I'm in inverness right now , off to Channonry point to spot some dolphins , hopefully, then off to Ullapool to rest at Ardmair point and hopefully photograph otters . I got an attachment that fits my phone to binoculars but my phone has been acting very strangely.
  2. Maybe the output shaft has snapped like a carrot or the sprocket has rounded off it's splines . Can you actually see that the output shaft is not driving the sprocket . Other than that perhaps the clutch nut has come undone.

This is where Clarkson etc from Top Gear played golf but they pretended to be in Knoydart which is further on and only reachable by boat despite still being the UK mainland .

Thanks , I'm camped in Glen Nevis right now . I've been here many times before. The Braveheart location has always been a weirdly atmospheric place long before Mr Gibson came along . Went to Glen Afric once but we were set upon by more midges than I have ever seen in all my visits to Scotland. Like dense smoke they were , terrifying! Went out to Mallaig and back this morning just for the road . It's no where near as much fun as it used to be 30 years ago due to "improvements" but still a brilliant ride .

Coventry, Derby, Huddersfield, Halifax, Keighley,Kendal , Keswick, Carlisle, Gretna, Glasgow, bridge of orchy . Did it all in one go ! Not bad for an ER5. Camped at Bridge of Orchy , just ridden through Glen Coe in the rain , clouds below the mountains were spectacular, now I'm in McDonalds in Fort William.

Right , here I go on another epic tour to northern Scotland. If any of you spot me on the road please come and say hello .

    Rattle on engine

Which is why I suggested that you remove the spark plug to remove any compression .

Are you able to get an after market "Dog leg" lever for this particular bike ?
  12. Ok, apologies for my earlier comment regarding your lack of response, I was feeling a little annoyed about some other first time posters who use this forum once only to seemingly demand technical help and then fail to acknowledge our efforts. So welcome to the forum . The reason I needed to know if it smoked is that from experience with a colleagues bike and some posts here , I have become aware that YBRs might be prone to excessive cylinder wear and piston ring failure. The poor performance, ticking noises and increased discharge of oil vapour from the crankcase breather all point in this direction BUT if it isn't smoking then I doubt that this is actually the case . Other likely causes of ticking noises can be flappy tappets but more usually tappets close up . A leaking exhaust can produce a metallic ticking sound as can a loose camchain . A lack of oil to the top end can create worn camshaft journals which would also affect running and produce noise . The thing that all of these possibilities have in common is that the only sure way to find out what's wrong is to methodically strip down the engine starting with the top end , inspect and measure all components in accordance with the specifications in the manual and replace as required. If you buy a Haynes manual and follow it carefully you will find this to be a very rewarding experience that will set you on the right path to becoming a good motorcycle mechanic . By the way , if your engine turns out to be trashed you could always buy a generic Chinese YBR style engine brand new for as little as £200 . After all, the YBR is not actually made by Yamaha in Japan. It's a Chinese Jianshe built to ( presumably ) a slightly higher standard with a higher price tag to match . So sticking a Chinese engine in it wouldn't make a lot of difference.
  13. minimum of 6 months waiting and quotes on average £1500 to £1800... I could learn to do it in 6 months and save £££. Good chap but way out of my price league, this is for your rich folk. Might just get it through its MOT for now and rewire in the winter myself! F**k me ! How does he justify that ? Sounds like there is an opening for a competitor .

  16. It's an insulting gesture and believe it or not there are people still in existence who believe that is not an acceptable reaction . Behaviour breeds behaviour. Well yes isn’t polite that’s for sure but when someone’s behaved very poorly in your direction then as a form of communication it’s better than shouting or violence. Why do you suddenly want to communicate with some random shit driver that you have never met ? There is nothing to be achieved here . Just ride on .
  17. When I look a the motor I think it looks like someone has taken a giant hacksaw and cut a slice off a Merlin engine ! Nice bike .

    Cb500 ticking

If the whole clutch is trashed ....https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB-500-F-2013-2015-CLUTCH/273218412127?hash=item3f9d161e5f:g:N-MAAOSwvDpa~Uqy

    Cb500 ticking

AND...if you stick a bit of wood under the back wheel and put the bike on the side stand you can usually strip a clutch without draining the oil .

    Cb500 ticking

A small exhaust leak at the head can make a ticking noise .
  22. And read it
  23. Here we go again , new user, single post about a lexmoto / YBR etc . Vague running problem , no response . I'm coming round to Speedy's point of view . Why can't people just get stuck in and fettle their motorbike. What about the idea of taking something apart to find out how it works and putting it back together again.
  24. Oh , ok, I see it now . So that's not the fork seal , its something internal . Sorry.
  25. That's the upper bush which is usually teflon coated copper . If its still there then the lower bush must have been so worn that it has passed right through it . What should happen is when you free the damper rod you yank on the fork and the lower bush hits the upper bush which drives the fork seal out all in one go . If you are replacing everything, you can now prize the seal up and out and mangle the bush by curling it inwards until it comes free.
