  4. My bike lives outside and gets used all year round in a heavily gritted area ( I am next to priority roads that get gritted regularly). I have found Muck Off endurance lube lasts the longest and stops the chain rusting.
  5. IME, insurance quotes specifically refer to Nextbase dash cams. I suspect that is a picture quality issue. I fitted one to my car, hard wired it myself, which was OK once I had figured out how to remove the A pillar cover. Halfords do a fitting service, I bet buying 5 would attract a hefty discount.

  8. I would suggest get yourself to a shop such as J&S and try stuff on. Sizing is a big issue and for all the recommendations that can be given, you want something that fits.
  9. I think the biggest issue when riding in the wet is the visor fogging up.   10. I agree with get tyres for the wet to boost confidence. I use Metzeller Z6 and fell very confident with them.

    I also think horse riders should have to at least shovel any crap into the side of the road. I also think people who throw up in the street should also have to clean up their mess.

  14. IME the expensive covers that are 100% waterproof and elasticated are hard to put on and trap moisture. They also last about as long as cheap ones. I go through a cover a year and a half and use cheap ones from Aldi and Ghost bikes. The ones with holes to allow a chain to be fitted to the front stop it from blowing away.
  15. My advice is to get to a shop and try stuff on. I find sizing motorcycle clothing is really bad, I can fit gloves and helmets from medium to XL depending on brand. You need to try and see what fits, irrespective of brand. Decide what weather you are going to ride in and by appropriate to that. The cheapest way to waterproof is to buy an overjacket and trousers. Find stuff with CE rated armour and watch for jackets that have the pocket for back armour, but either nothing in them or just sponge padding.
  16. Go to a place like J&S which has a huge range and try them all on. The glove you want is unlikely to exist, so find the best compromise.   17. If everyone had reacted to the appearance of speed cameras by slowing down, so they cost a fortune and made hardly any money, they would have been phased out. But sadly, people kept on speeding, they make a fortune and they are here to stay. They don't bother me as I just potter about on my bike and am not in it for the speed. My car is a 1995 Volvo estate. I am captain slow.
  18. They are perfectly sensible choices. The main issue is, are they listed in the drop down boxes on security when you get an insurance quote? I suspect they are, so you are good to go.
  19. Part of the point of the padding is that it molds itself so over time the helmet fits better. I would give the existing padding some time rather than adding or taking padding out. The exception is that if a helmet is designed for an intercom, there may be removable pads at the ears it is OK to remove. If you don't fit an intercom, that gives you a bit more space at the ears.
  20. I confess to removing some of the foam padding around the cheek to make one helmet more comfortable. The foam was in layers, so I peeled a layer off. That is as much as I would do as anything else I think would properly compromise safety. I think you bought a helmet that does not quite fit your head. Like your backside and hands when riding a bike, pressure starts to hurt after a while and the solution is a rest.
  21. I think that lack of confidence is more about not relaxing, overthinking and being over critical. So long you get around a corner without falling off, hitting the verge or crossing the white line, that was a successful corner taken. It is with practice that nice lines through corners, as advocated by the IAM and advanced driving are consistently achievable. Even then, dirt on the road, a bad camber, a pothole or broken road surface mean that is not always possible nor advisable. Tyre pressure and condition effects cornering. If corners don't feel right check your tyres. It is far more important to be able to see as far around the corner and watch for hazards than it is to go quickly.
  22. Finally a sensible suggestion I will try the tape first, if that isn't enough then maybe a new helmet. @Slowlycatchymonkey Good shout, but then I'd have to get a set of prescription sunglasses. If all else fails I may try that My sensible suggestion is to commute the other way around the world so you go east to west.
  23. As above, but having also commuted like you, a new helmet is the better fix.   24. My suggestion is to get mirror extenders and get them as wide as the panniers. Now you know if gaps are safe to go through or not. It improves rear view as well.
  25. The last time I was at JOG it was clearly work in progress to make it look nicer and more interesting. That was a couple of years ago.
