  1. Did you see my link to one on eBay, its the only one . Have you checked CMC parts ?
  2. If you are really determined and you have a Dremel you could drill both halves with a fine drill and insert a steel pin .
  3. Well now I'm more convinced than ever that it has snapped off . This kind of plastic is very strong but when it does break it breaks cleanly.https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBF-1000-CBF1000-2006-2010-Right-throttle-switch-assembly/undefined
  4. If it hasn't snapped how come its come off then ? I think the white bit has snapped and if it has I doubt that any glue would be able to make a strong enough joint on such a small area of contact .that kind of plastic is near impossible to glue anyway. Best buy a new one.
  5. Mate these people are stealing from you ! I've just seen an oil tank on eBay for £15 ! £120 for a rec reg ? The one on my ER5 cost me £13.95 and there's no way you should be paying £40 for a battery . If you can afford it good luck to you but if you can't, you're being robbed .
  6. I wouldn't worry about it , in theory there's no metal to metal contact , just contact between the piston and the seal so a little discolouration makes no odds . If you do want to polish it use 2500 grit paper dipped in a bit of light oil . If the surface of the piston is a bit ropey you can get a pattern replacement kit .
  7. Surely one of them is the overflow from the coolant expansion tank and one of them could be the drain from the air box which allows condensation to escape . That's what they are on both of my bikes anyway. No need to worry about brake or clutch fluid escaping, they are sealed systems. If there's a third one it will from the fuel cap overflow . It's there in case you overfill or slosh petrol around when filling up , it goes through the tank and out of the bottom so that fuel is channeled safely away from the hot engine.

    Carb Chaos

I have just learnt something new. Thanks. New set ordered and on the way. I never even heard of JIS until now. I bet you wish yours came apart as easily as mine ! if you look very carefully you will see that the screws are already dipped in copper slip just in case they have to come apart again. Gloat gloat. You can also see the little piece of guitar string ( high E ) that I used to dislodge the tiny blockage in a pilot jet that was causing me so much grief. See my recent posts in "What did you do to your bike today"

    Carb Chaos

Really? I was thinking of pushing the boat out and investing a few grand in a new one to use only once. Fantastic suggestion, and is exactly what I'll do. The JIS drivers are on the way and there's a toolstation up the road from me, so will do exactly that if our own little warehouse hasn't got any. As I say , Tool station only do a limited range of lengths in their metric SS Allen bolt range so you cannot do , for example, a clutch cover . Nonetheless they are useful for replacing all the short bolts that hold things to the frame etc. I believe they do M4 bolts that could be used on carb tops or float bowls . I'm sure that's where I got mine from .By the way if you do go to TS , their carb cleaner and brake cleaner is well worth grabbing a few cans of , its so cheap you can afford to use it for all kinds of cleaning jobs .

    Carb Chaos

I have just learnt something new. Thanks. New set ordered and on the way. I never even heard of JIS until now. Japanese Industrial Standard in fact . I must admit I mistakenly call everything Phillips . On all my bikes I have always tried to replace absolutely every screw and bolt with an Allen head . It's worth having a look at what Toolstation have to offer but they don't do a full range of lengths .

    Carb Chaos

I'm pretty sure they do have drains but despite being handed left and right two of the screws appear to face inwards judging by the pics I've seen online.
  12. It's not written on the bike is it ? Somewhere near the oil filler ? Many bikes including both of mine have this feature .
  13. Brilliant answer , thanks for that . Seems like manufacturers are deliberately trying to stop owners learning the craft of motorcycle maintenance then. So even if you were to perform all service tasks you would still not be able to reset this annoying warning light unless you had access to diagnostic technology. You can tell I've never been able to afford a new bike ! Wouldn't want one anyway if this is the nonsense you have to put up with. I've just done a full service on my 97 ER5 and enjoyed every minute of it
  14. Without knowing this particular carburetor but having worked on many other carburetors I would say that the screw on the the side is probably the idle setting that simply raises or lowers the slide height. The mixture screw or Pilot Air Screw will usually be located underneath and to the rear of the carb . They are usually up a little tunnel but are sometimes blanked off to comply with U.S. anti tampering laws . A Pilot Air Screw usually has a recommended setting and is only influential of slow running . It does not influence high speed running because the carb will on the main jet by then . It you are running a standard exhaust and filter then the Pilot Air screw is best left at the factory setting that can be found in the manufactures' workshop manual which doesn't help I know because its a re branded Chinese motorbike.
  15. I still don't get it , its a 125cc motorbike, so unless the engine is covered in all kinds of sensors ,how is this data collected ? I just can't see the point of a general engine warning light if you can't tell what it is warning you about . Apart from oil pressure and temperature what else could be monitored and why ?
  16. Thanks for the reply , now I'm even more curious. I'll have to look into this myself. Sorry that none of this solves your issue .
  17. Just out of curiosity, what does this light actually warn you about ? In other words , what imminent engine malfunction(s) does it draw your attention to ? My bike has an oil pressure warning light and a high temperature light so what use would a general engine warning light be ? As I say , just curious.

    FORTY TWO !
  19. Hi Tim, if you're saying that when you swapped the coils over, you starting getting a spark on plugs 2/3, then I would suggest that you have just proved that the fault lies with one of the coils. When you swapped them over, did you verify that you were still getting a spark on plugs 1/4 ? If you didn't, it might be a good time to try ?????? Yeah, that's how I read it as well , surely this proves that it IS the coil ? Also when a coil fails it can appear to be ok again when it is cold and fail again as soon as the engine heats up .
  20. I made a clutch push rod out of the grill from an old cooker for an MZ TS 125 , probably better than the original !
  21. Until you post some photos its going to de hard to help you out. Attachments , add files , select from album , wait for them to load , submit .
  22. Welcome to the forum. Fuel nut ? Pictures would be helpful. Why not replace the orange triangle thing with a standard air filter ?
  23. Try a new coil , plenty of Chinese cheapies on eBay. In fact before you even do that chop a quarter inch off the end of the HT lead and re attach the plug cap . I have a hunch its a weak or non existent spark .

    XJ900S

Maybe he just thinks you're the top man for the job. But yeah, polarity on coils don't make no neverminds. I've certainly put them on both ways and it didn't make a jot of difference. Have a look at where/how your coils fit. My ZXR for example has one straight spade and one angled spade per set of coil wires because it wouldn't fit if they were both straight. Kind words but in this instance I know as much as the next bloke . Whenever I've removed coils in the past I've always written the wire colour on the coil . I'm inclined to agree that it doesn't matter which way round the wires go.

    XJ900S

Ok but why ask ME specifically ? As I said I do not own a Yamaha XJ 900 so I can't nip out to the garage and have a look plus I'd have to take the tank off if I did . May I suggest you join a Yamaha owners forum in the hope that someone there is prepared to help out in this matter. The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't matter which way round the wires go but opinions vary concerning the polarity of coils . Sorry, hope you get it sorted soon .
