    Hello all

    Hi
  3. Hi, I wouldn't worry too much about the latest and greatest gear - best thing would be to have a look at Sportsbikeshop (there's a click through from the forum) or popping into somewhere like J&S. All the kit they sell will be safety rated, so it sort of depends on what you want to spend, and what kind of riding you'll be doing. Great gear is definitely a plus, but if you're going to be a fair weather rider, the latest goretex Rukka suit is not a must. The key thing (especially with helmets) is to try them on and make sure they fit well. Snug all round. Not painfully tight. And the right shape for your head. I must have tried a dozen before I settled on mine. As regards dropping the bike, it does happen, but it doesn't have to be a big issue if you've got some sort of protection (crash bungs etc.) so it becomes a choice between having something new, shiny and hopefully reliable, or cheap, less to insure, maybe higher maintenance costs. Training varies. I booked CBT then just weekly lessons ad hoc until I could get a test date. YMMV. Have fun and take it a step at a time.
  4. Twice on snow at under 5mph - same journey. (Don't do it kids!) One emergency stop - fork dive coupled with handlebars not straight. Brought it to a a halt then toppled over. One moment of indecision at 2mph as a new rider, didn't have the momentum to make the turn.

  8. The thing that rings alarm bells for me is the fact that they're putting you in for the test before you're ready. A good school shouldn't do that, and they don't usually want to, as lower averages raise eyebrows with the powers that be. Secondly, it doesn't sound like they've made too much effort to get you there. At the end of the day, you're the customer. If you feel something is off, take your business elsewhere. Don't let it put you off, riding is great fun, and so should be the process of learning.
  9. Hi, welcome
  10. This is fascinating stuff @Tinkicker Have an old pocket watch with a broken hand that's also been over wound. Your post is niggling at me to get it fixed
  11. I think 9 plus the bonus ball (highest number). That would complete the group. That's how I've done it, anyway. Hope it's right.

    Hello

    Welcome in
  16. That's a lovely looking thing
  17. I'm attaching extinct birds to an arbitrary line half way up my hallway wall to separate two colours. Going to call it a dodo rail.
  18. Knoydart is Amazing. Took a bunch of young people there last year and we did a 2 day hike from the campsite around all the peaks in a horseshoe in perfect weather. We got the ferry in though.
  19. Happy birthday!
  20. Firstly, don't beat yourself up! Everyone learns differently, and at their own pace. Bicycle seems like a good suggestion, and you can also do taster days with some bike schools, you don't HAVE to go straight to CBT. Also, there's no problem with learning to drive first. Have fun with it, and don't stress

    Hi. Welcome.
  22. Hi The second post today mentioning no gloves. Have a summer pair, a winter pair, and some waterproof over mitts that don't get a lot of use. I did go out without them by accident once, just for a short ride. Have to admit it felt much nicer, but it was like going out without your trousers on, liberating but ultimately far too exposing. Anyway, Spain sounds very nice
  23. Very surprised to hear that.
  24. Happy birthday
