1. Sounds like you’re over the moon You will be absolutely fine. Just keep the throttle smooth.
2. Happy Birthday Stu. Have a good one.
3. Sorry Ian Frog What had you forgotten? What memory have I jogged? It’s late and my brain is not working on all neurons
4. Get some of this to protect your tank from the magnets. If you use FB then have a look on the Marketplace for a bargain tank bag. You should be abe to pick up an Oxford one for a good price.
5. I've not used the clutch on 2 brand bikes either. No problems. When I was new to biking someone told me about clutchless upshifting and it is one of the best bits of advise I've been given. I always pass this on given the oportunity. The next best bit of advise was to take the slack out of the throttle cable. Both from the same person. Improved my bike control immediately.
6. It doesn't do any damage to the engine, clutch or gearbox.
7. Why?? Did you actually take the time read the OP?
8. You’re welcome. You’ll be a whizz at clutch less gear changing in no time. You can actually change down the gear box without the clutch, but it’s a hell of a lot trickier as the engine is under load. You are more likely to do damage to the box, so leave going down alone. Unless one day you own a bike with a quick shifter. A lot of sports bikes are getting these added as standard nowadays. Maybe it will filter down to all bikes one day? Let us know how you get on.
9. Congratulations on your new bike. I’m not going to give you any advise on bike maintenance as it looks like you’ve been given enough to make your head spin. I noticed you mentioned about your left hand getting a workout on your 125. The bit of advise I want to give is to learn how to change up through the gears without using the clutch. From a stand still. Move off normally and then apply pressure to the gear lever. When it’s time to change to second gear, roll off the throttle enough to take the load off the engine and the gear will snick up. Apply throttle as normal. Rinse and repeat each time you want to move up the box. This saves your hand/arm from a lot of stress especially in town. It will not damage your clutch or gear box. Happy riding.
10. What a shitter Hope your fankle becomes an ankle again soon and everything is fixed up.
11. Stu Ahh. I thought you’d already done one. He was very quick to bite. Obviously missing all the proper roads and greenery.
12. I can’t find the thread Stu I have one of these sat in my shed. (Can’t remember the make though) I used it for quite a while on the VK1, but since getting a GIVI airflow screen I’ve not needed it.
13. I don’t experience it on my VK1 at all......Throttled Well, I do if the dealer puts the play back in. Once I dial the play out it doesn’t happen. I know exactly when the power will be applied.... as soon as I twist it.
14. Have you tried https://www.principalinsurance.co.uk/
15. It sounds like there is too much play in the throttle and you need to take it out. As standard bikes come with 2-3mm play in the throttle. Apparently as a safety feature. I HATE throttle play and have taken it out of every bike I’ve owned. When I take them for service the dealership always put it back in unless I remember to tell them not to! There will be an adjuster under/near the throttle. Have a look in your user manual and it’ll tell you how to adjust. Once you’ve taken the play out turn your bars lock to lock and make sure the revs don’t rise at any point. If they do the cable is too tight. Adjust until revs stay level. Before you do this though you may want to check the cable at the engine to see if your cable has too much slack. Again look in your manual. If you are not sure find a dealer and get it booked in. You shouldn’t be having to ride like this. I hope this helps with your issues and you’ll be able to concentrate 100% on the road and not your gear changes and throttle response.
16. Heads up I received an email from Tom Tom this morning. Not that anyone will be travelling for a while still. ‘LAW IN EFFECT STARTED 27 APRIL 2020 Germany outlaws speed camera alerts The new Road Traffic Regulation in Germany prohibits the use of devices that alert users to the locations of fixed and mobile speed camera locations. We recommend that you disable speed camera alerts before and while driving in Germany.’
17. Welcome in. You don't need to justify yourself to other bikers Nice bike you bought. Enjoy!
18. That’s the same as the exit to our village - Every. Single. Day. Not one driver coming back in ever seems to realise how to turn right. When I’m in the car I just move across to the white line and pop the handbrake on so they have to negotiate their way passed me. Pinheads. Shit like this has been going on for years. No one gets taught to cut junctions like that. It's just the lazy incompetent morons that love to practice it. Only way to stop that is to install a small island there right up to the give way lines. Looks like the junction is wide enough to accomodate one.
19. The best place for advice is are the companies that sell helmets. Contact them and they will be able to advise you. From what I can see online, you are going to struggle, but not I'm not an expert. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/#/27907,3190,0 TEL: 01205 360099 They also have an online contact form if you want to do it that way https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/ TEL: 0800 130 3377 Online form also https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/ Lots of phone number contacts here depending on your location https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/contact-us There are lots more online shops, but if you can't find what you are looking for from these 3 then I doub't there are helmets out there that will fit you other than bespoke. Good luck in your search
20. You're right. You could see it coming. It's been very entertaining watching the FB group implode over the last few weeks. I'm surprised there wasn't a mass brawl on Sunday the way everyone has been carrying on in the group.
21. Willingham Woods. I wasn't there. Not just bikers from this article https://tinyurl.com/yd89ncwv
22. Hi Dion It all depends what you want from a bike. I personally think that you would get fed up with lack of power pretty quickly with anything smaller than a 600cc You have a couple of options from where I’m sitting. You have experience and that never leaves you. You will just be very rusty, so you could find a local school that is recommended and pay for a few refresher lessons until you feel comfortable. Then go and test ride as many bikes as you like. Or go and test ride some bikes straight off the bat. You could start with the smaller bikes and build up as you start to feel more comfortable. Just don’t tell the sales guy you haven’t ridden for a LONG time. I too passed my test in 2006 at the age of 36. I had to stop in 2009 due to health reasons but in 2014 I came back and took a CBR600RR for test ride. As the sales guy handed me the keys he casually asked how long it was since I’d ridden (I told him about my bad back) His face went white as I told him 5 years. The colour only seemed to come back when I arrived back after an hour and a half, handed him the keys and said I’d have it Remember to adjust the clutch biting point on each bike to suit yourself. Good luck in your search.
23. I knew it would be rammed from all the chatter on the FB group so I avoided it like the.......errrmm plague.
