  1. WTF! And there was me thinking pad replacement was probably one of the easiest jobs you can do yourself
  2. This photo was taken on the back road to the Creg, the other one to Sulby, through Druidale is great, some good off road routes down that way as well...
  3. I would personally go for the biggest, baddest chain I could find, locked to an immovable object like a lamp post or ground anchor .... Unfortunately, if thieves want it they'll get it! All you can do is put obstacles in their way to make it less attractive. When I go down to visit my brother in Middlesex, my bike has to stay outside, I lock it, using an Almax chain (which imo is brilliant), locked to a ground anchor, I also use an ABUS disc lock, its the alarmed disc lock, which is great so long as it isn't windy, windy weather seems to cause false alarms. I cover the bike and that's pretty much all I could sensibly do.
  4. Lovely day for a ride out today, mates were working so I was Billy no mates! Decided to stay away from the TT course and enjoy some of the back, country roads. Took in some of the scenery and just chilled out .... Couldn't resist finishing the ride with an ice cream down in Laxey.
  5. Happy Birthday Rich, have a good one ....

    Smug

They're the sort of responses I've come to expect in this house
  7. IMHO Helmets save lives....end off. I had an accident some years ago after colliding with a car that pulled out from a parking space, basically the driver didn't look! My head hit the road with a fair old bang, hard enough to warrant the need for a new helmet. I have no doubt that had I have not been wearing said helmet, I would have suffered an injury more serious than just bumps and bruises. No one will ever convince me that helmets don't save riders from serious or even fatal injury. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that more than 1,700 motorcyclist lives were saved due to helmets in 2015, based on estimates. Research shows that helmets lower the chances of a fatal motorcycle accident by 37 percent and the CDC states that hundreds of lives could have been saved in 2015 had all motorcyclists been wearing helmets. Even when an accident does not result in a fatality, there is a long list of hardships that motorcyclists may have to endure after a collision, from a serious injury to financial problems." 8. Not biker specific but go to a diving equipment retailer and have a look at their gear bags, they do ruck sacks as well, you can get a hell of a lot of gear in them, they can be quite bulky though depending on what you go for.
  9. Off road again today, tracks were really quiet, I seen one other person on a quad, dry as well so the wife didn't make me get changed in the garage
  10. Some local politician is kicking off about it, he reckons it will encourage speeding on the roads all year round....cock! It'll probably go the same way as the plans for racing in Wales, people just don't seem to want motorsport on open roads anymore, if here is anything to go by anyway. The difference with here is that it forms over 100 years of the island heritage, be brave politician to try stopping it....
  11. Beat me to it by three minutes. Looks interesting and took 30 seconds to discover . I had the shortcut to it in my faves but never used it, looks pretty good though
  12. I've never used it but try this https://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/country/united-kingdom I have a tomtom rider and you can set the route to your tastes, not sure if tomtom do a separate app??
  13. Thanks for picking that one up, never even noticed....spell checker is my excuse
  14. One for the road racing fans, this could well be worth a look! https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/news/2020/july/road-racing-set-for-isle-of-wight-debut-in-2021?fbclid=IwAR0Pp2ueilknXCf-tdCJ-B2eitAbGSFs_RwsFCqIBNhWvNyLBhabb8XMSD4

    20mph

All the motorists should start their own petition to get all IOM cyclists limited to 10mph, compulsory wearing of cycle helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads, have to pass some sort of competency test and have liability insurance. All for their safety of course...... Petition was started, but its more about stopping the speed limit changes https://www.change.org/p/isle-of-man-government-all-island-speed-limit?recruiter=289051249&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&recruited_by_id=87e27710-f0ff-11e4-babc-958016cbf76b&share_bandit_exp=skip-23679157-en-GB&utm_content=fht-23679157-en-gb%3A1

All for their safety of course...... I personally believe that should be the case anyway and have a cycling licence Couldn't agree more

    20mph

    Unfortunately yes
  20. Nice way of having fun at under 20 MPH Won’t last long, make the most of it before it’s banned!! You’ve just mirrored the conversation we had when we were out, already got one of the cocks in government complaining about green lane use, they’re intent on turning this island into gods waiting room....it was a good afternoon though, I didn’t drop it today either....bonus

    20mph

You're probably not far wrong Dynax, its all that'll be left soon
  22. Green laning today, haven't been for a while and I'd forgotten just how sore your legs are at the end of the day!! My mate was well ahead of me on his KTM250 Enduro bike but that didn't worry me, where as he has to change his oil a couple of times a month, (at least), I don't, Good old Honda CRF gets me there eventually, Maxxis off road tyres made the world of difference!....All in all, wet muddy day but with a smile on my face from start to finish....

    20mph

So the cyclists over here got their way eventually!! https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/cyclists-call-for-20mph-speed-limit-in-towns-and-villages/ 20mph is to be introduced shortly with a call for restrictive speed limits on all other roads, this could be as low as 40mph. A lot of people think that this is the first nail in the coffin for things such as the TT/FOM, (would I pay the extortionate, rip off prices to come here, to ride my bike around all day in 1st gear! I don't think so) Funnily enough the MHK's that pushed this agenda are cyclists "draw your own conclusion from that one". I thought this may be of interest to anyone planning to come for TT next year, it won't be such a shock when you roll off the boat and find you can't ride faster that 20mph. Thankfully me and my wife are looking at leaving this island within the next couple of years, it certainly isn't what it used to be. https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/20mph-limit-to-be-introduced-on-residential-roads-towns-and-villages/?fbclid=IwAR1grEnQ85i8QHPdbw4UoAgMSfb8QPdEwpbFc7JJXwOAmTNtfiDlx8iDlSs
  24. Good luck with the IAM, I did it a few years ago, I was lucky to have a really knowledgeable and experienced rider as my observer, former Police motorcyclist. Don't be tempted to try and rush things to the test, listen to what your observer says, act on the feedback and take your lead from him. I suppose the best advice would be, try and ride normally and relax, sometimes hard when you know you've got someone critiquing your every move.
