  1. I was actually going to say Halfords as well but I changed it to any known brand to avoid a chorus of disagreement, I see that many agree after all so Halfords it is then . As also mentioned , use the best oil available even if it is a Chinese 125 . If you don't then the engine could wear out and then everyone will say that you should have bought Japanese etc etc. I quite like the argument that basically goes like this . If you believe that your Chinese bike is shit you will treat it like shit and as a result it will perform like shit and fail like shit and everyone will say I told you so . Treat it well and it will perform well . Having said that , I have seen some truly horrifying Chinese bikes but that was nearly 20 years ago and I believe things have improved a lot since then .
  2. Any known brand semi synthetic 10/40 BIKE OIL will be fine . Doesn't matter what the bike is , why scrimp on oil ?
  3. One way of doing it is to take the pads out then put it back on the bike and just pump away until every piston is touching the disk .
  4. Have you got all the mineralisation out of the grooves ? I use a bamboo kebab skewer as a scraper , less chance of damage . I do use Red Rubber Grease but it is very sticky, have you tried installing the seals using brake fluid instead ? Maybe this will allow them to seat more evenly . Once they are roughly seated , try running a finger round and round inside the cylinder to even out any tension . Most factory manuals state that only brake fluid should be used for seal installation so if you do it "by the book" ....
  5. Here's something to inspire you.https://m.louis.eu/rund-ums-motorrad/bikespecials/yamaha-xv-125-virago
  6. And they are only £1 at the moment ! I'll bet that if you went to buy one in W H Smiths on the motorway you would have to pay the full £8.99 marked price.
  7. Nor me for that matter , how does a carb split ? Let's have a pic just out of curiosity. Also I must admit that I had never heard of an RX125 , I had no idea that Honda had put a CG engine in anything other than a CG . Obviously this is where the Chinese got the idea from !
  8. Loads on eBay , might as well buy a new one . Ok its Chinese but what isn't these days. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARBURETTOR-CARBURETOR-CARB-HONDA-CG125-XL100-XL125-XR125-CB125-MIKUNI/322543238212?hash=item4b19133c44:g:nu8AAOSwn-tZEfG~
  9. I do use a phone with G Maps , AA Route finder and Track my Trip etc. but sometimes I just can't get on with the small screen size especially if I am out and about and zooming out to try to see the bigger picture . I also have problems with bright sunlight on the screen . So sometimes I find that an old fashioned Road Atlas is easier to use. What I do is buy a big cheap one from The Works discount bookshop . Last year I made a map tube from a piece of plastic drainpipe, I put it in my seat mounted roll bag so that all I had to do was open one end and slide the rolled up Road Atlas in and out . Works for me on the big trips but would be quite useless trying to navigate around London for example.
  10. Have a look at a map before you set out .
  11. A very happy Birthday Stu
  12. Yep , unfortunately it is at high speed and high gears that clutch slip often first presents itself . Not pulling away hard in low gears as you might expect.
  13. Too right ! I make sure I have mine within easy reach before I even loosen the bolts on any cylinder head cover . It only takes one locating dowel to drop down the cam chain tunnel for things to go wrong .
  14. I always use Blu Tac on the end of a suitable stick to tackle situations like this . A very powerful torch is an advantage too .
  15. Probably just one of the bullet connectors that link the indicator to the rest of the loom .
  16. Great ! Would you say that it now has more power ?
  17. What lack of power? Don't recall OP mentioning that....apart from "doesn't seem to have much power". Has anybody given it a good thrash up the (private) road? I would bet valve clearances or piston slap. Anyway, Honda single ain't gonna be much hassle to strip & fix. Haynes time, I'm afraid...... Forgive me but the phrase " doesn't seem to have much power " indicates to me a lack of power.
  18. Swap the bulbs to see if the good bulb works in the front and vice versa, maybe its a duff bulb , can you see if the filament is broken ? By the way its a good thing it flashes faster if one bulb is gone because the indicator warning light on the dash also flashes faster so you know that other road users can't see you indicating. Could be a life saver .

  20. Forget YouTube, people on it don't necessarily know what they are talking about and unfortunately you are not in a position to decide who's right or wrong. By far the best thing to do is buy a Haynes manual, and please don't take this the wrong way,READ it . If you get round to telling Megawatt whereabouts you live he may offer to visit you to sort it out . https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-XL-125-RC-1982-1984-0124-CC-Haynes-Workshop-Manual/360754808850?hash=item53fea98812:g:wVcAAOSwyTFaiD0s
  21. I had a listen with headphones and I think I'll take a guess at a worn out overhead camshaft bearing . This would explain the rattle and the lack of power. It probably runs in plain bearings so a good engineer might be able to turn down the shaft and insert some bushes. Usually in these cases both the steel shaft and the plain bearing will be damaged . Only a guess though.
  22. See my old post entitled Scotland no Motorways in the Touring section ( I think )
  23. Yep , the A9 is just grim . Go Loch Lomond, Loch Ness, then Ullapool, Lochinver etc. Or even Fort William, Mallaig , Skye, Kyle of Lochalsh then Wester Ross Coastal trail. West is best the East is urban by comparison. For the North of England you can go from Kendal to Carlisle taking in the Lake district and you can get from Carlisle to Glasgow on the old Road that still runs beside the M74 without seeing another vehicle for miles.https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=1006907#p1006907
  24. Shim washers go under the jet needle circlip so that you can fine tune the needle position by increments that are in-between the grooves on the needles .
  25. I've only ever had hazard lights on one bike , an old Z750 I think , never used them , it's not like you're ever going to block the road and most people only seem to use them to nip to the cash point when there might be Traffic Wardens about . No idea why .
