  1. Replaced the front pads again on the Silverwing, think I'm on my 4th set in 19000 miles
  2. Our council have charged £40 for the green bin for the last 5 years or so, I kicked off about it the first year and Mrs said she would pay as she does most of the gardening.
  3. Our current standing charge is £15 per month. To only use £48 worth of energy a month I'd have to switch the heating off and live in the dark. We were paying Bulb £105 per month, this went up last October to £157 and in April will be £205.
  4. That's like asking I want to break the speed limit, what's the chances of me being caught? 99 times out of 100 you might get away with it, but the 100th time you might cross paths with a copper or camera van and get nicked. Depends on where you go maybe aswell, if you attend bike meeting places there is often a heavier Police presence checking for number plates, exhausts etc you might get caught. If you just use it to go to work you would be pretty unlucky to get followed and stopped. If you are that adamant you want it, fit it and suck it up if you get done. Or buy a bike pre 1980 and fit it legally.
  5. It is a great car to drive albeit expensive to own, offset slightly by the fact they are increasing in value. Believe you have an M, seen a pic of it next to your bike?
  6. Watched this over the weekend, very good bit like Long way round without the celebs. What surprised me was they wore full textile jackets , trousers, heavy boots and helmets but no gloves except when they were high up in the mountains.
  7. This is Arais' take on it. https://www.whyarai.co.uk/news/index/view/item/400000-uk-motorcycles-wearing-helmets-that-need-replacing/#:~:text=At Arai%2C we place a,this is purely age related. Never knew about the date code on the d ring, checked mine out ;O06 ,June 2015 so its time is almost up according to their standards. I will replace it with another Arai when I'm ready but am comfortable with it for another year or so.
  8. Yes i went through the glider building phase too, 1metre wingspan Keilkraft model. There used to be a model shop in Rugby called Moore's, upstairs was like a treasure trove to a 10 year old, sadly it closed some years ago. We used to fly the gliders on a field near Preston Capes, large open field about a mile long and slight gradient. I know the pain of losing a model, I spent weeks building a Focke-wulf 190 and smashed it to bits on its maiden flight.
  9. Well done on trying to improve your fitness, keeping the motivation going is the next hurdle. I took up running 18 months ago during lockdown just for something to do and general fitness, now do 5km parkrun every Saturday and wish I'd started it sooner. Also bought a cheap rowing machine to use when im not running during the week. I dropped about 5kgs fairly quickly and managed to keep it off since then.
  10. This is my sad looking control line plane, spare engine and can of 40 year old fuel, (still smells potent) First built it in the late 70s, revived it in 1993 when one of its many crashes took the wings off, I then rebuilt them from scratch and flew again. Since then it's just kicked around in the garage.
  11. My 1975 GT380 has a gear indicator, still works after 47 years. Must have seemed quite high tech back then.
  12. There doesn't appear to any distance limit on how far you can drive for an MOT test centre, but taking the Mick too much might not be a good idea if you get pulled over by a grumpy cop. You need proof of the test appointment aswell. Not sure what would happen if there was an accident on your way to your usual MOT centre that you use, the insurance company would surely say you should have gone to one near the base? Are you in the AA or anything? If so, pull a fuse out or something so it won't start, then get it recovered to your local garage for "repair" and MOT.
  13. Yes I get why its done, to maintain standards and reassure people what they are buying is safe, my point was they police the sale of biking gear but do not police what you wear when riding, aslong as you wear a helmet you can do as you please.
  14. But legally you can ride a bike in a donkey jacket, pair of normal jeans and a pair of wellys if you wanted to
  15. Found just the thing for the Honda battery terminal in the garage, a silicone rubber sealing cap we use at work.
  16. Justbgot? You sure they are working ok?? Lol
  17. Cheers guys, yes was thinking along the same lines. We have allsorts of plastic and rubber sealing caps at work, sure I can find something that works.
  18. Fitted a new gel battery to the Honda, not quite oem but its out of sight. Need to devise an insulator for the positive terminal, bit too close to the frame for my liking. Not run it since September last year and it started 3rd kick. Pic of its hidey hole under my bench.
  19. Never heard of them. Some of the reviews on trustpilot are pretty scathing.
  20. I've been wearing glasses for 12 years or so, started with reading glasses, now varifocals. Been through 3 pairs of varifocals, the set I've now got are just right. The previous pair I had were so annoying, they kept slipping down my nose even just with normal use. I put it down to the nose bridge bit (If that's what its called) was moulded into the frame and not adjustable, the set i have now are adjustable to fit nicely. Make sure they fit snuggly behind your ears to again limit the slipping. My old set were terrible when riding my R1, head down, arse up position, they would slide down my nose incessantly. Need to be able to put on easily with your helmet on, obvious but try it out. The frames need to be slim so they don't block your peripheral vision. Got all mine from Specsavers, this set are mid range varifocal quality with the anti glare coating, not convinced that makes any difference though. Got two pairs, 2nd set are varifocal sunglasses for £170.
  21. Replaced the broken indicator on the RGV that the grandson knocked off a while ago. Fired it up, filled the garden up with 2 stroke smoke and rode it 10feet back into the garage.
  22. Dug my book out the loft. On another page it tells you how to upgrade your car with fitting a screen washer or indicators.
  23. In my AA book of the car 1970 edition, it shows installing a radiator blind on an Austin 1100.
  24. These rules have been introduced by the same people who think smart motorways are a good idea. After 38 deaths attributed to them , they are reviewing them. How many pedestrians are going to be knocked down before this stupid rule is changed.
