  1. Be very careful what you believe on the web, I was looking for info on my BMW car, found a copy from a trusted BMW forum I read. Later found another copy on there, same format and the prop bolts which I was interested in was 20Nm different. I'd urge you to find a helpful Honda dealer.
  2. @fastbob lol , you do have to be selective on what you buy. I've bought a Clarke engine crane ,engine build stand and tool boxes from there, all cheap for what they are but work fine. Also bought a 1/2 inch socket set over 20 years ago and that is really good quality. What i wouldnt buy are any spanners, screwdrivers, sockets or bits, their quality are you say are poop.
  3. The only worthwhile thing to visit in Cov city centre is Machinemart
  4. https://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/event-directory/museum-live/ Next weekend, been a couple of times before, great day out for free. Note the £15 parking for cars, bit steep I thought but if you are getting into the museum for nowt ,it balances out I guess.
  5. Heard on the news today, the wholesale price of gas is falling due to over supply? https://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/europe-gas-prices-mostly-fall-on-possible-over-supply/
  6. Bit of 2 stroke representation
  7. Petrol gone back up by 2p around here
  8. Vyvyan went to the south pole??
  9. Wasn't me honest, I know better than trying to outdrag a bike. If you want a litre bike just go for it, if its an itch you need to scratch. Had my R1 for 6 years, seen three figures a handful of times and maybe 130mph on a track, so did I really need a 150hp, 175mph machine? Probably not, but I just love the easy power delivery, pulls strong from 3000rpm even in top gear.
  10. Had a free day today, Mrs has gone with the two daughters on a spa day, so it was all about me today. Did a bit of work on the M3 this morning, then donned my leathers on and fired up the R1. Took a ride down the A5 to the Super Sausage cafe just south of Towcester. More like super queue for a cuppa, about 20mins, was going to have a bacon batch, but I clocked the ticket number was about 25 later than what they were calling out so opted for a Kit Kat instead. Usual mix of bikes there, must have been Victory Hammer club day out, must have been 15 of them there. Finished the brew and set off back towards Silverstone and ended up passing over the old GCR line at Helmdon so decided to trace it back to Rugby. First pic is from Helmdon station bridge and looking back towards the Banbury Lane. Helmdon viaduct in the distance. Went down one road from Sulgrave that was so badly rutted, had grass growing in the middle and sheep grazing on the verge, don't think they were too impressed with the R1. Stopped at a bridge between Sulgrave and Eydon, eerily quiet. Made my way to Woodford Halse, after a bit of riding around found the old station entrance and twin bridges. They had a large engine repair shop there back in the day. Back onto familiar territory of the A361 at Byfield, stopped at Charwelton, there used to be a station here, now the reception centre for the Catesby tunnel aero test track. Back towards Daventry for a while then left to Southam and crossed the GCR near Flecknoe and headed back into the boonies. Got to a gated road near Wolfhamptcote, found the line again for another bridge pic. Next bit of road/farm track was interesting on a sportsbike, only about a mile fortunately and passed two blokes walking, they must have thought WTF. Back onto the A45 at Braunston, crossed the track again at Willoughby twice before finally hitting Rugby at the Onley lane cutting. No bridge parapets remaining there, just an embankment. Crossed the line again for the final time on the Ashlawn road then home. About 75 miles altogether, bike ran a treat and had great fun.

  11. I don't like using other computers at work, the mouse has different settings so they either shoot off the screen or don't move fast enough. Also people have different screen settings on our stock control software , why can't they set it up the same as mine?? Nothing is in the same place as you can customise the various screens. I also hate using laptops with the silly finger pad thingy. Was in a meeting the other day and I had to edit from a word document from someone elses laptop that was displayed on a wall screen for all to see, I made a pigs ear out of trying to just do basic functions like highlighting and changing the font colour.
  12. Got through my first tank of fuel since the plugs and filter. Same route to work, travelling the same time of day, same garage I filled up at last time and.... the fuel consumption hasn't changed.
  13. I ride my R1 or silverwing to work, more often the scoot and see the same bikes going the other way most days. There was a guy on a small KTM that didn't used to nod if i was on the scooter but in the end I must have worn him down and now he does. Maybe he twigged I was the same person as I wear the same helmet on both. There is even a lad on an L plated moped that nods when I'm on either bike.
  14. Got our first energy payment of £66 from the government today. Thanks a lot Liz, now if you can restore the £5k my pension has lost since you and KK took office.
  15. Got my monies worth out of them, should be changed every 8000 miles
  16. Replaced the plugs and air filter on the Silverwing, last changed about 22k miles ago when I bought it. Plugs are hidden under a small cover in front of the seat. Filter is under the RH side panel, filter cover itself held on by 12 screws, Honda didn't want that to fall off. Quite a considerable difference in paper density between old and new, you can see daylight easily through the new. Took it for a run after and it did seem to pick up better and a slight hesitation on first opening the throttle has gone.
  17. My 2001 R1 does this occasionally, a bit of key wriggling works but the signs are there it may cease to work fully one day. I do spray wd40 in it but can't really tell if its improved as it doesn't do it all the time. Bikes done 42000 miles. By contrast, my 52 year old Hondas ignition works like new. Don't make 'em like they use to...
  18. We had 7 sealed units earlier this year including one half of a patio door, the others were just average sized bedroom windows. I got a quote from one company who couldn't replace two because they couldn't reach over a porch or lean to roof. I asked can't you just replace them from the inside but no that wasn't possible. Waste of time. Got another contact, he quoted £1100 supply and fitted so we went for that. Did a great job and I asked him how he wanted to be paid, he said he would take £1000 cash. Result, spent the saved £100 on the M3.
  19. Is it because Bulb is in special administration and not making a profit?
  20. Just got an e-mail from Bulb saying our payments are going down, from £170 to £145. We are £420 in credit so enough of a buffer if they've got their sums wrong.
  21. Glad you have found the source of the problem. Not sure I would straighten valves, the steel will be fatigued from the initial bend and further from being bent back. Add in the heat when running and the valves will be weakened.
  22. How do you plan to pressurise the cylinder with the cam chain disconnected? Spinning it over on the starter with the chain lòose sounds a risky plan.
  23. When the rod broke, has the unconnected piston clipped the valves? Have you access to a leakdown tester, you will be able to determine where the air is escaping from.
  24. Do a wet compression test, squirt a bit of oil in the cylinder and repeat the comp test, if the results rise it points to piston ring and bore wear. Won't help with a hole in the piston or if there is a big chunk out the piston crown. Check for top end problems; valve clearances, burnt valves, incorrect cam timing (cam chain jumped), bent valves (you haven't dropped something into the intake while carbs off?), head gasket. Was it ok the last time you ran it?
  25. The tester did also mention a lip on the rear disc and he did repeat the brake test several times so clearly its a bit borderline in his eyes. Even though its probably going to be a ball ache I think I'll get them changed before next year. Front will be easy as that's been off already, will just need a bit more determination on the rear.
