  1. I've been cycling in Scotland in October and the weather was scorching . As an added bonus the lack of light pollution meant that the stars were spectacular at night .
  2. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Moffat , Crawford or Abington and you need somewhere peaceful to camp for free just PM me . In fact if you need any first hand information about camping in Scotland particularly the North West don't hesitate to ask .

  4. By the way , don't be tempted to spray Skin So Soft on your tent , bags or riding gear . It's a thin wax and it will set with a white appearance in low temperatures .
  5. Eesh. Any tips? If it's windy you won't even know they are there so I always try to avoid sheltered places like inland Glens . I try to stay on the coast or on high ground . Make sure you have a Midge Net , long sleeved tops , gloves and socks that you can tuck your trousers into . Avon Skin so Soft is my Midge Repellent of choice and I use Mosquito Coils strategically placed upwind of my tent .

  8. Hello and welcome .
  9. A question or two , why the van ? How did the broken bolt render the bike unrideable ? And why do you think a perfectly healthy looking bolt without a hint of corrosion should break so readily ? Just curious .
  10. Hello and welcome . Stop chucking money at it and do some basic inspection and maintenance . The first thing to do is remove and sandpaper BOTH ends of your battery leads particularly the black Earth Lead where it bolts to the engine . You can test your starter solenoid by sticking 12 volts through it and you can bypass it by sticking a spanner across the big wires and by doing so you will determine whether the starter motor is working . Don't go near the carb at this stage if the bike runs . EDIT : I've just written this without reading the whole thread . Sorry folks !
  11. Oh FFS ! Really ?
  12. Have you seen this Swamp Thing that I've taken on ?
  13. I recommend that you join the ER5 Facebook group .
  14. All very clever but based entirely on Slavery . are you saying that Romans were like the British??? No .
  15. what have the Romans ever done for us?????? Romans did absolutely nothing for anybody. Other than Aqueducts, Paved roads, Salaries and currency, war strategies, wine, roman baths, innovative construction methods terrain surveying, straight line roads (I know, not on top 5 in bikers list) flag signal for communication (still used by navy) cooked food, food conservation by salt, waterwheel, advertising and trademark, plumbing and sanitation, Towns (large ones) and cities, Roman architecture, Julian calendar (the one we use nowadays) http://www.history-for-kids.com/romans-did.html Other than that. Romans did absolutely nothing for us... All very clever but based entirely on Slavery .
  16. i have seen a 96 model for sale for £ 650 in good condition but i have heard that they are on the heavy side and the gearboxes are like they came out of early tractors so i think i will continue my search for something lighter, what do you think of the er5 weight wise Bob i have read that they are a bit heavier than the cb5 Like riding a 125 .
  17. Am I right in thinking that an NTV 650 is actually a naked version of the NT650V or Deauville ?
  18. Toolstation do cheap bags of SS Allen Bolts but only up to 30 mm .
  19. I've no idea why you asked the question . Have you been offered one or found one in a shed or something ? If you are after a mid range utility bike most people will have already guessed what I will say . Get an ER5 ! There are decent ones going for as little as £ 600 - £800 at the moment .
  20. I quite like the look of them but if I were to take one on as a project it would have to be stupidly cheap .Even then it could turn into a money pit .

  22. Ha ! Half a mile or less from where I bought my ER5 the other week .
  23. But is it good or bad ?
  24. They are offering a 530 conversion . So long as you are changing the sprockets as well , it's fine . Slightly stronger too .
  25. I'd give that a go if it's not raining .
