    torque wrench

What they said. If it's a rear spindle nut, it says in the manual " tighten it until you fart" honest !!!

    stiff link

1/ Usually lack of proper cleaning and re-lubing 2/ You can't. You can free it off by slackening the chain as much as possible or removing back wheel. Grip stiff link with mole grips and twist it in both directions a few times. This will temporarily free it off, but it will re-stiffen. 3/ See answer 1/. Don't need a Scottoiler, just clean with paraffin, dry with brake cleaner on a rag and re-lube. Clean every month and lube after every rideout or 200 miles.
  3. If they closed up before, they will close up again. Go for maximum clearance, ie thinnest shims.
  4. Yeah, pix or it didn,t happen!!!
  5. Good post mate. The Eifel is really lovely and some great roads.
  6. Never had a problem myself Chris and been doing it for 30 years. I usually hook the ends into the trailer so that they can,t come out. Tiewraps help.
  7. Don,t need a strap over top mate. Put two or four as high and wide as possible and hook em to trailer as low and wide as possible. Pull front of bike forward and keep it vertical.
  8. The front wheel should drop into a slot or cradle or stop against a solid surface. Hook a ratchet tiedown to each handlebar or bottom yoke, one each side and hook to front of trailer as far apart as possible. Compress front forks a bit ,but not too much. Bike should be vertical, on wheels, not on side or centre stands. Tie down at rear, pulling backwards from rear footpeg brackets.
  9. Normally the sprocket studs are pushed in from the back of the carrier. They have a flat on one side that touches the outside edge of the carrier casting. They have to be pushed fully home from the back to stop them turning.
  10. I could easy fix that for you. :.......:.with a match.

    rear wheel spindle

No problem with scratches on a spacer mate, unless it runs in a dust seal, just emery it smooth.
  12. Cam cover removal should do it Bob. Do you have an angle grinder???
  13. Been working on bikes and cars for 37 years and never used loctite. Tighten bolts properly and there,s no need. If worried about vibration, use a drop of silicone. Seen a lot of snapped bolts and stripped threads caused by loctite.

    New chain

Having a good chain on the bike when you sell it will also be a good selling point. Shows you don't skimp on essentials.
  15. And ?

    Idling way too low?

Normally an idle speed adjuster is part of the throttle cable or a seperate one that you screw into the carb with a flat bladed screwdriver. Both of them lift the throttle slide or open the butterfly slightly. The tickover should be at the lowest revs possible without hunting. Cure the hunting by adjusting the pilot air screw or jet. 800RPM isn't that low.

What Joe said. Don't scratch the chromed tube.

    Mixing tyres

Never had a problem mixing tyres or makes. Usually stickier front to longer lasting rear.
  19. More likely pads stuck to discs, if they,re sintered. Next time you park it, make sure they,re dry?
  20. No mate. Clean with paraffin and dry finish with brake cleaner onto a terry towel and onto the chain until it's clean and bone dry. If you can warm the chain, do so gently and then apply chain lube. Let it set and then spin off and clean any excess in the morning after.
  21. Dunno about white spirit mate, but I know paraffin or kerosene works.

    Stupid Question!

What Bob said. You did good by asking the question.

    Chain wear

Try more chain slack, up to 50mm. Check slack whilst sat on bike as well. Make sure sprockets in good nick. Buy DID chain if possible. Should get 10,000 miles at least. I got 25,000 out of Fireblade chain.
  24. Great, well written write up mate. Can,t wait for next episode.
  25. Ho Jeff, just Pm'd you. Gimme a bell?
