  1. So what has actually happened here ? Is this the encroachment of climate change or did the people just say f**k it and move to the cities when industrialization came along ? Dosen't look like you could grow or graze anything there in the first place .
  2. Ouch ! £22 is a bit steep .
  3. Just a little mock up to see what it looks like . Ignor the shock obviously . I probably ought to have done the Swinging Arm in black like the last one to be honest but it's done now . There's even less of it on view once the Under Tray and Footpeg Hangers are on . When you do stuff like this it make you realise just how little there is to a a basic motorbike . Hard to see why people get in such a pickle over doing routine maintenance sometimes .
  4. I might just give that a look in . http://www.sywellclassic.co.uk/high-flyers/
  5. Just buy a new battery when you're ready to ride the bike . Starting it up all the time won't do it any good .
  6. So I got another Swinging Arm with a bit more metal left in it and ground all the rust and flakey paint off and then gave it the Scotch Pad treatment . I brush painted all the underneath and inside bits with Smoothrite from a tin and while it was still tacky I spray painted the more cosmetic top and side bits . I've put it inside the frame because Bob the cat looks like he might knock it over for a laugh .
  7. Welcome back . You're from before my time .
  8. Not come across this before but at least I'm not the only Sportster rider on here ! Let's have some pictures please . I wonder whether it had that wretched filth that is sold as tire sealant in it at some point . You could have a look on eBay for a new wheel or , if you haven't already done so , you could join Sportster Sickness FB page and check out the For Sale and Wanted section . In fact if you put your query on there with some photos you might get a good response .

    Hello

    Hello and welcome . Here's a picture .
  10. Crikey !
  11. Have a look through the kitchen cupboards and see if you have any Swartz herbs and spices . I seem to recall that the plastic containers make an excellent fork bush driver provided the diameter is right . Next time you do this job measure carefully to make sure the bush is actually the right one . If the other one is seated though there's probably no need . I just wouldn't want you bashing away when it's already fully seated .
  12. Ok so it's a feature film but I think they captured the spirit of the thing .
  13. Thank you gentlemen .
  14. Tested wet or dry ?
  15. Can you utilise the old fork seal to help tap it into place ?
  16. Starting from Coventry I went Redditch , Bromsgrove , Kidderminster then veered off north to the unimaginatively titled Food Stop at Bridgnorth . Lots of bikes outside but I couldn't be arsed queuing for a cup of tea. Onwards to Ludlow via the northern side of Clee Hill , up to Craven Arms and then west to Newtown via the Vale of Kerry ( Ceri ) which skirts the southern end of the Long Mynd .From Newtown to Machynlleth and then a diversion into Borth for some very good Fish and Chips on the beach . Into Aberystwyth for petrol , onto the A44 then on a whim I cut across to Devil's Bridge and took the narrow mountain road through Cwmrystwyth to Rhayader . With the sun getting low at my back I came home in perfect riding conditions via Leominster , Bromyard , Worcester and Stratford upon Avon . A lovely day out in beautiful weather on some of my favourite roads . I did keep a lookout for the intrepid Smallfrown but I think he's gone back up north now .
  17. It's because the template that they cut the soles with wears out over time and gets smaller .
  18. That's the frame painted . I used a combination of Hammerite Smoothrite sprayed and brushed . My aim was to give it a lasting rust proof coating rather than a perfect finish . Very little of the frame is on view anyway .

    Err

Yes but the sparky bit is in perfect condition . Running a bit lean by the look of it actually .

    Newbie

    Welcome .
  21. All your insurer is seeing is a scooter in London . Personally I'm not a fan of either myself .
  22. I just buy it off eBay , its called Flexoid Hi fastbob, what thickness flexoid did you use for your gaskets? I'm sorry , I don't know . I bought a selection pack and just used the thickness that felt right .

This is the best thread that's been on here in ages ! Exactly the spirit of adventure that I was aiming to recapture with my recent trips to Scotland on my old ER5 . F**k your BMW Adventure bikes ! This is the adventure . Bungee some gear on anything with two wheels and just go . Brilliant ! By the way , I beat you to the phone box . Ten minutes after this photo was taken I tackled the Devil's Staircase and burned out my clutch . I still limped all the way back to Coventry though. https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=64618
  24. Thanks fastbob! .. I was hoping it would have gone to the sump(fingers crossed). I'm taking off the starter motor and I have to undo the chain guide screws. I don't have the correct size driver, mine are too big or too small so I need to buy one. I know the ones . Why do they need to come off ? The cog just slips back onto the splines as far as I can remember .
  25. No you won't have to do a strip down . It will have gone straight down into the sump which is removable . I wouldn't rotate the engine though just in case it's lodged near the crankshaft sprocket . Only problem is , you've got to invert the engine to get the sump off and then it's anybody's guess where it will move to . You can definitely chuck that rocker cover away and use the blanked off one . I've already done that on mine . Re the screws ,what screws ? Mine are all bolts which I will replace with Allen Bolts anyway .
