoyed if there was The Bealch Na Ba is not part of the west highland way . It is much further north and goes to Applecross .

  14. Probably stops better than mine then !
  15. The heater pipes do swivel but I haven't tried pulling them out so I don't know what happens if you try . Glad you got it running a bit better so at least you have something to improve on . One thing you could try next is to check the fuel levels in the carbs because this has quite an influence on smooth running . This is easy to do on an ER , there are actually instructions in the factory manual. Just connect clear PVC tubing to the carb drains , open up and make a U bend. Fuel level should be level with the joint between the bowl and the body . What you have done to the pod filters makes sense . My ER5 runs a very loud , completely open can , standard filter and jets . There is a nice popping noise on the over run but that's not a bad thing . This is not a fast bike so if , like me , you have ridden more high performance bikes it will take a lot of getting used to . When I first got mine I was constantly in the wrong gear but now I love riding it. Another big influence on running is the valve clearances or tappets . I recently set mine right in the middle of the upper and lower settings ( 0.20 & 0.15 ) then I balanced the carbs and the difference was very noticeable . I also set the mixture screws at 1 and a half turns out instead of 1 and a quarter as recommended. Anyway let me know how you get on but consider trying all these things first before changing any jets otherwise you might be fiddling around for ever .

You're not thinking of Nitroglycerine are you?......A la World's Fastest Indian........ That would make it go like a bomb No but I remember that scene, brilliant film .
  17. Always have . Initially because I was skint but now for the satisfaction of knowing its been done right . For me this is intrinsic to being a biker.
  18. Why? Were you "watchin'" it......sorry, Elvis.... At this stage I was already defecting a whiff of ...
  19. Yup I should of done that when the seals where changed last year :/ Hopefully this year strip down change bushes and seals 3000 grit wetand dry maybe a bit of plastic metal type filler might save me getting new fork stanchions... False economy http://www.amphardchrome.co.uk/
  20. If you are replacing fork seals for goodness sake replace the top and bottom bushes while you're at it .
  21. Exactly the same thing happened when I did the seals on my ER5. The bolts just came out and tightened up again without any special tools to hold the damper rods . Guess I was just lucky but I did have a broom handle on hand just in case .

What was the name of those soluble tablets that you also were supposed to put in the tank ?

In a moment of madness, I mixed some model aeroplane glo fuel with petrol in the tank of an MZ TS 125 . The thinking being that a bit of castor oil and methanol might make it go a bit faster or at least improve the quality of the smoke .Unfortunately the fuel in the carb turned to a kind of jelly so it didn't go at all .
