The Stainless Steel ones include the seal - which Triumph will relieve you of £48 for a set of 10, although Sprint Manufacturing will only charge you £18. Unfortunately Sprint don’t seem to do the bolts. It’s not just corrosion that’s the issue with the bolts, it’s also the ham fisted attempts of a previous owner to remove them - by the looks of them they used a chisel, lump hammer. Mole grips and the light touch of an axe murderer.

Anyone tried a home plating kit?

Wow £10 each for stainless!! I think a search of some local Cad platers is in order!?

Many corroded fixings can be replaced with stainless steel replacements - but what about ‘ specials ‘ ? The Cam cover bolts on the Trophy have slightly corroded heads and although still serviceable are unsightly - what solutions are available to get them shiny and protected from further corrosion? I can’t see a plater being prepared to do 10 volts as a batch without paying through the nose for it. Has anyone any other ideas?

No, that’s paint protection film to stop stone chips and scratches, it’s obvious when you look at how well it’s been cared for, they’ll get it back on the resale value, at least an extra magic bean or two.

Don’t you wonder why that is ?? Not coz it’s a common problem and they’re all bolloxed is it ..... No I don't think so , if they are described as in good working order then I am fully protected by eBay,s returns policy anyway. Might not come to that, it could just be a bent selector fork . And failing that I've still got a good gearbox in my other engine . If I can sort this issue out I've got all winter to carry on working on this spare engine. I fancy a rebore and new pistons and maybe new valve springs . Meanwhile the bike is still rideable , its just got a lot of vibration due to the very slack primary chain . Why did Kawasaki favour primary chains anyway ? Everything is close enough together to be gear driven so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me . ( you not off to this rally then ? ) Did consider going to the rally but step son is just out of hospital following a major op, Missus is a nervous wreck and I need to be on hand in case he needs her or needs a lift anywhere - was in A&E with him for 5 hours last Sunday as his catheter got blocked and started bleeding

I will not watch them again. I did it once and then my next ride out was a bloody nightmare, with all the images still in my mind I was a nervous wreck imagining all sorts of disastors befalling me. Nope, never again. I once foolishly clicked on to a link showing the aftermath of a fatality - had nightmares for weeks.

I’ve had the cam cover of the Trophy powder coated. I’m now using a sharpening stone to remove the coating on the fins and the text. ( see pic where I have done the Triumph text ) The trouble I’ve got is that the sharpening stone has become clogged up - does anyone know how to clean the ally swarf out of the stone ? I’ve tried a brass wire brush. Also having exposed the ally can I lacquer the complete cover to prevent it corroding? Thanks.

I would use brake fluid in order to avoid the risk of contamination . Thanks, but I haven’t got brake fluid to hand, but do have a pot of silicone grease hence the question. It would only be a smear to fit the slave cylinder seal.

Just a quick one ( I hope ) Can I use silicone grease to reassemble my Triumph Trophy clutch master cylinder? I have heard that you should not use an oil based lubricant but don’t know if Silicone grease falls into this category. Thanks
