No garage, so I mainly just check to make sure it hasn't been stolen like the last one!

Bike jeans -why?
Liveware Problem replied to Beans's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I feel I'm going against the grain here, I don't like mine at all. Perhaps I bought the wrong brand (Bullit)? They were marketed as 'slim fit' but they're about the bulkiest things imaginable. Obviously with the lining they will be bulkier than normal jeans, but these just seem so thick they are as warm as my textiles, but somehow with less freedom of movement! A size up would be too big and of course bulkier still.. Just me then!? Or should I try another brand? -
I have a revolut card, great idea. However I ran in to an issue when I went to France in the Summer, the first couple of transfers from my main account to the revolut account went fine, but then they stopped allowing me to transfer money in. I presume it was my bank (Halifax) blocking the transfer, it wouldn't work using Google pay either.

Me, I guess, for nearly being taken out in the same way as last time I posted on this thread, though at a different junction. 2 lanes, no. 1 is left only, No. 2 is left and straight on. So I attempt to turn left from lane 2 and nearly get driven over by the guy carrying straight on from the left-turn-only lane.. Should have known better

I think that's what ends up in your pants when someone pulls out of a junction directly in front of you..

There are still many drivers out there looking out for their fellow motorists, travelling on the A40 in Wales cars were flashing their lights and sure enough there was a detection van a mile or two further along, ensuring no one was [strikeout]enjoying themselves[/strikeout] speeding recklessly. Hopefully they caught no one, I carried on flashing my lights at oncoming cars for a few miles after, spread the good karma

But are you taking them in and out or do you just leave them in? It seems a waste to get lenses just for driving. -
I was intrigued by that, right up until I saw the price

Thing is I only need to wear glasses for riding/driving, so it's not really economical to get contacts at the moment. -

Finally a sensible suggestion I will try the tape first, if that isn't enough then maybe a new helmet. Slowlycatchymonkey Good shout, but then I'd have to get a set of prescription sunglasses. If all else fails I may try that -
I commute West - East in the morning, and in autumn and spring really struggle with the low sun. Myvhelmer has an internal sun visor but it's not enough, I have had to ride one handed with the other hand shielding my eyes along a dual carriageway on several occasions! Can anyone recommend anything, I was thinking an adventure-style helmet with a sun visor?

Separate steering lock to the ignition!? That's just bad design, no wonder you forgot. .... They all used to be like that..... Just one key for ignition and steering lock? Luxury! When I were a lad etc. etc. etc....... Ah my mistake, it's all part of the charm of a retro bike then

Sums up tailgating mindset perfectly - https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/tailgating-driver-astonished-to-discover-further-car-just-30-yards-ahead-20150908101781

Very true. Which is why there are things called track days. For those who want to go faster than the speed limits without endangering others. Fair enough. I don't believe in haring around at crazy speeds on public roads, but I believe there are times when it's ok to use a bit more of the performance available to travel quite quickly.. obviously individual judgement will be required but increasingly that's not something out government believes we are capable of.

I couldn't agree more, if you're speeding in residential areas and especially past schools that's reckless and selfish. But it's a bit different to doing, say 85 mph on a motorway, or enjoying opening it up on a nice quiet A road. Not everyone buys a motorcycle just to 'bimble', if that's your style fine, but it isn't mine.

I've never been fined. However I think if you NEVER speed you are probably in a very small minority of road users.

That's probably one of the justifications for average speed cameras. Personally, I don't have much of a problem with them on commuter routes where steady flow = me getting home on time. I'll not be happy if they creep on to the fun roads mind... I'd also quite like a self driving car for my commute - 1/2 hour extra doze on the way to work? Yes please! Agreed about the justification for average speed cameras. But once the technology is proven they won't just stop with motorways, or commuting. I reckon in another generation people will regard those who enjoy driving the way we regard people that still refuse to wear seatbelts, I.e. dinosaurs! After all, its just so dangerous and selfish..
-
I don't think cameras will be an issue for too much longer. Once self-driving cars become mainstream, there will be no need because naturally a robot will be unable to exceed the speed limit. Soon after that motorbikes will be banned, as obviously you can't have people riding on the same roads as automated vehicles, recipe for disaster. So people who enjoy driving will be limited to track days, if we're lucky.
-
What's annoying is that cameras are supposed to be visible, and these new digital cameras seem to have been designed to be less so. Otherwise how can you explain hiding them further away from the road (there's one close to me that is now literally impossible to see until you've passed it) and removing the reflective coating from the back? I just can't see that will make roads safer, to have people constantly scanning for cameras/looking at their speedo.
-
I've noticed in the past few months a lot of the speed cameras that look like this: Are being replaced with these: Does anyone know why? 2 key differences I noted: The new ones are not reflective, so much harder to see at night. They have moved them so they are further away from the road, hidden behind other street furniture/trees etc. so they are harder to spot (this is the case with all the ones I've seen) Interesting how there is money for upgrading cameras but not resurfacing the roads

Swapping my F700GS for something lighter?
Liveware Problem replied to Arwen's topic in Motorbike Chat
Ah right, KTM 690 or the new 790? Although I have a feeling they might be quite high.
