  1. First reaction , air leaks . Before you go pulling the carbs off there's one possibility . Have a look to see if any of the blanking plugs that cover the nozzles that you use to attach vacuum gauges have come off . There are usually three of them with the fourth carb activating the fuel tap .
  2. Got up , had a shave , removed the Oil Filter , had another shave . Managed to crush the filter and break the wrench at the same time .
  3. Would DIY wet blasting with a Karcher work? ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sand-Blaster-Wet-Blasting-Washer-Kit-for-Karcher-K2-K7-High-Pressure-Water-Gun/193623787487?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item2d14e087df:g:vOIAAOSwM6VfNjnt&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACYBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickkfKe2vUidqHRg3XM2X2xOVGvQIfSNb9TfUwn%252B8Esty1cCPz04mJRtn89dkqVE%252Fi7vmppKHlpxAsr9%252B5%252FIxvdX6gX4H%252BU4FDC7DgY%252FgjtjccLXoppnKdNmDx825aimOrPk8IL3jGoveBMKAlkx2hlm8ZE2rRaZBrybxqbXyG3tjuYOVEtBR2Jbv%252FaqS1IZZHM6xNMfLR3ZD50VuUhfFG0wvx8RfBQ2MSBG4gMwDzuZ8xWK4XlQNWUloyZLyPWedBYVPFG%252FyHFjCQ%252B6x1DdSK0LjgqNntXoVwZGaW1nVmnA4ZLq%252Bdnb50VWM8ZYYlevwyi176lo%252BZfD0Sr4kXRLtcswSqPXd4CvA3ADGohHpCoS2FFuUVs%252FP122weLna7Z%252BloUQOFSx58sNJxWxT9EEut3EoKa3ln%252BbeWo5rWQK5%252FCbOpH25BhoeBWoCY8DFSz7CvdBljBs04k2j5xKQ02tmETGaFIBAqNFNUbYMzvmKIxsoF5hDiuyM45fzQBW%252FKJUdG6M8%252BL2C87Owa%252FHzNBeLigX%252FC%252BHASyyBsz21%252Ba5CYJJZnRmHdqYvk7q3O%252B4KPiOaG%252B3z%252FJ%252BpVlcIrtv4POvOuvOqrl62ZfTEt%252B%252Br3eJYGTZwIy9WRqJwu6FEz6dwbQXvUE6lHVy4n0JfBBSA9zEAoHnf1aNQwiWHheTGI0kgLflNn%252Bd8R2EXFpY%252B2%252F%252Fr5r4F2GP5YY%252BUOg06s%252B1ZEXPbNqL40yWVc4tjB2Z%252FPGVpDxw%252FkE9LrFQa%252F%252F%252FRHTCNpvUe5wz%7Ccksum%3A1936237874879a0e1a8d71f64508a8a5a413b07187fa%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524 Where's the fun in that ?
  4. Loads of Hein Gericke gear on eBay . This stuff is really well made .
  5. My Ducati is the same - just thought someone had changed the front when it got new tyres - maybe not then I would have thought the discs are more likely to get in the way on the front .
  6. Definitely consider second hand particularly if the description says " Worn once " I would be more inclined to use Gumtree for this . I got my Daytona Road Star Gortex boots which retail at £260 for £80 and they were absolutely mint condition . My best find was an as new pair of Biker's Paradise Warrior leather jeans for £20 from British Heart Foundation charity shop .
  7. Get a cheapo replacement coil off eBay and try that . Just a hunch , but if a bike conks out after 15 minutes it's quite likely to be the coil . EDIT ..... I've had a look and they want silly money for a Superlight coil but other Keeway coils are dirt cheap . A coil on a Chinese 125 is just a coil as far as I can see .
  8. Whenever I'm in doubt as to what something does I always go to the CMSL parts diagrams . It's a carb heater . Part 14 . I'm sure the bike will function perfectly well without it . My ER5 heats the carbs by passing warm coolant through the carbs but I just looped the system . We don't live in Alaska .
  9. So you're not planning this for next summer then? If I had a swinging arm and possibly some piston rings ( If required ) I could do this in under two weeks . All I've got to do is take the rust off the frame and paint it , scrub and paint the engine and fit some new bars and grips . I haven't looked in detail at the forks yet but I suspect new seals might be in order . Most of the components taken off the bike have already been inspected , cleaned and painted where necessary .I've just acquired a full set of plastics and a tank so that cuts out all the painting and prep . Final assembly would take less than a day . So if I didn't have to go to work , eat and sleep I'd be riding it by now .
  10. Its your fault that I bought it! .. After seeing you tackle that I thought I would be brave and give it a try. This just happened to be the nearest one to me that was for sale. And it's your fault I just bought this ! I want a shiny blue one now .
  11. Couldn't let that pass . I'll hopefully get half my money back when I sell my existing tank and bodywork .
  12. Oops , now I've gone and done it . I'm going to have to up my game a bit to match the standard of this bodywork .
  13. Just ask . I rebuilt one a couple of years ago and I'm rebuilding another one at the moment . I've posted a video of the engine "rattle" on the ER5UK facebook page(I can't get it to load on here) .. I'd value your opinion on what may be the cause. As I said on the ER5 FB group , the best thing to do is pop the valve cover off and have a good look . The hassle with the ER is that you have to drain and remove part of the cooling system first and sometimes it takes a lot of persuasion to pull the pipes out of the head . You obviously have to remove the tank but the remote fuel tap can also be tricky . On your early model the frame is narrower than mine so removing the valve cover is fiddly too but at least you shouldn't have the clean air system to remove . ( Possibly ) Don't let all this put you off . I'm happy to help if you get stuck .
  14. Could I recommend a manual Cam Chain Tensioner . I'll take all the recommendations I can get! .. I know absolutely nothing about ER5's. Just ask . I rebuilt one a couple of years ago and I'm rebuilding another one at the moment .
  15. Could I recommend a manual Cam Chain Tensioner .
  16. That's cheating ! That bike is mint . I paid £300 for this thing .
  17. Well they are obviously not in Coventry because nobody has drawn a cock on them . If they were , they would have probably have been requesitioned by homeless people to store their megre possessions .
  18. I'm ok using Rattle Cans but I can't seem to find a suitable Clear Coat that is petrol resistant . i got mine from halfords I'm not impressed by the reviews . https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-petrol-resistant-lacquer-300ml-768697.html
  19. Engine out . I thought I might have had a fight on my hands given the amount of salt induced corrosion on the bike but all the bolts gave in easily . The Harley bike lift came in very handy . I wish I'd had one of those for the last engine swap . So now it's just a case of having a good tidy up before I start on the rust . I'll be using a drill so I'm open to suggestions as to the best attachments to use . Wire brush , flap wheel or both ?
  20. For goodness sake . Is it possible to incorporate an algorithm into this forum that blocks the use of the word Lexmoto ?
  21. C'mon bob it's easy.. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-petrol-resistant-lacquer-300ml-768697.html Also, just because I'm posting, I wouldn't bother taking the barrels off. It picks up well from idle, the rattles go away, you don't seem to be choking on smoke.. There can't be much wrong with that! Have you read the reviews in that link ? Bloody awful stuff by most accounts .
  22. I'm ok using Rattle Cans but I can't seem to find a suitable Clear Coat that is petrol resistant .
  23. That's the best explanation in a nutshell . The Driving Test is as rigorous as ever so the decline in standards must be linked to attitude .
  24. That's actually a fantastic idea. thanks dude I would be very surprised if Lexmoto had bothered to redesign the cylinder head for EFI so I'll bet one of these bolts straight on . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172946341431
