  1. That's what I thought last year but my crossing of northern France quickly changed my mind. The terrain isn't really that interesting unless you're a fan of WW1 battlefields but more to the point there are loads of small villages with constantly changing speed limits. Took me 2 hours to cover 100 km. As I had another 300 to go I switched to the Autoroutes. Came back via Luxembourg and Belgium for a more interesting bimble.
  2. I use amazon when there's either no alternative or if its for something like a kindle book where there's very little alternative especially when I'm stuck on a ship somewhere.
  3. What's going to be interesting is how long petrol and diesel will continue to be available for. Will it end being black market under the counter stuff? Mind boggles really.
  4. My wife paid for my grandsons to fo this introduction to driving thing which is for kids of 11 years or older provided they are tall enough. Obviously it's not on roads but the thing was this will quite possibly be the only time they drive geared cars. Assuming this BS ban on new ICE in 2030 actually happens they'll be stuck with automatic electric cars.
  5. Wouldn't recommend an Aldi helmet.
  6. I arrive in Nigeria at midnight. A pimple on the arse of humanity. Not my favourite place in the world.
  7. Don't buy a shed load of stuff in advance, you might find you never need it. Other than the obvious protective gear buy something when you think you are actually going to use it.
  8. Due to the design of my bike I rarely use the back brake and when doing a hill start I almost always use the front brake unless there's some other factor in play. Do have my left foot down though.
  9. Well done you. Now enjoy finding and then riding. With luck you've a couple of months before winter hits. I ride year round but that's not to everyone's taste.
  10. My wife bought both our kids a cheap car when they passed their tests. Son got a pink Fiat 600 (very cheap but he's still traumatised by it). Daughter had a hideous Citroën AX. That went on to be a first car for two other kids and was last heard of carrying sheep on a Weardale farm. Insurance cost more than the cars and that was almost 20 years ago.
  11. I'm sure they don't care at all.
  12. Certainly different.
  13. Guess who does really crap in pub quizzes on subject of music and films?
  14. I believe that among many other factors one of the things driving insurance upwards is an increasing number of scallywags driving / riding without any insurance meaning the rest of us get to pay for them too.
  15. Given the age of the thread the original poster has either given up on bikes altogether or is tearing round the country on a full A licence.
  16. You might say that the small pics in the posts (if you are looking on a phone) are going to look reasonable anyway but even if you expand them they aren't bad. Unless you are a semi pro and trying to get large format photos a phone is fine for pics. Small, convenient and let's face it most pics are purely for personal use and you look at them on a phone.
  17. There's a few companies around that will take the oem seat and remodel it using gel inserts. Much more comfortable and considerably cheaper than a fully custom seat. I seem to remember Husoi did his own and was very satisfied with the results.
  18. KIM'S are fairly infamous for very hard seats. Never ridden one myself so I don't really know although I do like the bikes.
  19. Looks a lovely day.
  20. Plus Sturgeon and Hamster or whatever he's called. When I think about it, any living politician would qualify.
  21. Have to say I found a gel seat was better than an Airhawk but I think a lot of comfort issues are affected by your actual body - shape, weight, limb length etc. I don't think there's a one size fits all.
  22. My failing memory has just been reminded of that particular song. Didn't know it was Bonnie Tyler who sang it. Being lost in France is often due to an excess of vin rouge.
  23. She sang about Scunthorpe? How very bizarre.
  24. Not unless they are powered by non carbon based unobtainium.
  25. Not being a fan I'm totally flummoxed.
